- Today I went thrifting for books to look for the best selling book of all time. Are you wondering what books sell on eBay for profit? In this video I went thrifting for books in six thrift stores looking for the best selling book of all time. In this video I show you all the books I found while thrifting, how much I plan to list them for, how much profit I hope to make and I'll show you one book I found that might be worth a LOT of money!

Great video Mel. Please ignore the negativity. I listed a book about cancer and someone sent me a msg saying I was profiting from someone else's pain. It was my own book so I was actually 'profiting' from my own pain!

I am a fellow ebay reseller but I do mainly clothing. Your videos have really inspired me to try out other niches. I am interested in giving books a go but so nervous! I find that when doing comps they sell for so little and so many sellers offer free shipping so i wonder how I could possibly compete with that. I guess I can try and take it slow. we used missals in the Catholic church-= we all received one (Catholic school class) for our first holy communion in the early 1960's

Yes, they are worth running the comps! Especially look at Hymn type books that look like bibles.

People actually really do read the bible, its not just a decoration , did you know that there is literally a bible left on the moon? no joke, thats a fact. In its pages there is still very relevant information that is up to date with whats happening around the world today for example the last chapter in the bible in Revelations it talks about the end times, the apocalypse, the end of the world and Jesus return. Also it explains how important it is to love one another and why, next time you find a good one keep it for yourself and have a read you may surprise yourself. Love all your content Mel

That’s wildddd. I struggle with understanding how to search the comp on bibles because they’re so many. Like if you don’t see a bible you’re comping sold on eBay, do you still pick it up if it’s in good condition and cheap enough or leave it? Would love to know your process around doing this! Yes! You will be surprised what some of them sell for. I sold one today for $49 plus I sold another religious book for $50 today (both purchased for $1 each)
Great video Mel. I sold a 21 lot jehovah witness small books for $80 inc postage a couple of weeks ago which i got for free. I even sold a chinese bible once too. Always happy to get religious books as i have good luck selling them too

I haven't really been selling books. But years ago I'd sell some on Amazon as my side hustle to pay for my daughters sports. It was before scanners and smartphones simplifiedthe process. In the past I found several biblical concordance that were worth between $30-50. Not sure how they sell these days but may be something to comp when your in the religious section.

Hopefully you can find more and also I find sometimes asking the staff incase they have put them somewhere different then the books.

Someone is always going to make a profit from the bible - the publisher or any store that sells it. I'm saving them from landfill and finding them a home with someone who really wants it :)
Good info. Always look for Bibles. Always quick sellers most times minor flaws not a problem. Actually sold one printed upside down. Bible collectors.
Oh yes, any books with wrong prints can sell well! And yes, even bibles very old and poor condition sell well
The Bibles are held free for the poor who can't afford to pay big money for them. I'm not criticising, just letting you know the reason why they are free at most church run op shops.

Absolutely astonishing the amount of bibles you picked up after the first two stores plus the cool stack of Thomas the Tank! It's surprising that items behind a glass cabinet are not always necessarily very expensive and always worth enquiring about. Good luck with that super cool condition Daily Missal book, exciting find! I'm going to be on the look out now for some of these bibles when I get a chance to go sourcing. Thank you Ian. Yes I need to do further research on the Missal book to make sure it's priced accordingly. It is a beautiful book so I hope I can find it a home with someone who will love it :) A few stores do tend to keep the bibles in the glass cabinets with other little religious ornaments. I often wonder the value of some of the other religious items I see in the cabinets. Thank you for watching!

Mel I just started reselling at the first of the year in the states and I've been tryyyying to find some books. It seems every book I scan or look up, someone is selling it for $3-$4 shipped. I probably just don't know what to look for yet, I'll keep hunting and watching!
Yes, keep hunting. Have you done some research on eBay looking at books that are selling in the $30-$100 range? You should look that up and see what types of books are selling for the price range!
@@backfromburnout no I haven't done much research other than watching a few of your videos. I've been kind of going in blind pulling random books. I'll do some more research and hope to find some soon!
I don't sell many books, but I try to look for something interesting or a bit different. I find those books tend to sell quickly.
The “My Daily Missal” looks like a Catholic missal for participating in the traditional Latin Mass. My husband and I use those every Sunday!
Bible is good to read and fun to collect.

Bibles are one of the few classes of book that do reliably sell for a worthwhile amount here in the UK and I always look out for them. However, Bibles seem very rare; I only come across them very infrequently. Whether this reflects the secular nature of British society is an open question. I know from speaking to staff that some charity shops have a policy of not handling Bibles (any donated go straight in the recycling). I've not been able to get any official reasoning on that but one manager did say he thought it was to avoid offending customers of other (or no) faiths. I did offer to take any off his hands for free then make a charitable donation but he said he couldn't as it was head office policy.

Most of the time bibles are just on the book shelves like other books and they just want to clear the space to make way for the books waiting in the back room to sell.

The main thing with some of the Bibles is the print size. If it's so small you need a magnifying glass to read the text - forget it or make sure in your description you note that the text size is ineligible to the naked eye

A couple of weeks ago I found a new Bible in my mailbox which I don't know was randomly put there or was put in mine specifically. I would have usually thrown it out but decided to sell it for a cheeky $69.00 and it sold a week later hahah :)

I always come to your channel be cause I am inspired by your go get ‘em mantra but what do you say if asked why you’re buying multiple Bibles at one store? I’m curious. Do you get questioned? What do you say...? Also, I feel like a voyeur being amped by your productivity since I am still not selling... I’m a procrastinator.

Mel, do you remove your stickers that were on the books prior to taking photos or keep them on?
I only remove the charity store pricing stickers. If it's an original price sticker from a store when purchased new then no I don't bother removing it :)
Estate sales is a good place to find older bibles .
Oh yes!! And the old leather ones can sell for some great money!
I tried to buy 2 yesterday at a online auction for my collection they where from the early 1940’s but was unable to get them

I'm super creeped out by religious stuff targeting kids, but I'll sell religious works all day long (for adults) if someone will buy them. My usual haunts don't normally carry Bibles Korans or other religious works.

How did the metal case youth bible come out when price comped ?
I’m going to price it around $45. I couldn’t find much like it but I did sell a regular camo Bible on Monday for $30.

I have this massive bible that is called a liberty bible. Has colour plates in it and a blue and gold embossed cover, I think it's an American bible meant to be a family keepsake because it also has many pages at front where families can record births deaths and marriages - I have no idea what it is worth but I have had it for 20 years.

Do the op shops ever question you buying large amounts of Bibles at one time? Also, what about children's religious books? I bought a bunch of books yesterday and there are a lot of Bible Stories and a couple of kids' Bibles.
No I never get asked. Normally though I do buy other books besides bibles but today I was specifically looking for bibles to show you. Honestly, I think they are just happy to clear their shelves when I buy in bulk as they get thousands of books constantly to make room for. If they have no room for them they end up in landfill.

Yes, most of my book sales include the shipping. I sometimes charge it separate on higher priced books or bundles.
How much do you reduce for highlighting?
Not a huge amount and it would depend on the price of the book. If it was a book selling for $40 I would probably drop it to $30
Do you sell bible in groups? Or one by one?
I haven't sold in any bible groups - I hadn't really thought of them but they might be good for the more rare vintage collectable bibles.

Most of the orders include shipping but on some more expensive books or large bundles I sometimes charge shipping on top.

How do you know if its real or fake leather?
It will normally say inside or on the back cover if it's real leather and normally you can smell real leather also :) And it's softer.

If people want free bibles they are available. But a good quality bible does cost money and people are willing to buy them.

Yes, all hotels have a bible in the bedside draw. I'm not sure the reason why exactly though.

Nope never, but if I did I would say I have a shop. I always openly tell people I resell. It's also been good doing that and bought me contacts for future buys.
