How To Make Tofu

- We always assumed making tofu involved weeks of preparation and lots of fancy ingredients or gadgets. But that couldn’t be further from the truth! With some little ol’ soya beans, lemon juice and a DIY tofu press...you’ll be munching down on your very own homemade tofu in no time at all
This is our tried-and-tested recipe for the perfect tofu. Head to the link in our bio to get the full recipe where you’ll find lots of tips and tricks to guide you through the process sovegan.co/tofuu
We’ve also included the ingredients and steps below:
3 cups dried soya beans (550g / 19.5oz)
4 tbsp lemon juice
Add the soya beans to a large mixing bowl and cover with water almost to the top of the bowl. Leave to soak for 6 hours or overnight.
Drain the soya beans and rinse under water. Next blend the soaked beans in 3 litres / 101 fl.oz of water (we usually do this in 3 batches). Then transfer the milk to a nut bag over a large mixing bowl. Squeeze the bag to extract the milk into the mixing bowl. This can take up to 10 mins or until the pulp inside the bag is mostly dry
Transfer the soy milk to a large saucepan over a low-medium heat. Bring the milk to a gentle simmer and cook for 15 minutes, stirring regularly. Use a skimmer or a fine sieve to remove any foam or skin that collects on the surface
Meanwhile combine the lemon juice with 200ml / 6.8 fl.oz of water. After the soy milk has finished simmering, remove from the heat and leave for a couple of minutes to settle. Then stir in roughly a third of the diluted lemon juice. Stir in the remaining diluted lemon juice in two more batches and keep stirring until the soy milk curdles. If the milk doesn’t curdle, add it back to a low heat until the curds form
Use a skimmer or fine sieve to transfer the curds to your chosen press. Then press for a minimum of 15 mins or longer depending on how firm you like your tofu
You can eat the tofu immediately. Alternatively add the tofu to an airtight container and submerge it in water where it will last for up to 5 days in the fridge - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
For anyone who doesn’t really have access to soybeans. I make mine from chickpeas at times. It’s very delicious!
Oh nice. We need a video on this.
@@franzi4913 I don’t create content sadly, but there are many methods people have uploaded on TH-cam. All the best 😊
Chickpeas can be made tofu too?! I never knew this thanks so much!!!
@@johndreigrandheart7485 I was pretty shocked by this too. But the more you know! You're most welcome , take care
Thank you for the heads up, friend 😊
So tofu's basically cottage cheese/paneer made out of soya milk! Got it...
It's like paneer?
@@user-zx2et9lf8y yeah
@@SUPRIYA.7 ohh
@@user-zx2et9lf8y yeah, just the taste isn't as good as paneer.
@@kimyn8408 daman, i expected it to be sweet at first lol
So tofu is basically plant ☘️ based cheese 🧀
Plant based paneer to be exact
Because both paneer and tofu have a difference of being animal and plant based respectively

IT is one of the plants that has the highest level of fighto estrogens or in short term "estrogen" eat this plant almost everyday if you really want to castrate your self. Soy other plants have estrogen almost every plat has estrogen but some have way too much like soy beans and flaxseeds specially. guess what is the plant that has the highest level of estrogen in the whole world you guess it right is FLAX SEEDS. I now discover the mystery why all this dudes in the internet posting videos about soy foods what all of them have in coment you guess it right they all look WEAK BIG WEAK people. now i do not wonder why is rear to see a Chinese or Japanese person with mustaches or a lot hairy features beard in there body you guess it right they use soy or soy beans to be specific in there food culture they used so much soy beans for everything , soy sause, soy tofu, etz. they are basically castrating or basically not castraing them self's because if they were castrated we will not see Japanese and Chinese or Asians in general right now but my whole point is that they are not that MASCULINE or masculine at all.
MY GOD that's the BEST tofu press I've ever seen. I have the expensive Japanese version (which is good) but this DIY version is better as the tubs fit in each other which means if gets pressed evenly. LEGEND! 😀
(I learned to make fresh tofu from soy beans during lockdown when shelves were empty due to manufacturing / delivery issues)
This is great. Can you show, what you do with the rest of the beans?
We dry the pulp in the oven then use it as a flour ✌️
You can make tempeh.
OMG this is so easy !! I've never ate tofu, I'm a vegetarian trying to go vegan but no vegan products in my town, I'll definitely try this recipe ! THANK YOU 💙
Why? Are you lactose intolerant? Why are you trying to give up on milk products and honey?
@@rashmimondol246because they’re vegan! its their choice
You can try the thi soups or spring rolls. No need to go vegan. If it's protein u need organic thinni from trader Joe's. Its hard for me to find protein and I'm vegetarian. If u have any good ideas could u share them with me? Thanks!
@@rashmimondol246becuse dairy is unethical, unsustainable, and unhealthy?
Milk belongs to cows, honey belongs to bees, not slefish humans.
Also, its not lactose intolerance, it's called getting weaned like an adult. You're not a baby cow.
@@MrAlicewonderplemty of reason to go vegan. Vegetarianism is animal abuse. Egg and dairy farming are crueler than meat farming, all egg laying hens amd dairy cows/calves sre hrutally slaughtered when considered unprofitable.
Clean and fresh tofu... I am a tofu lover
I’m not vegan but I love tofu.. didn’t realize how easy it is to make it at home. Definitely gonna try this
Very nice presentation and explanation.
This looks nice and your video is easy to follow.. in northern Nigeria we call it Wara and you can even eat it raw...
Does it taste good?
Really? Wara is made from soyabean milk? Woowww
This isn't wara. Wara is made from cow milk
It's called gbeske in Yoruba land ,wara is made from cow milk

And here I am spending money on tofu press because I no longer want to use a colander and make circle UFO tofu. It never crossed my mind that I can make my own! Thanks for this!
Thank you so much! ❤
The store bought tofu was upsetting my tummy badly. Thank you for making!!!! I'm on it today! 😊
Looks fantastic!
I think you get more nutrition in your tofu if you heat the whole thing, pulp and milk, THEN strain. We make a veggie meat from the leftover pulp, called SOYSAGE. It's steamed or pressure cooked in small tins (leftover cans). I got the recipe many years ago from THE FARM, a self-sustaining vegan community that started in Summertown, TN after Woodstock was over. They did some cookbooks. I still make it, bc it's Soo yummy (tho' I've tweaked it to use much less oil). Even meat eaters luv this stuff! The FARM is no longer there. Last I had contact they were only do book publishing, & that's been a few years. They used to sell soybeans, TVP, tempeh starter, nutritional yeast, & much more.
Cool Info
Thanks. You took what was at the time a very mysterious subject, and made it less so. Thank you.

I'm not vegan but I love tofu just a question though can I use something else for the lemons like any citrus?
You could probably use a vinegar, as long as it is acidic

Can I use citric acid instead of lemon juice
Please share the ratio of beans and water to grind🙏🏼🙏🏼
You can soak the finish product in water to firm up.
This didn't work out for me .I ended up with a pancake batter and not soy milk .i think i screwed up when I used a tea strainer and not cloth to get the milk . Kids learn from me .
I can't use the soy bean batter too .It's too liquidy .
I will be trying to make my homemade Tofu very soon.

How much soybeans for this batch?
Great short. Quick question, can't i use the Pulp also in the tofu, I.e. why not boil the milk + Pulp and skip the first strain?
Yum
Can u just start with soy milk from the shops???
Did you squeeze out the whole lemon, did you add all to the measured water?
How to remove smell from tofu ?
Can I grind the soyabeans to powder, soak and use whenever I need it?
Nice
I'm Asian and i like tofu but never make it and always buy it thanks for the recipe ❤️
You'll probably change your mind. There are a lot of things that can go wrong. This #short is too short for those who want to try it. Search around TH-cam & learn more, or you'll be wasting expensive soymilk that could be drank (is drank a word? lol).
Yes @@TheStaffOfLife there is some info missing in this short for tofu making.
Also: yes, "drank" is a word but it isn't correct in this particular sentence. You should say "that could be drunk." Drunk is often used with the word "have" such as: I could have drunk the milk, but I wasn't thirsty.
Here's an example of how to use drank: the soymilk is gone because he drank it all last week.
Drank is past tense. Drunk is the past participle so it will have a helping verb (usually have/has).
Hope that helps.
Yum yum
How long can you leave in refrigerator or can you freeze it
We love to freeze our tofu! It creates a really spongy texture. Or you can refrigerate it in water for up to a week but we recommend changing the water daily ✌️
Can we use vinegar instead of lemon?
Guys, just throw every bean you have the house into this
Every video above this video was tofu
Ohh... That Container is so nice. What is it called?? Where can I get it??
Is it sour?? With the lemon juice.
Awesome video. Can you add spices to it to give it different flavors?
Definitely! We haven’t tried this but there’s no reason why not
@@SoVegan can I get the full recipe for my niece please and thank you
It is marinated after pressing, usually. **Then can be used in stir-frys, scrambles, casseroles, sandwich spread, etc. Many just use tamari or aminos or soy sauce. But when you pan brown for stir-frys, you can sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds. Also, when you add the sauce to your stir-fry, it picks up the flavors of fresh ginger, the spices, heat, garlic, etc. It's healthy, but very high calorie, so don't eat too often. You'll prob need to ingest more fluids a few hours after enjoying it. It's a concentrated protein & not for small children to eat A LOT...small servings only (but big servings of veggies!). *Suggestions*
Can it be made from soya chunks?
Thank you British Steve-O
Don’t we need to ferment the beans or milk? How to make silken tofu?
