- I Challenged Him to Repair, Then Build the ULTIMATE Game Boy - In this video, I challenged Richard from Video Game Restoration to repair a broken Game Boy and then turn it into the ultimate Game Boy by upgrading the screen and installing a rechargeable battery. It’s a blast! I’d start small, like with a DMG gameboy or a nes, don’t be too ambitious, it can kill your drive for repair
@@MikaB1302 I've been wanting to get into it myself. Specifically with laptops or desktops, or I would even be open to trying to learn how to fix monitors. I'm not really sure where to buy the stuff to fix though. I've looked into some liquidation sites, but the shipping costs is a killer! Any advice on how/where you got started?

Alkaline (as in alkaline batteries) is another term for a base in chemistry. Acids (such as vinegar) and bases react until there is no material left to react with, Metal is inert, so if you overload it with vinegar, the reaction will eat all the alkaline away. The vinegar is also weak enough it won't corrode the metal unless you leave it in the vinegar for a really, really long time.

Vinegar is an acid. It breaks down metal oxide buildup pretty effectively. That is also why things like baking soda and vinegar make good cleaners. The light acidity is good for breaking down common “gunk”
Steves channel and The Retro Future both were huge inspirations in getting me into repair and now I’m fixing and selling consoles as my main job
I’ve learnt so much from you over the past couple years and I suggest your videos to everyone I know that’s is in love with tech repair like me, nice vid btw

Because it's not battery acid - AA batteries use alkali chemicals, so any fluid they leak is alkaline - the opposite of acid.
Acids and alkali neutralise each other - and vinegar is an acid. So when you apply vinegar to fluid leaked from an alkaline battery, it breaks it down easily.
You don't really get acids in any kind of household battery. The best example of an acid based battery is probably a car battery - and if one of those was leaking, you'd want something that was strongly alkaline, such as baking soda, to clean it up.
This was great and the finished product looks fantastic. It's a shame that it didn't get the text that was discussed as I was genuinely interested in seeing that. I'm also a little confused as to why you'd clean the shell after installing the screen, but regardless, it looks seriously premium.
That's a fancy ultimate dream game gear.

Do you have a Game Boy Color and maybe a Samsung phone ear bud or another one with multimedia buttons? I was looking at a used GBC today and heard a clicking/popping noise every 250 to 300 ms through the headphones only. Now I'm not sure if this is expected with these types of ear buds or the headphone output was faulty.

vinegar is an acid .... old batteries are alkaline ..... the vinegar neutralizes the the base/alkaline corrosion :)

Should have adjusted the sound amp with the new speaker on, the older speaker may have had distortion due to being old limiting how loud you could adjust it
It was all I could do to keep watching after the EGG joke.
I'm struggling with a DMG that is fully working except for the left audio channel. Doesn't work at the headphone jack and also doesn't work at the speaker. Whatever plays on the right channel comes over the speaker. It has the effect of cutting out half the notes in some of the songs and effects in games. The board is overall a bit scuzzy looking but I've seen worse still work...

I swaped the shell of my gba sp and in the process i messed up the volume slider. I tried soldering a new piece for but i messed things up. 😢
