- Consider this an extremely late 'follow-up' to my original Fall of Doctor Who video ( • The Fall of Doctor Who ) - except I mainly focus on the first two episodes of Ncuti Gatwa's first series and how I never expected things to stoop so low....

I love the show and have done since the 70s, if you don’t like it, don’t watch it. The new season has some cracking episodes.

I really really liked Jinx in the show. I think her overacting was just another part of the character and I didn't mind it (though I understand if others don't like the amount of 'scenery chewing').
What put the episode in the bin for me was the writing.....
In the end, for me, it was good acting, good charactization but .... not a lot for those actors to actually use
That's fair enough.
My primary focus is the writing but Jinx just was a bit too much for me. They were giving it their all, I can't deny that.
Characterisation of the Doctor and Ruby is a bit thin to me. (I have watched 73 Yards and even at that, beyond abandonment issues, there's not much on the script page to flesh out Ruby in my opinion)

She was playing a character that is "they / them". She is not "they / them" herself.
(Just for the record, by the way. I don't give a fuck about pronouns myself - only in the grammatical-gender-less English language could you even have this debate - but I value accuracy.)

For the record, I used 'they' as a sort of a catch-all term as I wasn't 100% sure. The more you know, I guess.

I wasn't keen on Space Babies but I've enjoyed the stories that followed. I thought Monsoon was great as Maestro and loved the creepy vibe of 73 Yards. It's hard to know how to judge the fan response because so many went in determined to hate it. RTD returning caused a backlash, Gatwa being cast caused some incredibly toxic backlash as did the announcement that Monsoon would be in it and that was long before series actually aired. People even complained about the wheelchair ramp on the TARDIS ffs. There's so much hate rising in the world right now, particularly against anything pertaining to the black and LGBTQ communities from actual legislation to stop kids being told gays exist to the ridiculous and baseless scare about CRT being taught in schools. You can't help but wonder if the negative response to a gay, black Doctor is part of the same thing.
I'm not saying there aren't real reasons to be critical of it but it seems way higher than Chibnall's era and I'd say the new series has definitely improved on that. Also when people start slamming something as woke you have to wonder what they mean because what the word actually means is a positive thing. It's hard not to think of Fox News, The Daily Wire or people like Ron Desantis when people start complaining about representation. Not that this video was particularly like that but in reference to how some fans have responded to the series which was mentioned towards the end.

Its worse. Chibnall's era felt like a boring forgettable dream. This is like a nightmare.

This is surreally dreadful. You’d think the actors themselves, at some point during the script reading, would look up in confusion and say “sorry, this is total shite, we just can’t do this.” If not for the sake of the show, then at least their own careers.
Where's there's shite, there's brass. Gatwa is prepared to do his shallow mincing and operatic routine while reciting shitty dialogue for more money than any of his predecessors were ever paid. And what crap it is - talking babies under threat from their accumulated snot which has become sentient in the form of a monster; a sexless pianist who kills people by draining their musical talent from them. That's crap of the patronising sort which belongs on CBBC.
Thank goodness that this show gets better!
1st one was not intended for children. My 4 and 7 yr old were so excited to watch a Who with children. Amd then there's a monster literally to give them nightmares.

I am the target audience for this most recent episode. I nearly cried with joy when i saw jynx was going to be in dr who. I make music and ive been watching the dr for 30+ years.
I didnt even make it to the end. As soon as he said "now for the twist" and started randomly singing i turned it off.
I nearly turned it off mid way through when the Dr was staring of into the sky monologuing awkwardly about how they were doomed. He stopped talking, kept staring into the sky and the clip just hung there. Wtf was going on
I don't think you're quite aware of what is being hinted at as happening in the show, and because of that you're turning it off...
I feel bad for you because it'll all make sense at the end of the season! 🤷♂
@@0swren I cant watch another full season of garbage in the hopes for a payoff at the end. It feels like some creative genius has written out an amazing overarching storyline then handed it off to the most incompetent buffoons to fill in the gaps.
It was like this last Dr but there was enough positives (for me) to enjoy it. I genuinely cant think of a positive from the first 2 episodes aside from some exciting cliff-hangers.
I turned off half way through Space Babies, and haven't seen another episode since. Talking babies in peril from their accumulated snot which has become sentient in the form of a 'bogeyman' (audience expected to chorus with 'ooh, that's clever!) If the monster had been formed from their soiled nappies, it would be more apt - this sort of patronising ____ is more worthy of CBBC
I don't get how they could have made Dr Who worse. And yet here we are.

"Intended for children"...And yet the used to cover things like body horror (cybermen), corporate greed (The Green Death) and Nazis (Genesis of the Daleks). And they did it with intelligence.
Whilst the first episode was the weakest, this season is peak DW with great writing. Long may it continue.

Have to agree. I really disliked the Jodie years (not because of her, if anything, her take on the Doctor was the only thing working) but this season has ranged from fine to great. Not perfect but a huge return to form (for 2005 reboot fans anyway). I'm all for criticism but I do think the way some people have been complaining about this season, it's as if they've convinced themselves that Doctor Who is some macho Indiana Jones meets Star Trek sci-fi advenutre.
There's always been a camp, silly, heavy-handed element to the show. The main villain has a plunger for an arm for crying out loud. I'm convinced if characters like Lady Cassandra, Captain Jack and the Adipose were introduced this year, the same people would be saying the show is a disgrace.

The Doctor is the last Time Lord as far as we know, which may exclude Susan and others who escaped Gallifrey, but we're not really sure. Also, the Doctor isn't really a Time Lord but a foundling from somewhere unknown so he really isn't the last Time Lord. The Doctor has a real name, which isn't so secret anymore and it's an adopted name anyhow, not a birth name. The Doctor is scared of monsters and Gods, but is likely immortal given the Doctor has been killed countless times (not that this seems to have traumatised him/her).
Let's face it, canon is completely ruined, and this series is just ridiculous now - a pathetic parody of itself. Perhaps this is why TV shows shouldn't last for 60 years. 😞

I don't get why you all keep watching a show you claim to hate. Maybe just find another show instead of creating enough biomass to send a space station to mondo caroon?
So maybe take your own advice and find a different channel to watch. OR you could just accept the fact that people are going to critique the media that's being put out for them to consume-- especially a series as high profile as Dr. Who-- even if you don't agree with/like the critique.

@@biosaari I disagree. I think we're on course for a peak season, but time will tell and people will have different views on this. Knowing exactly what happened is not necessary and I suspect there are still pay-offs to come in later episodes. I've watched DW for 50 years, I know what 'worst' episodes look like and we are a very long way away from that.

The problem with this episode is that I have no idea what happened *in any of it*. Leave us guessing for certain parts, sure. Don't leave us confused as to what the Hell we just watched - which the Devil's Chord was even worse at.

Many complained that X-Men 97 would be "woke" garbage, and it is woke but they were wrong that be garbage.
With respect, this seems like an incredibly arbitrary barrier for critique. Would it work the same way, say if a show had some stellar first few episodes at the start of a season, and let's say the following episodes in the season took a nosedive; should a content creator or person in general be discouraged in giving their initial thoughts?
Personally I haven't watched X-Men '97, so I have nothing to comment on that, but whether you like it or not, people are going to have their opinions one way or the other.
@@GallifreyanAvenger93 Since RTD always starts with a cheesy comedy episode and slowly starts to get depressing and serious. It happened with Series 2 and Series 4, and this will be the same here.
When I first heard Ncuti was going to be playing the Dr I thought to myself O I liked him in the series sex education this could be really fun, How wrong was I. But It's not his acting skills its the fault of Russell's storylines they are Sh$$. If Ncuti has any sense he would stop with all this calling people racist and homophobic (don't have a go at your fan base pal they are your bread and butter) just because they don't like this version of Dr Groom. Try and distance yourself from future shows. I would even go as far as apologising to your fans.

@@friendlyotaku9525 I'm defo not a fan of these new storylines I am a very old fan of the original Dr Who shows and I watched them all with my 3 children who are all grown up now. 2 of my children are gay and even they say dad this is wrong it has spoilt Dr Who by putting all this woke stuff in. In fact they are annoyed about it more than me lol. As the target audience is families with young children I kinda stick by what I say there is no need for stupid pronoun correcting etc in a family show, let children be children and watch a good sci fi adventure with no grown up themes of any description weather straight, gay, trans, alien. They wanna see Dr who escaping the daleks not some musical trans person correcting someone on their pronouns and putting that into a kids TV program feels like grooming to me. @markpotter8280 Doctor Who has ALWAYS been "woke". And pronouns were discussed in a 70s Jon Pertwee episode so even that isn't a new thing.
