I read east of eden 8 years ago my junior year of high school and loved it. I also reread it about 4 years ago and it held up. If you start to get confused in anyway don’t be afraid to look at the spark notes and reread chapters. Its a dense book no matter how old you are. I was honestly shocked thats the book your sister recommended to you, put a smile on my face. ALSO if you want a small book to read and read get The House on Mango Street. Its a vignette style book, super short, but highly recommend

Here are my favorite thriller books that I've read: Blue Monday by Nicci French, A Simple Act of Violence by R.J. Ellory, Scarpetta by Partricia Cornwell, and The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides ( currently reading ), The Butterfly Garden by Dot Hutchinson.

VERITY is such a good book. I love thriller books and I definitely would recommend a good girls guide to murder. It’s actually a trilogy series but it’s SO GOOD

I actually tried it out even though i havent read since elementary been but ive obsessed with reading since May and every day I get more and more signs that im supposed to be reading ...so today clicking on this video and seeing colleen hoovers book on your bed made me feel light and smiley and then you talked about your sister and her encounter and im even more smiley... My brother's girlfriend is a English major and she LOVES Steinbeck and East of Eden is her favorite book. Apparently she has read it a ton. Her copy has sticky notes from each time she's read it and has notes in the margins. My dad asked the three of us for book recommendations and without hesitation she said East of Eden. When he was listening to the audio book it was like all he would talk about.

i moved abt 8 hours from home last year and i was on my own for about 2 months before my best friend could move in and those early days alone when you know no one in the area are soooo hard. i did a lot of facetime dates with friends and that helped me loads. it’s corny af but it does get easier/better the hard part is just Getting to that part

Not a huge fan of Steinbeck's other work, but East of Eden really is everything! Also for another psychological thriller, I definitely recommend Gone Girl! Such a good mind-fuck!

Another suggestion is A Good Girls Guide to Murder Trilogy! It’s a young adult so not so rated R like Verity. But sooo fun! It’s like your with Pip solving a murder with her! And so many unexpected twists and turns!! So so so good!!

Also, there's a memoir called Crying in H Mart that is about coping with loss and using food as one of the coping mechanisms (its not a thriller haha).
