This was the very 1st of the Famous Fives adventures, there were over 20. A great series. The Secret Seven are also a good read/listen. It's great to find them all again.
As someone who immigrated to th U.S. as an infant, my grandmother in the U.K. used to send me "famous five" books..... they lined up with the Hardy boys, and Alfred Hitchcock and the three investigators that I usually read nicely.
I always enjoy these kinds of stories but sometimes I don't enjoy when the actual trouble starts with the bad guyes because it ruins my experience of day dreaming about the adventures of the island and how nice it is. Sometimes I just don't like to get into the thriller danger part
Introduce them to the" five find-outers and dog " audiobooks I'm sure they would love fatty, betts and the gang oh! And good old " CLEAR OWFFF" Mr Goon 😄 i still choose one each night to fall asleep too at age 40 😊 they're brilliantly done and there's just something comfortable and relaxing about them that makes listening to them at bedtime the perfect time especially parts when they might be scoping something out at night time in a storm or in the rain 🌧 comforting I suppose. I have recently listened to the three audiobooks read by Kate Winslet here on TH-cam - The Enchanted Wood,The Magic Faraway Tree and The Folk Of The Faraway Tree - it brought back memories of my childhood and one of my favourite books which i was reading long after I had been nagged into reading more mature books.Shame though some names have been altered - Dick,Fanny and Dame Slap are now Rick,Franny and Dame Snap...irritating and unnecessary I thought.
The Comic Strip piss take Five Go Mad In Dorset (Robbie Coltrane,Jennifer Saunders,Dawn French,) was on TV's first day of Channel 4 in 1982 - absolutely spot on ...followed by Five go mad on Mescalin.Oh Julian You are a brick,bags of crisps and lashings of ginger beer...even certain scenes copied illustrations from the books.50 % PISS TAKE 50% ADMIRATION.

Enid Blyton waa entertaining and exciting for childhood reading, but she put some absurd ideas in her books. Saying a 10, 11 and 12yo were old enough to holiday without their parents is ridiculous.

Brilliant! I love Enid Blyton but I think that it is horribly outdated. But, when you consider the time it was written I can forgive

It is astonishing... I just need to listen to the music in the beginning, and immediately, I feel a lot calmer, no matter what.

I used to listen to this with my niece and nephew, but there is to many adds now, not worth the annoyance.
