in my own opinion, this was Carcass at their best. still dual vocals, fast paced splatter core riffage, out of no where grindcore blast beats, and orchestrated parts that showed a glimpse of what they were about to become on the next album but staying true to the earlier sound. i will always bust out old carcass for years to come. BAM!!!
i completely concur with all you said and dont really have anything to add since you summed it up perfectly. I listen to this ep even more than necroticism
Very glad to see this and many other videos that were blocked for over a year finally return to their proper yt space. Tools of the Trade delivers the perfect Carcass audio dose. Respect to Bill, Ken, Michael, Jeff 🎸🥁🤘
At first listening to “Heartwork” I too was disappointed.., however, after giving it a chance and of course learning each song on bass.., gave me a deep appreciation for Heartwork. I now know that the labels have done their worse to make Carcass “mainstream” only to fail. Carcass seems to have the right chemistry of bandmates and visionary propriety to pull off today’s Death Metal and maintain their groove and melodic sound. In short, Heartwork is an intricate and integral part of the first four album masterpieces. Swan song was and will always be their middle finger to the labels’ profit driven BS that tends to end bands’ success. Glad that Bill came back after that drama with the labels got sorted. 🤘🏻
Hell yeah, that's right, this is a fucking good one. One of my favorites, for a looong time now. Carcass kills it. And yes Swansong and Heartwork are awesome too!
@@moshlem666 HAHA when I first heard of carcass in 92 and I was like 12 I went looking for the album and this old metal head dude was like I have it and he busted out Krokus. I was like I dont think this is what I heard about.
To me there last of whatever Grind they had left! Believe you me ,I Was the biggest Carcass Fan too and still am! Nothing beat's there first 3 full length albums and this and The Peel Sessions are there best!
Just got the repress of this with the heartwork EP on the other side. First time it has been repressed. I was tempted for years to buy the original off discogs for like $100. I dont care about original pressings. I actually like special limited repress packages with colored vinyl and posters and lots of bells and whistles. Glad I waited.
Seen them of this tour at the God,s of Grind what a show to say the least! then unfortunately I seen them in "95" During there Heart work Tour what a let down turned into A big disappointment for me as a huge Carcass fan! "87 to "93" Carcass Ruled !
+maurismind why would they? They just dropped a new album of new sounding material. I hate heartwork but don't blame them touring on that material went it first came out
***** well I think they should have tried to have a more balanced set-list, it's not good going from one extreme to another, not all the fans are going to suddenly stop caring about the older material when a new album is released so why should they ignore they back catalogue like that? I'd understand if they played 6 new songs and the rest older songs, that would be a good balance I think
Wow man, that would have been great-the best of times for death and grind heads!!..Not too fund of Heartwork myself-but then its long time Iheard it last. Now they freakin kick ass then. Dig the first material, but this demo Iheared first so thats magic to me
as much as I dont like nu metal it is a valid form/genre and believe it or not this sound was a trend at the time even though carcass were one of the originators, The originators always last the test of time and live on and the same can be said about nu metal no matter how much i myself hate it or you hate it. It was valid and the leaders produced classics within that genre that people still love and identify with and get something out of today. I hate it though, just in case I diddnt make that point clear.
@@childrenoftheabzu I hate it on paper, but sometimes a band can surprise you. Like when I heard Blood Revolt, and marveled at the Eddie Vedder-esque vocals

yup. they lost it on heartwork. this is their peak.

can believe i traded this on vinyl back in like 94. had no idea that they would blow up 20 yrs later and this stuff would be worth as much as gold
This was the last good album before they went to total shit!!!
