WOOOOOW. THANKS FOR THE INSPIRATION. I have a few cages and one DP "handcuff". Had to dispatch on sight with the handcuff, but now the 5g bucket threw me a "humane" way to transport them. I can cut a 6" hole in the bucket and feed the cuff into it, catch slide and close the bucket so I can transport it somewhere else.

Received my bucket trap yesterday and bought a new home depot bucket. Then discovered the trap is too big to fit into the bucket. So now I'm looking for a bigger bucket. Any suggestions? FYI, the cost of the trap plus S&H to Oregon was $110. It shipped Fed Ex but was delivered by UPS 2 days later than expected. Anxious to get started.

That’s awesome trap
I just wanted to say that I would recommend putting the screws in. The gorilla glue or silicone caulking or adhesive would certainly not hurt, the main thing is you don't want to have some wild animal in there and then you pick it up to go take it somewhere and the thing falls apart next thing you know Grandma sweating bullets while you're trying to convince her in the car that her life is not in danger from the rabid animal with one goal in mind... Getting away from you. 🙃
Need one 55 gal barrel size! Fox n coyote size. Would use legholds but my dogs tend to get caught.

Is the door spring loaded or does it fall by gravity alone? It looks like it would work for the nuisance nutria here in the Willamette Valley, Oregon.

Where can I get this trap?
How often does the bait need to be replced? If it gets wet, as in the live love traps? Tried the bacon bait, and the lard bait but still nothing. Not giving up.
Dry cat or dog food..... trust me, it works! Put a paper plate of it in the back. I don't have this particular trap yet.... looking for a link..... but I have caught 2 raccoons, an opposum, and a skunk just last week....all using dry cat food.

Several times now I've put 2 pcs of bacon in the trap behind the trigger plate. That puts them about 2" from the back of the bucket. Each time the raccoon manages to pull the bait out without tripping the trap. Suggestions?
Shorten the trigger rod so the can't reach around it.
Still no success. In fact now I'm dealing with momma raccoon & her 4 cubs. What might I be doing wrong? Does it make a difference that I don't wear gloves when handling the trap (bucket). How often should I refresh the bait? Bacon? Peanut butter? Cat food? Your Cherry formula?

I had a racoon in my barn. I just threw some moth balls in the attic where he was living and by where he was entering. He found a new home, probably the neighbor's barn.
so mothballs do work then?
I've also seen skunks and raccoons remove them from the structure and carry on with life lol.

Update of 5/12/22 by rotating the trap on the bucket rim it works fine. So I leveled it and it works great. Sorry, I panicked.
Our coons around here too big, they couldn’t fit in a bucket!

Why release them? That's illegal in a lot of states and unethical.

@@NBWildman 100% you're releasing a nuisance animal to another location to be a nuisance for someone else. Which is why I dispatch them all. It's illegal in most states to release them.
@@NBWildman by all means if you catch a unicorn let it go or any endangered species. But raccoons, possums, even feral cats do everyone a favor and stop the madness and put them down.
@@bubbacrabb Exactly. Well meaning people release these critters onto farms not realizing the damage that they do to chicken coops. Foxes, skunks, raccoons, & opossum will wreck havoc on chickens/eggs. Not to mention most are rabies vectors. Once you trap an animal, it may never go in one again and you've created a bigger problem for someone else.
@@srchnfrcj I caught a ground hog the other day and my neighbors were like if you let that thing go you are nuts! It's messed up foundations all around me. Nuisance animals should never be relocated

I bought one flimsy cage one and it’s lasted me 24 years so far.
Check out the prices of your typical TSC live traps now.... they approach $80 in many cases now. Thanks to Inflation Joe. I suppose you can continue using your cheap trap, which almost completely exposes you to racoon claws, skunk squirts, etc..... You must not be completely happy, or you wouldn't be looking at this trap solution. Maybe use your birthday money and buy one.
