@@MikaB1302 I've been wanting to get into it myself. Specifically with laptops or desktops, or I would even be open to trying to learn how to fix monitors. I'm not really sure where to buy the stuff to fix though. I've looked into some liquidation sites, but the shipping costs is a killer! Any advice on how/where you got started?
Alkaline (as in alkaline batteries) is another term for a base in chemistry. Acids (such as vinegar) and bases react until there is no material left to react with, Metal is inert, so if you overload it with vinegar, the reaction will eat all the alkaline away. The vinegar is also weak enough it won't corrode the metal unless you leave it in the vinegar for a really, really long time.
Im so stoked that you love your gameboy! Thanks again for the opportunity to build it and thank you for showing it on your channel!! I died at the Seinfeld theme 🤣🤣. In the future I'll have to make sure my camera is in focus 😬
He’s such an awesome guy! I come across him from tiktok and loved watching him save the consoles ❤ amazing for you to support him and show of his amazing knowledge and skills
Vinegar is an acid. It breaks down metal oxide buildup pretty effectively. That is also why things like baking soda and vinegar make good cleaners. The light acidity is good for breaking down common “gunk”
This was awesome, I’m glad the tip about the screw threads was mentioned. I hate self-tapping screws, but metal inserts into plastic cost too much I guess.
I’ve learnt so much from you over the past couple years and I suggest your videos to everyone I know that’s is in love with tech repair like me, nice vid btw
This was great and the finished product looks fantastic. It's a shame that it didn't get the text that was discussed as I was genuinely interested in seeing that. I'm also a little confused as to why you'd clean the shell after installing the screen, but regardless, it looks seriously premium.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this video!!!! I am such a sucker for upgrading old systems to the 21st century!!!! And the fact that you brought a fellow TH-camr in to show off their skills (and maybe get them some subs... like me ;D ) it just AWESOME!!!! That Gameboy really is 'THE Ultimate" !!!! This really was a great video!!!
I will say that I like how he works on things, will just need to improve the video quality and maybe a green screen/dedicated workspace. But I am sure that he knows that better than me.
"I'm not sure why vinegar has such a reaction with this battery acid" Because it's not battery acid - AA batteries use alkali chemicals, so any fluid they leak is alkaline - the opposite of acid. Acids and alkali neutralise each other - and vinegar is an acid. So when you apply vinegar to fluid leaked from an alkaline battery, it breaks it down easily. You don't really get acids in any kind of household battery. The best example of an acid based battery is probably a car battery - and if one of those was leaking, you'd want something that was strongly alkaline, such as baking soda, to clean it up.
I have a white unibody Macbook still in use. Can I use the same polishing cream on the top? Really big scratches on top and I want to get rid of those.
Should have adjusted the sound amp with the new speaker on, the older speaker may have had distortion due to being old limiting how loud you could adjust it
Do you have a Game Boy Color and maybe a Samsung phone ear bud or another one with multimedia buttons? I was looking at a used GBC today and heard a clicking/popping noise every 250 to 300 ms through the headphones only. Now I'm not sure if this is expected with these types of ear buds or the headphone output was faulty.
I'm struggling with a DMG that is fully working except for the left audio channel. Doesn't work at the headphone jack and also doesn't work at the speaker. Whatever plays on the right channel comes over the speaker. It has the effect of cutting out half the notes in some of the songs and effects in games. The board is overall a bit scuzzy looking but I've seen worse still work...
Kick ass game boy had a funny idea watching the video you should make one of those game boys with the brightest ultraviolet lights you can get inside and call it the game boy nobody can play Just be safe where I protection wind messing around with ultraviolet light every safety rule is written in blood
bro i need your help i just bought a ps4 when i start ps4 it works but after some time its display gone i changed the paste changed the hdd reinstall the software but still there is issue can u just tell me where is issue? plz just 1 ans helps me alot
Your grey screw driver looks like my 1 that I got from temu.... hope it not! Anything you buy from there is disposable as it will last u no more 3 uses.
Watching you really makes me want to get into tech repair.
Ive done it starting 4 months ago and i can recommend it! :)
It’s a blast! I’d start small, like with a DMG gameboy or a nes, don’t be too ambitious, it can kill your drive for repair

That makes so much sense!
Seems like a good dude. TronicsFix should donate a camera to him though, that was a tad hazy.

The Gameboy is amazing! Really appreciate you building this and filming it all. That all took a lot of hours!
@TronicsFix It did! All worth it though!!
"Which is just an egg" -> cracked me up 👍

Omg the Seinfeld intro for the egg joke I literally laughed out loud

This is a fun video & collab. Only down side is that it looks like a low res video capture (480P?).
You guys sound so similar when repairing, it’s awesome
I like this guy, is calm and relaxed, it's funny but not obsessed to do jokes all the time and also have a good taste for modding, subscribed.
Steves channel and The Retro Future both were huge inspirations in getting me into repair and now I’m fixing and selling consoles as my main job

That was awesome, I love how you threw in your reaction/opening! Awesome stuff.
Great to see Steve back!!!
I liked it. I'm going to follow him I think. It was fun.
Glad you liked it!
When you say you like the whole video when it’s a 31 minute video and it came out 6 minutes ago

Wow. Last I saw him was 6 months ago, and he was at 10k subs, building out the ultimate game gear for a subscriber.
And some baking soda/water paste can help by rubbing on the corrosion, I have used that method...
Watched this on Richards site but love that you guys teamed up. Awesome. Keep up the great work!! 🇨🇦🇨🇦😊😊. Ps love all the candy he sent you 🤣🤣🥳🥳
This was an awesome video! Thanks for sharing homeboy did such a good job I'm gonna subscribe to him right now!
awesome work.
but if i had to nitpick i would argue that the original display backlighted and biverted is the ultimate display.

This video was recorded on the game boy....
Anyway thumbs up :)
Amazing project
These videos are so satisfying to watch i swear!! Thanks Steve
That is so Amazing.

I didn’t know Macaulay Culkin knew how to repair Game Boys?! …… In all seriousness, this was a fun collab. I don’t mind seeing more stuff like this.
Great looking Gameboy.

Okay, that's pretty nice.

Am I the only who thinks that the guy in the blue t-shirt kinda looks like McCauley Culkin?
I thought the same exact thing
ohh... we were curious to see you trying Thrills and tell us what you like. Maybe in the next video if you can haha
Do a video on more laptops
Richard must be Canadian, i just flew to Dallas and shared the same pile of candy with my staff there. You forgot Kinder Eggs Richard.
They're technically illegal in the states 😅 Didn't want this to be stopped at te boarder!

He didn't put the blue text on like he said he would. I wanted to see how he was going to do it.
I was wondering what happened to that too.
It was all I could do to keep watching after the EGG joke.
Dude is like a budget Seth Rogen minus all the weed.
Think you could take a crack at my heart gold?
I just want to know where Richard's Zelda and coffee shirt came from.
