    Congrats on the acquisition and a fixing up job well done. Your care in restoring the F3 will repay you in the long term. I saw some sparking during the shell milling surfacing. Check your feeds and speeds so that you don't prematurely wear your inserts. Daniel

    • @yesealex
      @yesealex  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Daniel! I appreciate it. Speeds and feeds were definitely off. The piece of steel was bent(hadn't seen that) and the one end was sticking out higher. So the depth of cut increased significantly. Terrible for tool life, great video footage :)

    Nice job man. I wish I had the money to pick up a mill to restore, It looks like a lot of fun :) Glad to see it's working nicely for you!

      Hi Tanner, thanks for once again watching one of my videos! The mill itself is cheap, but if you add the paint, oil, vice, rotary table, collets and tooling its all of a sudden not that cheap anymore...It caused a lot of stomach pain when I couldn't get the motor to run. Was it smart to invest in such an old mill/platform? But now I'm happy! I wish you the best and hope that you can get a mill for yourself some day!

    • @blackeagle2314
      @blackeagle2314 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's understandable. I don't see why it wouldn't be smart to get an older mill, as long as you can source or make parts for it. I like old tools anyways :)

    why don't you solvent weld the 3d prints?

    • @yesealex
      @yesealex  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is that possible for PLA? I can't smooth it out with acetone as I used to do with ABS.

    • @meneerstryckers
      @meneerstryckers 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, acetone doesn't dissolve PLA.
      I wish I could just clean my nozzles with acetone ;)

    Nice work, dude! The cover looks really cool. I think I might have laminated it, though. (With a hammer in your hand, everything looks like a nail :-D) Also love the plastic welding part! Can you share what the electric problem turned out to be?

    • @yesealex
      @yesealex  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I like that figure of speech! Going to remember that one. The electric problem was a loose electrical contact i think. Probably had something to do with the fact that we dropped it from a trailer while unloading...

    Really nice job - I recently got an F3 myself and am yet to run it. Did you manage to get much tooling with yours?

      Everything I need :) there is a webshop in luxemburg that has collets and arbors. Just dont buy original rotary tables

      De kap die je hebt gebouwd ziet er goed uit alleen is het rechthoekige design voor de machines die na 1980 zijn geproduceerd het model dat jij hebt heeft meer de rondere vormen. Super mooi ding en dat voor 750 normaal kun je ze pas vanaf 3k vinden
