I had two great uncles in the 1st division, one died in this campaign. The other was wounded in Okinawa. I went to USMC bootcamp in 17/7/1980. I'm overwhelmed by the history of the valor during both world wars and all wars since. Semper Fi
My grandpa was a military man. He used to tell me the USA doesn’t retire anything until they have a better option. I mentioned the banning of flamethrowers and he said they might replace the ones that are already there but they wouldn’t be dumb enough to get rid of them. Am I saying he’s automatically correct because he was in Vietnam, of course not. But he has combat experience and experience in the logistics department so I always took his word for stuff. We definitely have bigger throwers now for damn sure

There was one done from the Japanese perspective. Have been searching for that but can’t find it
Do you know what it's called?
I would like to see the Japanese point of view. Like in the movie Letters from Iwo Jima. Would be interesting
It didn’t earn the praise of all of his men though. A lotta guys sure disagreed with some decisions. We didn’t dare mention Vandergrift in the house.
I think this is better than both "Helmet For My Pillow" and "With The Old Breed"
I'll let you know...
They retired the flame thrower, an essential weapon for this type of warfare. Big mistake.

Too much trauma for all involved parties.
