i dont know why 3 people dislike a video good like that !!! i love it brother thanks a lot for sharing it !!! have a great week brother i wish one day we can meet its other !!!
Kostas Annikas Deftereos At a guess , it’s because it should have a wedge in the end. The constant taping will break the glue down in time so the head will come probably come off. I have a few bowls here and it’s what I was going to make with them. Nice looking but I think it should been wedged but that’s my opinion only 👍🏻
Steve I suspect the thumbs down are the same people that thumbs down my videos all the time regardless of what I do. As for a wedge, yes maybe but I dont see this being used that much and when carving your not tapping very hard so its unlikely to be an issue, at least in my opinion
Steve! Maybe you are right ! But I think those people just need to tell what is the mistake of the video as you done ! And not let a dislike without explanation !
Hi Mr clothier... Nice making your own tools isn't it...I've made various metalworking clamps n stuff myself in the past... Nice to see your young assistant getting involved as well...start em off young.. Oh, and you were quite correct in turning the handle to fit the recess: Always make a tenon to suit a mortice...wherever you can...👍
Great choice with the finish Thomas :) Superb Mallet John :) That will last a few lifetimes. I would love to see what you do with the chisels and how you find them to work with. Blessings ॐ
Great job John that bowling ball timber is beautiful! I thought the dog was in the shop with you till you called out your assistant 😂 great to have a bit of help 👍
Thanks Alan. The dog only ever comes in to steal tissues and sanding discs now. Gone are the days he would curl up and sleep there. I think 1 too many catches had scared him lol
With a 45mm tenon and Titebond I reckon it'll stand up to carving. And if not? Well you can remake it (with a hole all the way through and a wedge if you feel like it) or make another.
Great job John, looks really nice. I'm surprised you went for the extra screws, with such a dense wood like that the worm screw should hold really well. For me I think I would have turned a cap to go on the top to finish it off, but nice to see someone do different to what I think with the epoxy shavings. Well done, many happy carving hours to come. Oh and looks like you got a good assistant there to keep you on the straight and narrow.
Thanks Paul. The screws were mainly for stability. If you see in the video I drilled in through a plastic section for the wormscrew. This was really brittle and didn't hold overly well.
In the first few seconds before you finished your sentence I thought to my self, Bloody Hell those chisels look a bit short for the lathe! 🤣 Great idea turning an old grass bowling ball. I wonder if old ten pin bowls are made from wood? If so they must be a few things you can make out of them. Anyway, another great vidio John, especially with your assistant assisting 😉🙂👍
Thanks Gordon. Lol you joke but when I first tried woodturning I did try regular chisels!! Soon realised how dangerous it was!! Yes I expect you can. They are just wood after all.
There is no doubt you can turn wood but why put that decoration under the head of the mallet? All it will do is give you blisters. The handle needs to be shorter and smooth. Use a mallet for a while and you will see why.
Nice mallet and savvy helper!
Thanks buddy
A very sturdy mallet there pal, some great advice from your helper. 👊👊👊
Thanks buddy
really nice mallet thanks for sharing
Thanks Jim

Take care
Mike

Thanks for the comment. You may prove to be right but so far so good
You young guys all make the same mistake. That glue you used is NOT impact resistant. Nice job on up cycling an old bowling ball.
I didn't know there was such a thing lol thanks for letting me know and thanks even more for calling me young!! 😁
