I can't pinpoint exactly when Gatwa had me, but it was somewhere between "Love you, now get out." and "I've just been snowmanned" - I also loved seeing the Doctor just... Enjoying life... in the night club. This feels like the first time we've seen that properly in the modern era. Enjoying new experiences, yes. Enjoying showing the universe off to their companions, absolutely. But just... Enjoying life? Not sure we have. Overall I _really_ liked this one. Which is definitely unusual for me with festive Specials - I don't normally actively dislike them, but... I dunno. This was in the same tier for me as The Runaway Bride, Last Christmas, and Eve of the Daleks, which are the ones that I actively adore. (Still a tier below The Chimes of Midnight, but... That's The Chimes of Midnight, it's _cheating_ . It's a ghost story and a time loop and has a sapient building all at once, all of those are things I adore). Focus on character drama, the sudden twist from light froth (not complaining about light froth) to It's A Wonderful Life style time meddling, playing into a more fantastical aesthetic with the goblin pirate sky ship than Doctor Who has been playing into for quite some time, at least on screen. It's doing a lot very, very, right for me.
On the numbering thing, also noticed that on BBC iPlayer, the specials are listed separately. As a new fan who was familiar with Millie from her time on Corrie, I really enjoyed this episode. Ncuti brought so much fun and energy to the role of The Doctor and him and Millie worked really well together. Looking forward to seeing what's to come from them
The Church on Ruby Road ended up being my first Who episode. And I loved it. I think I'm now in huge anticipation of the new episodes in May. Great video!
Always love hearing your thoughts on DW specials! A great review and I agree that Ncuti has stepped into the role with such purpose and charisma. I believed he was to Doctor instantly!
I personally like the theory of Mrs Flood as an incarnation of Susan - it ties into the family themes that we seem to be getting. (But I'm also a sucker for the weirder theories - give me the wildest theory and then talk about it with conviction as though it makes complete sense and I'm there!)
Bruh, honestly this and that Hazbin show kind of just, recommend me of each other just because of how much people hate them now, even if I couldn't give an absolute toss about either rofl
I’m not invested in who Mrs Flood is. I’m just there for the rides But, when people suggest it, I’d say it’s more than just because she’s a historical DW female villain. The Rani impersonated Mel. In the Christmas special, Flood seemed to have a complete attitude change. Which could lead to Mrs Flood being captured or killed off camera, and the Rani taking on the appearance of Mrs Flood to get close to the Doctor and Mel. I’m not saying that’s what i think is happening. But there is more to the speculation than what’s presented here. The Rani could be a male on their next appearance anyway.
I feel like having his first interaction being with a cop is kinda weird, feels a bit tone deaf. really loved the episode though, ncuti and Millie are so amazing together
@@JoshLStuff Because Ncuti is the first black doctor, and having the first person he interacts with be a cop and having that interaction be a positive one reeks of ignorance
I'm sure we will have an episode where 15 is discriminated against, but it was a fun Christmas episode so it really wouldn't have been appropriate. Plus you'd get the usual suspects crying that it's 'woke'
I think Gatwa was great, I like Gibson. The Sets look wonderful. But the script and Goblins, the song all disappointed me. I like the way you think though. We have the backlog of episodes to enjoy. And people that are loving the New Nu Who get to have this DW. And i’m sure there’ll be a series in the future that appeals to our tastes and will draw us back in. I’ve been watching since the late 70s, it’s always been a hit or miss for me.

Thanks for making such a positive and lovely video, i really appreciate it! Excited to see what happens in the new season.

The Goblins were actually practical. Just extras in costumes.
I think he means the shriking of them. Cause they do look really bad.
So many fan theories from so little
Am just going to relax and wait - life is too short 😂
Loved it Ncuti nailed it. Have subscribed
The goblins weren't cgi. They were real people, expanded in number by cgi perhaps but real people in costume nevertheless.
I'm glad to see you back again, have you finished pantomime? I wish I'd seen it for myself. Great video ✌️
Almost done! Few more days!
The renumbering probably has more to do with the change of production than Disney +.
The Goblin Song was my favourite scene
Mine too

Have you heard big finish doctor who and the pirates, think it might be up your street
A great audio with a cracking song!
I like The Church of Ruby Road
Same
Gay.
As far as Christmas goes it's okay episode, But it seems to feel more Disney to me but that is by design
I think Ruby is Mrs flood but she she is her own mom like Dave lister red dwarf and ruby is the woman how drop baby ruby at the church
Will they do music episode just like they did with xena buffy legacies riverdale?
I THINK THIS GOING TO BE FUN NEW DOCTOR
Mrs Flood is a returning character - Unleashed confirmed it. - My theory is that she's The Master/Missy.
I agreed but could she be Susan?
That's what I thought, but she didn't recognize the police box as the TARDIS the first times she saw it.
Flood, Rain, Rani😉
Personally, I'm with others in hoping that it's not the master seeing as the master has been around a whole lot
No, the Rani! They can't all be the Master!
I love the church on ruby road it's a amazing doctor who story i saw it on Christmas day at its original air time

@@seankelly8432 They do that no matter what anyway
I find it amusing that people think there’s some great storytelling in the pipeline?
Not. Okoy. It. Dont. Like
Hope you enjoy. I'll pass. Prefer the Doctors of the past.
