I used to only play Rohan cavalry, so my Gondor troops were way weaker. So it really did fit the theme when they turned the tide upon arrival. And then the ghosts came...

"Come on!" their child insisted. "Alright. Your grandpa tried to burn me while I was incapacitated." "What a mean grandpa. How could he love uncle Boromir instead of you?" "He what?" Eowyn's eyes widened in disbelief.
That's the only thing I dislike about the Good Campaign - it's so laughably easy even on the Hard difficulty with all those heroes and upgraded armies. Not to mention if you're crafty enough you can get Gandalf to start this map on lvl 9. Word of Power pwns Mordor ._.
In some missions you start off with archers or rangers. Northern Ithilien comes to mind. So its impossible to not control any archer units at all throughout the campaign. Maybe you mean no archer battalions can carry over to another mission?
Played this on medium today and only used elves and Rohan horsemen activated ability took out all the siege catapults and a camp early and was able to avoid all siege towers and just held the gate after losing it until I got army of the dead and finished off their nazguls and mumakill with them and when in process of killing their camp called in Rohan’s army just cause
Well U didn't have cav archer of rohan which was op! Plus when i played I had 2 3 battalion of cav .I would use gandalf and his power while riding horse. I think i killed nazgul . For that ram i remember sacrificing few cav and using gandalf power. For mumikil I always had OP cav archers to took care of them.
I did this mission witchout any ANY loss! Even in hard. How? I defend city from second level, build siege workshop, archery range, many towers and blackshiths. Also market. I needed to kill some units so i used my own trebuchets to kill my units (worthless archers) I build 6 Trebuchets, and rest controll points invests in rangers when archery range reach next level. But i've had MANY powers and micro Gandalf to trap&harass enemy units. My gate was open, when trolls and rams tried to destroy archery range&workshop they die in killzone, grond never close up. XD Well...i'm just armateur in this game XD
Same. I used to make gandalf patrol on the first wall to deal with nazguls and ground. I filled the first wall with trebuchet so no unit could approach to the wall. When rohan arrives, I take them in. And consequently game finishes without any lose, expect a few trebuchets (even in hard level)
This game never gets old :)
It is better that even Total War: Warhammer.

Try on Elven Alliance mod medium diff. it is impossible and Helm's deep as well . That mod makes the game so good and challenging

How can you prevent the maingate from getting destroyed?

Defend from second level. That make really funny killzone when your gate is open for guest from Mordor XD

The entire campaign is on hard. Or hardest, was a long time ago, hardest difficulty anyways.
