Keep doing what you're doing Ryan!!! I'm not a musician, just an old man who loves music, and you have taught me a lot. You have helped me appreciate what I love even more. I hope to say hello when BAND MAID comes to Chicago. Christmas in November!!!!!
I want real reactions every time. No one is going to like every song they listen to. I just watched a vocal coach react to Lovebites, (Thunder Vengeance) and it was so obvious that she didn’t like the music, but she pretended she did.
I also like their thrashier songs more than their power ballads. Edge of the World is an "older" song, from their 2017 debut album Awakening from Abyss. It's one of two tracks on Awakening that is written entirely by an external writer. Mao, in this case. Thanks for getting back to Lovebites, Ryan! I'm looking forward to any new material from them when they get a new bassist sorted out.
I think I'd have to ignore considerable input via the band's "arrangement" on the song "Edge of the World" to assert, "written entirely by an external writer. Mao" considering Mao is a keyboardist. The extent of guitar-work/techniques used are all from Midori & Miyako. I doubt Mao told Haruna what to play, or when. Asami wrote the lyrics and I'd expect made contribution to the vocal-melody. I'd have to hear Mao's 'demo' to believe that he brought them anything close to what we hear. Just all 'in my opinion' of course. I consider LOVEBITES 'arrangements' a significant aspect of what 'sets them apart' from other bands that have excellent musicians, and their lyrical themes take them from 'a great band' to 'a meaningful experience'. Mao is a wonderful contributor, supporting all others in their music, except Miyako. Interestingly, no lyrics from Mao or Miyako, but lots of awesome music!
I can listen to both of these songs just for Haruna’s playing. In Edge of the World she switches from style to style to style flawlessly and is immediately in the pocket in each one. No matter what a lot of drummers will say about themselves that it’s easy they are spilling nonsense. The double pedal work in it is absolutely impressive. In Set The World On Fire she is an absolute machine (meant in a good way)!
Set The World On Fire is an absolutely stunning song. Unfortunately its not live but they do play the english version live. Bravehearted is also the only song written by Haruna and its one of Lovebites best songs

Ryan, I have watched your various reactions concerning Lovebites for far to long without subscribing. My fault. Just fixed that. You are good and informative. Thanks.
'scream for me' was my favorite for the first 2 years just because of the insane guitar solos. then 'when destinies align' took over the top spot for about 1 or 2 years - once again the solos. but 'set the world on fire' has now eclipsed both of them. it just has everything you've ever wanted in a metal song and then some
Edge of the world is such a amazing song, so many different parts, very dynamic, not your typical song structure, the progression of the song from the slow meloncholic part to the progressively harder and faster and more uplifting part all while matching the meaning of the lyrics is such good songwritiing. That Miyako solo was great, she is in her field and is very confortable whenever she does these melodic solos unlike the shreddy ones which Midori seems more confortable on (although both are great at both of the styles considering they harmonize most of their stuff). I didn't really see what made you think she wasn't as good here, I personally think the 2020 live performance is probably the best she has been. Set the world on fire is just a great heavy metal song with the crazy solos where they threw all existing guitar shredding techniques at once lol
I agree, don't really understand what you said about Miyako on Edge of the World. Btw, I can't help but wondering how metal her baby can be when you know he's been "rocked" so hard during the Set The World On Fire performance!
Really, it was the vibrato. A players vibrato is kind of a tell. During that solo it was irregular and jerky. Hey, maybe it was played exactly how she wanted it and in an idiot! It's happened before LOL!
You can compare her solo with this 2019 rendition of the song for example : th-cam.com/video/gxobplSaw9k/w-d-xo.html I like it more in the 2020 one, the song is speaking of a broken soul on the edge at that point in the track and she tries to express the pain with the guitar. It feels better in 2020 version to me. But yeah, I can't even play a guitar so I guess Ryan sees more things in there than me xD
@@Hadesillo You may be on something, because her vibrato here is definitly different than her usual vibrato on songs like "Break the wall" (slow part). Maybe she tried to emulate a little the "japanese vibrato" that many singers use (more traditional than modern) and that sound a bit weird or uncomfortable at first to western ears? I may be overinterprating though.
Yeah, Set the World on Fire performance and song itself better. I thought I had my fave LB songs all chosen but this could surge right past em. Holy F***, that was good!
Eternal dilemma: singing in your own langage for maximum authenticity and ease of expression, or singing in english to try to reach foreign audiences, but with more "stereotypical" lyrics and of course accent. Every non-native english speaker singer has to face that dilemma. One thing to consider is that it is often easier to sing in english for many singers, because expressing your emotions in your own langage is often uncomfortable, so singing it in a different langage is more "neutral" if you see what I mean. I'd really like to hear Asami in japanese.
@@leemohhin4352 I remember that interview. And I totally understand their wish to reach a worldwide audience, with the kind of music they play and their influences. As a non native english speaker, it probably bother me less, even if I really learned to appreciate the "music" of the japanese language - but I follow many other japanese bands singing (mostly) in japanese, so I don't miss it.
I personally think Miyako's solo in Edge of the world is the best solo of all of the solos. It is really well done. It's not shred solo and it was never meant to be one.
@@markoviitanen2671 Yes and dripping with feel, pinched harmonic bit she does gives me goosebumps, dont understand Ryans comment at all. Just cos she has a stoic look doesnt mean she isnt feeling it.
@@RobinC63 That is how I seen it too. I understood him to say, he liked the solo but oh my what would it be like in a year from now. What is above awesome? Deeply, bone chilling awesome. 🐺
Lovebites is good. Really good. If I was to rate them on various aspects of writing, playing and performing, it might be something like: Composition: 7 - A throwback to 70's & 80's performance power metal. Very predictable with repeating 12-bar phrasing. Nothing fresh or spine-chilling, however it's fun with proven structures and melodies. But coming from these girls, it's more exciting than the typical long hair renaissance heavy metal we've all hear a million times. You have to give them lots of credit for singing in English. Because of their genre, that's a smart move. I'd like to see Band-Maid pull off more big tunes in English. Execution: 8 - Very nice and comfortable. The drum licks, the dual guitar work by Midori and Miyako... the shredding flash solos... I feel like I've heard it all before. The bass basically plays the root notes. I keep thinking, what would MISA play on their songs. But their songs don't really need anything that complex. It's all pretty straight forward and that's okay for their music. But who knows what their new bass player will bring in terms of writing, playing and vocals?? Performance: 7 - Although they move around, the girls pretty much stand and deliver. And that's fine with me. I don't need or even want a bunch of David Lee Roth's bouncing all over the place. They have class and grace which goes beautifully with their large soundscape, genre and stage vibe. I'm so happy there are groups like Lovebites. They may be the best female metal band going today. I know this might be a tough rating for Lovebites fans, but it's just my opinion.
Why... the F***.... do people compare these bands?? They are NOTHING alike. oh, and calling BAND-MAID music simplistic is hilarious. Yes, older stuff was, but their self written stuff is anything but simplistic.
@@L.A55 Luckily in this world, except for places like China, Russia, North Korea, and the Middle East, we can all listen to whatever we want. I've noticed little things here and there where the various members of LB make errors, but I've never found them to be distracting. When I met the late Kevin DuBrow of Quiet Riot, my friend I was with asked him why QR hadn't released a live album at that point. He said it was because live albums are bullshit, that most bands listen to them before release, find the live errors, and make new recordings to cover up their mistakes, and that QR didn't want to put out a "fake" product. That made an impact on me because I didn't know much about the music industry (and still don't) so any times I find what I feel is an error, I gain a little more respect for the band for leaving it in - even though it may be the record label's choice to do that. Anyway, thanks for giving these two songs a chance even though you said you weren't a big fan going in.
Weird how we hear things differently. For me, this (Edge of the World) is Miyako's best solo so far. Gets me in the feels every time. Also FYI, their best thrash songs are The Hammer of Wrath and Break The Wall, if you're interested.
Edge of the World is perhaps one of the favorites by Lovebites. I don't like the singers voice but it's just my personal preference. She has an incredible voice. But Lovebites to me reminds too much of Nightwish in vocal / music style and I'm not a big fan of Nightwish.

Really, it was the vibrato. A players vibrato is kind of a tell. During that solo it was irregular and jerky. Hey, maybe it was played exactly how she wanted it and in an idiot! It's happened before LOL!
@@RyanMear exactly how she wanted it and in an idiot ??🤷🏼
You can compare her solo with this 2019 rendition of the song for example : th-cam.com/video/gxobplSaw9k/w-d-xo.html
I like it more in the 2020 one, the song is speaking of a broken soul on the edge at that point in the track and she tries to express the pain with the guitar.
During this show Miyako was 4/5 months pregnant!
Yeah, Set the World on Fire performance and song itself better. I thought I had my fave LB songs all chosen but this could surge right past em. Holy F***, that was good!
Ryan can i send you my wolf pic to show for your next Lovebites reaction that i did for Brandy Dynamite?
Hi Mr. Maidiac ! 😁
@@brandydynamite5877 Hi Brandy. How's Haruna?🙂
Sure.....omigoah, I forgot to show my Miyako picks!
@@RyanMear You have to show them then, cos i love your freehand art :)
@@RyanMear Hi Ryan i sent it to your Hotmail. I didn't know if i should've sent it to your Gmail :)

From soft ballads to heavy thrash - Lovebites does it all and always play with greatness. Never a bad song by them, they are all bangers.
It's why I'll never get rid of the Lovebites EP version of Bravehearted. That version sounds way better than the album version.
Well said
Miyako ones said in her interview with three Japanese guy that if they were to sing in Japanese she would not have join Lovebites.
@@cepho8349 lol seething
Sorry u didnt like Miyako's 1 solo . To me it was gut wrenching and beside Swan Song my fave.
I don’t think he said he didn’t like it. He just said if she played it now, with the improvement in her expressiveness, it would be better.
@@RobinC63 That is how I seen it too. I understood him to say, he liked the solo but oh my what would it be like in a year from now. What is above awesome? Deeply, bone chilling awesome. 🐺
👍 cool
As a metal/rock drummer.. Haruna can marry me and I'll be a houseband...
Miyako music genius 😎😎😎
Both songs are smashing. Shows what they are musically capable of!
Next song. BREAK THE WALL. More thrashy.

Lovebites is good. Really good. If I was to rate them on various aspects of writing, playing and performing, it might be something like:
Composition: 7 - A throwback to 70's & 80's performance power metal.
Glad you don't rate bands.. we'd be listening to American idol level music forever
Why... the F***.... do people compare these bands?? They are NOTHING alike. oh, and calling BAND-MAID music simplistic is hilarious. Yes, older stuff was, but their self written stuff is anything but simplistic.
@@RyanMear I shouldn't have left my original comment.🤦♂️ It never goes well.
@@L.A55 Luckily in this world, except for places like China, Russia, North Korea, and the Middle East, we can all listen to whatever we want. No reactor, music critic or YT commenter will ever get in the way of that, Big Eratt. And btw -- some super talented kids got their big break on Idol. You don't have to be afraid of shows or anything else that help kids succeed.
@@GaryHolloway-810lol You were very diplomatic, on that comment. And you were right. We can like, love or even hate them both. Although, anyone who hates Band-Maid or Lovebites gotta be messed up. 🤪
Lovebites are simply the best band out there.
Replacement for Miho - Best fit, Rio from Marys Blood .... ? :)
MIHO! MIHO! MIHO! 🤘🐺 🔥 🔥🔥
you kinda look like james mcavoy, anyway i like your reactions, keep up the good job
I'll take it! Thank you!
If i didn't play guitar, I wouldn"t have noticed a damn thing
Miyako golden touch 💔
They really did set the metal world on fire. For me, Nightwish and Lovebites are two best metal bands in the world these days - no matter the genre.
Back soon ! 🤘🐺🤘
Yes, and I cant wait
Weird how we hear things differently. For me, this (Edge of the World) is Miyako's best solo so far. Gets me in the feels every time.
Also FYI, their best thrash songs are The Hammer of Wrath and Break The Wall, if you're interested.
I was thinking the same thing. I was like, What?
Today, breaking news from Band Maid. Hope it's not April Fools.
Haruna !!
HAIL THE MAIDENS QUEENS OF HEAVY METAL 👑🐺🤘🏻LOVEBITES
Miyako's solo not good enough? What a shame to hear that.
日本では旧車でも500万円以上はザラだけどな。K車には絶対当てはまらんがなw。
Edge of the World is perhaps one of the favorites by Lovebites. I don't like the singers voice but it's just my personal preference. She has an incredible voice. But Lovebites to me reminds too much of Nightwish in vocal / music style and I'm not a big fan of Nightwish.
Reaction with BAND MAID T-shirt Yes we know you are a huge fan of BAND MAID it is so obvious .........your objectivity But the truth is this 👑LOVEBITES👑
Dude, I made about 16 videos that day... was just happened to be wearing the shirt.
