You guys picked my deck! Also, the second boros charm in game 3 shouldn't have been cast because blossoming calm gives hexproof until your next turn, not end of turn, so you still would have had hexproof. Still, really good games, burn is a pretty rough matchup for creativity.
It could still be cast in response to Rebound, so it didn’t change much. But it’s important to keep in mind because he could’ve played a sorcery speed burn, and that would have been totally illegal.
There’s always miss plays with these guys
I'm surprised that he chose sorcery with emissary.
Blossoming calm grants hexproof until your next turn, so Carl still had hexproof when Jamin used Boros charm in the third game
while technically correct it isnt super important since the upkeep charm would have resolved anyway
the blaze on the other hand was not legal to cast.

I wanted Carl to win that game 3 so badly. I was so happy when Jamin top-decked the Monastery, but then he had another draw and got the Lightning Bolt 😢

Blossoming Calm is way better than just "end of turn". It's until your next turn. Other than that I've really enjoyed your paper magic content, keep it up. You should do Taxes vs Tron at some point.
one can still respond to it on the stack though right? like, when casting it for free with the Rebound at the next upkeep you wont have hexproof at that moment, so theres a small window there where your opp can get spells in and target u?
@@alext.1244 thats correct, he could have casted the boros charm in response to the trigger still dealing the 4. however casting searing blaze the turn after that (i think) was illegal. creativity would have probably won if they played it correctly

Not really know the burn list in modern i feel as though protection from instants was likely the better play in pretty much every scenario. As i don't think burn run's a sorcery that deal's 4 damage, and i think they run slightly more instant's than sorceries. Also very importantly due to being on 4 life boros charm was alway's lethal. It is a valid assumption that his burn spell could be lava spike, an rarely it might be rift bold if he was playing around teferi. It couldn't be skewer the critic or he would have played it when you tapped out the previous turn while it still cost 1 mana.
Choosing instants is always the better choice against burn. He would have won on game 3 if he chose instant, not because that it stops the lightning bolt, but it would have prevented the damage from the deflecting palm, so that he could still attack with his Emrakul for the A6.

Game three, he cast prismari command without tapping a blue source allowing him to have blue mana up for flusterstorm meaning the searing blaze should have resolved
I'd like to see a good Goblin Tribal Deck. Last week i found my mono red aggro deck with which i went to a local tournament back in 2015. It had a light goblin theme but not really.

This could go off on turn 2. Find a 1 mana token generation spell or just a cheap 1 drop, play a red ritual, and then get what you need

How about an Urza Thopter-Sword deck for a upcoming paper modern gameplay? The deck still feels really underplayed these days!
Why would you pick protection from sorcery over instants against burn?
Carl even named his opponents outs with deflecting palm and boros charm -- which are also both instants.
There were more sorceries left in the deck based on standard burn lists.

Slight suggestion for the name for the Angel in G1. Why not name instant/sorcery instead of creatures? There seems like no downside when compared to naming creatures. Naming instants/sorceries and leaving your dudes back to block, you would take at most 2 damage from the goblin guide putting you to 4, while naming creatures leaves you open to the 2 cards in his hand killing you, which they did.
That line would also give you lethal the next turn because of fire//ice in your hand.
Naming creatures protects you from the eidolon ;)
did anyone else notice the misplay in game 2 where carl took the extra turn illegaly? he didn't cast emerkul. the extra turn clause is a cast trigger

I feel like Carl should've boarded out the Emissary. Because Jamin has two or three card types that can kill Carl, Emrakul SEEMS like it would always be better. Of course, I'm speaking as a very casual Commander player, so this advice should probably be taken with a grain of salt.

@@CardmarketMagic not really. The only problem i had more frequently is running out of creatures against heavy removal or not getting enough equipment. Which i kind of smoothed out a bit with 2 nettlecyst. In my personal version i have 2 blinkmoth nexus & 4 Darksteel citadel, since I don't wanna purchase Urza's sagas. And 2 bone saw (no ragavans nor fury - don't wanna buy) and 2 temur battle rage/raking claws.
Does Boros Burn have any sorcery speed burn spells? I don't feel like I saw any in the video, so pretty Carl didn't go for protection from instants.

Very late, but Creativity just puts the cards onto the battlefield, not casts them. Carl should NOT get an extra turn off Emrakul, because the extra turn trigger only happens if Carl cast Emrakul, which Carl didn't. In game 2 Jamin should have gotten an extra turn. If he topdecked lava spike or something similar he would have had lethal (lava spike +skewer=sorcery kill).
It wasn't an extra turn, Carl casted creativity in the final step of Jamin's turn with the +1 ability of teferi

There are some services in the US (I cannot vouch for how cheap or practical they are though) but nothing of the sort in Europe. I assume it's simply too expensive to make it logistically possible

Choosing protection from sorceries instead of instants when up against burn is the most one with nothing play I have ever see LOL
The deck usually runs about a 60-40 split of instant to sorceress. Think of Rift Bolt, Skewer the crytics, lava Spike. As he had already played out a much higher number of instants (you can see that in his graveyard), sorcery was the mathematically correct play 👍 although sometimes luck is just against you 😅
Was this deck even near being under 85 dollars tho? Triomes, spaghetti, fetches, jayce, wrenn and six. Seems more like 850$
no, and it wasn't meant to. this is the video where they announced that challenge, not where they play with under 100e decks.

it was never not legal.
Now, I play boros control which is basically the same with actual 4 wurmcoil engines, has board wipes (2 wraths, 4 clarions), now thid frvk is meant to control, so basically no lava spikes, 4 boros charms, it is meant to control the opponent or agrro him out in the first 2 turns, 87% winrate, the sideeboard is your friend, you NEED to change it depending on what ya play against! but so strong
Creativity cast at 10:13 should deal two damage through eidolon because the converted mana cost is still three. Even though x was one it is technically still three mana. It’s why chalice of the void on zero counters walking ballista
