When I moved to the US, I didn't speak English and instead of taking English classes, I went to work in a shopping mall where I had the experience of communicating 8 hours a day with different accents and attitudes. It was a very profound experience. I studied English, the American mentality, and I was paid $13 an hour for it. No one could imagine that my husband has a high income, we have several houses that we rent out, stocks, investments, etc. My house is more expensive than the house of the general manager of the store where I worked. Why am I telling this? You will never know how much money your coworker has, you can only guess.😅

It’s funny to me how these people have audacity to criticize other people for wearing luxury bags and on their opinion “ cheap clothes” but yet these influencers are the ones who are shopping for their clothes on Amazon. Stop criticizing how people spend their money.

I knew someone who made 120 k dollars a year being a bartender from tips. Don't judge a book by the cover. Other service workers have made money in crypto, and stock. Just enjoy your server's style. It's none of our business how they afforded it.

Tom Ford once said that he can't stand to see someone dressed in his fashion from head to toe, as on the runway. He said that he loves customers who knows themselves what they like and dislike. I might like a Chanel 22 bag, but I might also like my $50 jeans, my Spanx bodysuit, and my Vionics flipflops. Lol.

This whole “real rich people do this or that” conversation is so stupid. Rich people are all different. Some don’t care about luxury and status and some do. Some just like nice things and some don’t care. Sometimes they will spend a lot on some things and then they won’t spend on other things. Anytime someone makes sweeping statements about all rich people, it tells me they are not rich and don’t know many rich people

I had this happen to me when I was young. I saw someone with an LV bucket bag, when they first re-released the Damier Ebene pattern in 1998, and fell in love with it. I had no idea what brand it was, just that it was beautiful. I hunted the bag down, which back then took actual work, lol, and bought it. I was so happy, but noticed all of my older (and significantly better paid) co-workers were giving me the side eye. But it never really clicked until I was talking to the head of accounting and mentioned how it had been a long time since I'd had a raise. He literally said "what do you need a raise for, so you can buy another bag?". I was so stunned I couldn't think of anything to say. That place was all around toxic, though. Needless to say, I still buy luxury bags. Like you, Dacob, I just like beautiful things, whether it's furniture, art, or fashion and people should just MTOB.

Omg this comment reminds me when I was younger. I was working in a job one level above entry level job. I remember re using a paper bag from the shop Space NK which to memory must have been from a gift bc I’ve never been to that shop. My boss sees it and comments “Space NK, I’m paying you too much” I was young and thought it was funny I didn’t see the nasty snobby side of the comment at the time but yeah he clearly thought I was below that level of luxury. How rude and judgey of him makes my skin crawl

I drive a 2004 Hyundai and I carry a preloved LV and a nice preloved CHANEL bag from Fashionphile. I no longer care about what people think when I hop out of my old car. It’s cute and I don’t have a car note. I’m sure people think my bags are fake when I get out of my car and wearing Fashionova. I love my items for me and not others.

There's this idea of Universal everything now like global citizen rich person consumer fashion victim par excellence. But English upper class is entirely different from Italian uppers from Russian etc etc. Like there's no Universal Beauty, only templates based on continent or nation, there's no Correct Way to be a Rich Person, it's silly. It's a marketing gimmick from Boomers exploiting PInterest to fake trends. What does a rich person wear? Whatever they want. That's typically national and religious like a WASP. There isn't a uniform or they'd work in McDonalds. They wear all black outfits too?

My subordinates wear Louis Vuitton and Gucci bags. Their cells phones and even bags are always more expensive than mine. 🤣 Who cares? Their money, their choice. As long as they do their work one time and in a good quality, I don't care. Why should I care what bags they carry?
I have a family to support and mortgage to pay, they don't. That explains why. 😂

People this days lost the touch and don´t know anymore what "chic" is all about. Chic is not Louis Vuitton or Gucci head to toe! Chic is wearing one statement piece of one brand (with logo or not) and having a "nonchalant" attitude about it. It´s not the logo everywhere. It´s the styling, the colors, the use of textures, the attitude, the education, the personality. I don´t like the "quiet luxury" hysteria, but I love clothes with no logos but with a beautiful piece of jewelry or a bag that screams some type of luxury house. For me this is chic and good taste and I love people that live with a low income and have the chic lifestyle at the same time. Good taste is not for everyone but... is for everyone who has it within them! Congratulations, very good video Dacob!

Oh, I also get a kick out of people who say that a person who drives an older car shouldn't have luxury bags. Some of us are moms who don't want car payments on a vehicle that our kids will trash. Car paid off= more financial freedom, no car payments, and no stressing out every time a kid spills their juice box, icee, or eats like they normally do (meaning, most of the food is on the floor and seat, rather than inside of the mouth.). I will wear my thrift store clothes in my paid off kid-trashed car, and carry a designer bag. At least the bag makes me feel a little less of a hot mess, nevermind trying to look rich.

Like girl. Mind your business and stop pocket watching other people. I don’t care what other people decide to spend their money on, so why are you judging others? Maybe they just want the handbag or the shoes, and want to wear high street or simple basic attire. Live your life and let other people live theirs. Simple!

Being defined by economic factors is dehumanizing. This is kind of the underside of luxury, because exclusivity is part of it. Not including everybody is fundamentally part of the image these designers have in mind. And it contributes to the mentally that people don't deserve to have expensive things. These people are expressing classism. We can talk about budgeting and whether it's smart to put a bag on a credit card, but that's not the same thing as sneering at other people for making that decision or looking like maybe they made that decision.

It’s off putting & gauche that others are telling ppl how to spend their money! … It seems like it’s rooted in jealousy! My adult child lives at home and i tell him all the time, you’re young.. live it up but save… You have a house, no kids, a degree, etc…. I was never as fortunate as my son!!! But im going to spoil my children because I prayed to God to give me the ability to provide for them the way I do! If my children are fired for being fortunate, then we will be filing a lawsuit! Because that’s still a form of discrimination!

Well ….. we may not have to worry about TikTok in six months. The U.S. House of Representatives will fast-track a vote next week on legislation that would give China's ByteDance six months to divest from short video app TikTok or face a U.S. ban after a committee unanimously approved the measure Thursday, March 7th. The Energy and Commerce Committee 50-0 vote represents the most significant momentum for a U.S. crackdown on TikTok, which has about 170 million U.S. users. Unfortunately, even if TikTok is banned people’s attitudes are not going to change but at least there will be one less platform for them to spew out their venom.

I work in a hospital, so very few people actually see what I wear for the commute in - that being said (and this is probably more to do with my introvert personality), I don't want to wear obvious expensive logos. My style is more minimalistic, but I have bought a Gucci bag recently, and not because I have an inferiority complex, or because I want to look richer than I am, but because this particular colourway is 100% my style (not any other colourway in this style), the fact that it is in the gg canvas put me off for the longest time, but the colourway is so perfect for me.
My only other thought on buying luxury on a low to medium salary is only doing it if you can afford it, and all your other bills have been paid. Never borrow money for non essentials! I save up for the more expensive items, I consider if they'll work for me, before buying, and the intention is to keep them, wear them, and love them for years.
I don't look down on those who do wear obvious logos, its a different aesthetic to mine, but no less valid! There will be some people who buy things because of their insecurities, but there will also be others who are buying for other reasons - I can't tell just by looking at them!

This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion, but I watched the young lady's video (thank you for linking it!) and I agree with her to an extent. As I get older, I've learned to pay the business that minds me and typically adopt the attitude of "you do you." However, she also mentioned in the video's description that putting money toward less volatile investments is a much better path forward toward actually growing your money/wealth. That is true. It's honestly so hard seeing some of these young people on social media talk about how much consumer debt they're in simply because they spend way above their means on things like clothes, bags, cars, etc. I'm here for anyone who wants to redirect their attention and focus on achieving financial stability. The issue is that the way they discuss the topic comes off very condescending, so the message gets lost. There's a way to discuss the benefits of choosing to save or invest your money instead without coming off like a shaming jerk.

Oh dear...the influencer in question really wants a Birkin badly I would think and is envious of others who have them. Very sad and actually vulgar to criticise how someone else spends their money, also being dressed head to toe in designer labels is not a good look. If someone flipping burgers has a dream to own a Kelly/ Birkin/ Chanel/ Vuitton etc and has found a way to fund it without foregoing their bills or food, good for them!

I have always loved the finer things in life. The only change for me is the frequency or quantity of those finer things I can have as I earn more. When I was in university I maybe only went once or twice a year to a nice restaurant but now I can go a lot more often like at least once a month. A few years ago I could only afford a couple designer purchases but now I can afford way more that almost my entire wardrobe is designer. 80% of my stuff are also logo-less. Does it mean I’m showing off something? I don’t think so. I genuinely always loved these things and some even dreamed of having since I can ever remember like certain handbags and now that I can finally get them, I am and that brings me so much joy to be able to finally attain the things I sometimes couldn’t even imagine I ever would.

If someone wants to purchase an $8,000 bag, that's not their coworkers biz,. And why should a co-worker be making making assumptions on how someone else got their bag, maybe it was gifted, they don't know. Why should they care? Now on the other hand... If it were my son, who's REALLY struggling to get by, and he spent $8,000 on a Prada suit just because he wanted it, I'd definitely be upset with him, and for two reasons, 1, it's going to make him struggle even more, and 2, he's always borrowing money from me, and I always help him because I know he's struggling, but after a purchase like that.... hmmm

Some people really enjoy luxury/designer (including myself) and maybe save up for a while to get their dream bag or other luxury item. I personally don’t care what a person does with their money (unless it’s illegal) but I work in a corporate environment and unfortunately there are people here even in positions of power who talk and frown upon those wearing luxury to the office unless they are at a certain pay grade/position. As a result, the few luxury items I have, I wear them mostly on the weekends outside of the office especially if they are recognizable luxury. I am in a senior position but not yet management to feel confident wearing luxury to work without the fear of upsetting anyone.

What about a decent good quality preloved designer bag? Plus a well put together Zara or high street brand outfit? Does it mean you are broke or pretending to be rich? I beg to differ..by choice I buy preloved or vintage designer bags, or clothes, mix n match wt Zara, highstreet brands, some new..so I love my own sense of style n dress, n not getting into debts..I don't really care..To each it's own Dacob😊 Be comfortable in your own skin..

People are ignorant. I’m 50 yrs old and I will buy and wear what I want. I own Hermes, Bottega, Loewe and I buy my plain everyday clothes at Zara and H&M because I think ready to wear is generally a waste for my lifestyle. I do have some but it’s only a select few. I love how people think they know something or can size up someone’s bank account based on what the see in a given moment. How ignorant.

This just seems to me as people saying that people ought to stay in their lanes and to not want more or to not think that they deserve more. I’m British and we still do have a class system to some degree but I always thought that Americans are very fortunate to not have these limitations. My Grandmother ( who passed away some years ago) was a maid of all works in a large house. She was basically the lowest staff member and the work was very hard . She had told me that she got a day off a month. Being working class her options weren’t that many and most did go into service. So as I am from such humble stock should I eschew all luxury goods ? Am I fooling myself that they are for the likes of me? It’s just ridiculous and anyway the pieces I have from Chanel and from other brands are accessible to most people if they are willing to save . I don’t know quite how to explain myself but I mean…I’m not lusting after a private jet , my own island in the Caribbean or a yacht costing millions…doing so would be a waste of my time since even if I saved for the next 30 years I couldn’t buy them. So that was likely why my Grandmother wasn’t thinking about Chanel handbags. Times change and so do our expectations.

Yes! That reeks classism. Some of us will never achieve the tax bracket to be "allowed" to buy luxury. Why can't working class people also have nice things, if we can afford them. Are we not allowed to beauty?

I m a big Fan of choosing in what you want to spend your Money and hey If you Focus on luxery bags you do you. I m critical about going into dept for it though because it can become social norm (Like in Asia right now) and that s overall bad for the consumers. Let s Not normalize going into dept for Things that are not essential.

These people are so judgmental, mean and insecure. They should spend their time and money on a therapist. People buy, beauty for beautify’s sake. Young people have to establish their credit so if they can start with luxury, more power to them. Why can’t people be happy for others? Love should always be the word in our heart.

Totally agree. Please continue to educate these people who judge people only at face level. Is really shallow and irritating. This is not healthy at all. Stop judging people! You never know who are these co-workers... they may be the founder's son or daughter in disguise. Who knows? They work for experience, doesn't mean they cannot afford luxury items. Why bother about how people spent their money and how much money they have...you are not their mother!!! Yes agree "mine your own business...MYOB" Thumbs up, Good one 👍 I have been disguising myself like an administrator, recepitonist, cleaner and worker in my own company. No one knows I am the founder...and that is exactly what I want to do cos I want to see and feel the ground genuinely...knowing what is really going on...so Stop Judging People at Face Level and mind your own business...you never know what is the background of your fellow colleagues, be it your employees or not. Start treating everyone with respect and STOP JUDGING!!!

I mix higher end products with lower end fashion all the time. I like getting items that mix and match with everything I own; luxury and not. I'm mixing Zara/H&M with Coach, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Gucci and other things I have. I mix high street fashion with fast fashion (although I'm looking at the material things are made out of, as I like cotton, silk, linen and wool, along with modal).
Also, have these children ever heard of second-hand/vintage fashion? Lots of deals to be found. People need to mind their business and quit with the mean girl crap.

Plus, Versace grew up in a small town, didn't graduate high school, but he loved clothes. Coco Chanel was an orphan in a convent. Is ''destiny'' going to dig them up and tell them they didn't have enough status and money for fashion so they can't be part of it? Seems like a lot of projection on her part. Some people REALLY love the look and feel of these items. My vintage (I'll never get rid of) Valentino bag is truly a work of ART. Just to look at it can change your mood, the beauty of it. Who gives a sh*t what anyone else thinks of it smh

If people want to wear luxury items, let them. Their choice. Will I think they are making very poor financial decisions and shouldn't do it? Absolutely. But it's not my choice, it's theirs. Plus who knows, maybe those bags and items really will retain or increase their value and be investments. Who knows?

People can spend their money as they please, maybe someone likes wearing just one bag all the time-so if they want to spend extra money on that one bag it makes sense. Someone might prefer having cheap different kind of bags. Yes, a lot of people get themselves in trouble living above their means and buying stuff they can't afford-their choice.
