    One thing those posts on the Lion Energy batteries, they come with additional wing bolts of 2 different lengths, so you can attach additional cables to the batteries via those. I've never had any complaints with mine.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I have the wingnuts, but I find they are pretty small for a larger gauge cable connection. I think they are mainly meant for a single battery usage for easy connect and disconnect. I use an external buss bar instead. Cheers, Ray

    we have 3 lion energy batteries... they are fantastic... run our microwave no problem. I have run my AC off 3 but not realistic for any more then an hour... I agree with the terminal lugs... could be more robust.

    Get a Victron Smart shunt. It has Bluetooth and gives very detailed information. I have the Lion Energy batteries and the smart shunt and I love it.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, I already have the Trimetric battery monitor with a shunt plus the Wi-Fi addon, sort of the same thing as the Victron, but it still can't tell you what's up with each individual battery in the bank and its individual 4 lithium cells. It would be handy to know if they are getting out of balance and things like internal temps. Cheers, Ray

    Ray, I read the border is supposed to open October 21st. If so, will you guys be wintering in the Southwest? We’ve been enjoying trailer camping by the ocean lately, North of Morro Bay.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We plan to but last I heard they had extended the border closure until Oct 21st but hadn't announced an opening date, they have been extending it monthly since March 2020

    Ray, I count on your vids for my rv education, thank you. We will have an EKKO coming in the spring but we only ordered it with one lithium battery, our solar guy will add another. It comes with a Lithionics battery, can that be mixed with other lithium batteries? Someone on the EKKO page said no, TIA

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think mixing can be a problem due to the different internal BMS boards (battery monitor systems) located inside the batteries. Manufactures don't want there batteries mixed with other brands or models or even ages in case of a conflict. Whether it will work or not is another story. For the most part given the high cost of the batteries most people don't attempt it so there is little real world info on what may happen. Cheers, Ray

    I may have missed your comment on your travels to the US this winter, but I get the feeling that you're not coming down this year. Has the government made it difficult or impossible to rotate to warmer climate?

      Here is a recent news story - www.news10.com/news/higgins-keeps-up-pressure-in-hopes-of-opening-us-border-to-canadians/
      Here is from my recent newsletter: The answer is basically I don't know. I've been getting this question a lot lately from mostly my American friends unaware that the northern land border is still closed to Canadian travelers.
      Canada opened up its land border to USA citizens for non-essential travels on Aug 9th. I've noticed quite a few US tourists and RVers on the Island now. But unfortunately, the USA hasn't reciprocated and continued to keep its land border closed to us.
      Some Canadian snowbirds use a loophole where they fly to the USA (funny enough, this has always been allowed), then have their RV commercially transported across the border and reunite with it stateside.
      Personally, for me, I'd rather not use the loophole. If the USA doesn't want us crossing, that's fine, no biggy. We are now well set up for wintering on Vancouver Island. But I know some people have more pressing needs with family or property down south or can't cope with the cold weather due to health reasons.
      So there you have it, we are waiting to see what the Biden administration decides to do. The next border update is scheduled for October 21st, but things could change anytime.

    • @jkidd2007
      @jkidd2007 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@LoveYourRV Too bad you can't make entry from the southern border. I hear that is completely open to whomever wants to come in. I'm just kidding. That would mess up your eligibility to healthcare and your 180 days out of country. We've met quite a few Canadians in Florida (our winter home) who take advantage of the fly across and hire a professional driver to take their rig across and pick them up at the airport. If you're hoping for Biden's decision to make sense...Good luck with that.

    Thank you Ray for the update. Love the Lion batteries and have a set of 4. Just ran into the problem that the batteries ran down and shut off. I have to agree that there is no way to truly know what's going on with each battery. I have the Victron shunt and watch the battery level continually. With the level constant on these batteries all the way until the shutoff.
    Is there a way that they can test to know if you have an issue with a battery.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could try pressing the level meter button on each battery and see if they read the same level light, or disconnect each and measure the voltage with a multimeter. They all should be pretty close.
      With mine what I do is every 6 months or so I take the batteries and charge each separately until completely full where the BMS cuts off charging. Then I connect them back together. I think that will help keep them balanced. Also, I make sure every few weeks to fully charge the bank so they can get a chance to balance the cells in the batteries.

    • @stevemacedo771

      @@LoveYourRV Thank you!
      I did use the test button and this is where I discovered they were very low. When I checked this after a day of 1 solar panel (more coming). the batteries showed 2 lights on 2 batteries and 1 light on the other 2 batteries. On the shunt it shows 12.89 amps.
      Had not heard or thought of charging them individually. That came to my mind of possibly testing them to see if one was bad. Like you would test on lead acid to find out that one is dragging the others down.
      Going to go to a rv park today and give them a full charge up. Then see if they can be checked bu Lion Energy. Only 4 hours away from them. Peice of mind.
      Again thank you for all that you do and continue to do with your channel. It helps people out there more than you realize.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I remember when I first got the batteries shipped to me Lion Energy made a point to tell me to charge fully before putting them together in parallel. I guess because they don't get shipped fully charged for safety regulations of the shippers. So charging each individually first matches them up. All the best, Ray

    Thanks for the update video Ray. Excellent as always. You mention that you were powering your Starlink system while you were describing your items using power, and it got me wondering that it might be a challenge to use Starlink in such a treed area. Are you able to get good service where you are camping in the video? Inquiring minds want to know. :)

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not too bad actually. I did a video about that recently about forest camping with itth-cam.com/video/15e-MuGob34/w-d-xo.html In our current campsite there is a opening of sky to the north so Starlink averages about 80-85% connection time so can stream video and surf and email OK. I uploaded this video which was almost 2 gigs in about 20 minutes. Would be terrible for video conferencing and gaming though because of the 10-15% of time it is disconnected from a satellite is spread out as small disconnects.

      @@LoveYourRV Good to know! I've had mine on the roof of our cottage in Eastern Québec for over a month now and it is impressive! Never disconnects and speeds average between 150 to 300 MBs download and 20-30 upload. It is a game changer!!! Looking forward to trying it like you on the road!

    Your next project could be to make a baffle or sound-dampening box for the generator (without smothering it, of course). Good for you, good for the neighbours. :)
