  • NYGS is offering for sale this rare Classical-Flamenco hybrid guitar by renowned Australian luthier John Price. It is ideal for a person who enjoys performing Spanish guitar repertory as well as flamenco guitar music. The guitar possesses a focused and powerful sound: the more full-bodied tone of a classical guitar, along with the very responsive action and brilliance of a flamenco guitar. The instrument is equipped with golpe plates surrounding the sound hole.
The guitar is truly in pristine, brand-new condition, having spent over a decade safely in the case! Hard to believe it was built in 2011. It was rarely played - until Penelope recorded this wonderful video.
The guitar was constructed using the “Australian Lattice Bracing” system, which allows for a thin top and arched back, producing a full, rich, and clear tone with great projection. Scale length is 650 mm.
The woods used are European Spruce top, stunningly beautiful Tasmanian Myrtle back and sides, Mahogany neck, Indian Ebony fingerboard, Padauk bridge. The German tuners are by Shaller, smooth as silk.
In this video, Penelope Shvarts, New York Guitar Seminar alum currently studying at Peabody Institute in the studio of Manuel Barrueco, plays music by Rodrigo (Zapateado) and Lecuona (Malagueña).
Penelope performed the music live in the Stiefel Concert Hall at Mannes School of Music. She said this guitar is incredibly responsive, as you can hear in her performance.
Jorge Morel performed on John Price instruments for many decades. We recently learned that John Price has now retired.
