My Nana and her sisters used to go into Wichita Falls from Holiday to hear Bob Wills play when he'd come to town. I grew up on his music and listening to these stories. He was a BIG deal to Texans. IMO, Western Swing IS Texas.

Loves me some Faded Love! I hung out in Levelland and Lubbock for three years, studying and playing music at SPC. Miss the good folks of West Texas, and their “musicals” that seemingly every town has. The salt of the earth!!

On Sundays at a big ballroom in Oklahoma City in the 1950's western swing players would gather in a big ballroom and jam. Sometimes there would be a hundred of them. I was up there once or twice when I was a drummer for Hurshul Clotheir's Oklahoma Travelers while still in High School.

Revisited this site tonight. Ah, nothing like Western Swing! When I was a boy out in the Oklahoma Panhandle at Boise City and later just east of it at Mooreland and Woodward, and of course in the Texas Panhandle too, this was our music.

Beautiful story I've met and know Jody who doesn't when you live here in Big Spring. I have an 8 track tape of his daddy that I have yet to play I'm terrified it'll ruin or something...but I'm proud of Jody keeping the tradition for its tradition that we lean on because it's family.

A fine man, and my friend. Met Jody and his family, about 25 years ago, through church. Have had the pleasure of hearing him and his band, several times on our biannual visits to my wife's home area, and have enjoyed wonderful nights at the Stampede. HOWEVER, I didn't know that he has Bob Wills' fiddle! I've hosted a big band show for nearly 25 years on a local public radio show, and always include a "Cowboy Song of the Week"(sometimes two!). Bob, Hoyle, and Jody, through their recordings, have been frequent guests!

6;38/7;45 shows from above ,the classic standard string configuration for all bowed and plucked instruments .; the g on the left to the e on the right which facilitates ease of access by the left fingerings hand ,to all strings and to right hand bowing. That's how they evolved.

I was in the Army tropics in 71 and met a little sawed off Texan that was a radio operator and a fiddler. I always liked Bob Wills and cowboy music in general and being a hillbilly and after scrounging an old flat top guitar somewhere, we started filling the Asian night air with some real fiddle music. Don't know what happened to the little fiddler but he sure helped me, other g.i's and some other civilian mechanics on a paving crew spend a lot of enjoyable time in a not so enjoyable place.

Ready for some Western Swing trivia: Bob Wills played in the 1st true Western swing band led by Milton Brown (and the Light Crust Doughboys). Milton died from a car wreck in the mid 30s or he may have been “Bob Wills”! Milton was from my hometown of Stephenville, TX and my Mother remembers him in Stephenville and on the Ft. Worth radio stations.

The Mrs. says: Things sure have changed, When I was single and would go to a big "Honky Tonk" in Norwalk, Calif, on a Saturday night the place was full of cigarette smoke and everybody was drinking and getting drunk and now, I see there is just bottles of water or soda and no way would you dare smoke anymore, well cleaner and a hell of a lot more boring. No more hell raising for these straight laced people. Oh, I forgot the Year, that was 1966.

Jody can sing and play very well. He can be a nice guy, but he never kept anyone around that was a better singer. This includes ex wives, girlfriends or other artists. He has a very big ego, but with his history that should be expected. By the way, I am from Big Spring.
