19:40 Dabi felt his mom and his sister weren't seeing where he was coming from. They just told him to do something else (which they weren't wrong), they didn't understand where he was coming from. He felt they couldn't, so they were useless in his eyes. To be fair to the women there was no way they could. It wasn't their ambition, it was endeavors. Endeavor was realistically the only one who could understand him. Which makes what happened even more sad.
Endeavor was right and wrong. He was right in that Toya had the same weakness as him. But Toya surpassed him by tapping into his hate. Which wouldn't have happened if he'd become a hero.
Agreed. I hate how so many people just stamp Toya off to be a misogynist that hates all women and sees them as worthless because of his frustration with his mom and sister not understanding him, despite him wanting to apologise to them for what he said and the fact that he was just a child that had his entire dream and the sole purpose to be alive ripped away from him in a single moment with no one to truly support and understand him.
The focus on Enji and Toya’s blue eyes when they mistreated Rei adds a layer to her psychological break. When Shoto startled her when she was frantically calling her family she didn’t see her youngest son, she only saw the blue eye of her tormentor, and immediately after she burned him she came to her senses but it was too late. Truly Heartbreaking
What's interesting is that Shoto's scar didn't come from the boiling water but rather Rei trying to cool down the burn with her ice. I'm not actually sure if we have explicit confirmation on that one, but it's a very prevalent explanation in the community.
Something that I always like to bring up is how fitting the title is. This was called “The wrong way to put out a fire” for a reason. It’s honestly a perfect way of looking at what Endeavor did to Touya. Endeavor sparked the fire, and instead of giving it calm and gentle water or something to put it out, he basically poured gasoline and paint thinner on it, and then proceeded to ignore the fire and let it build, not realizing that he was not only the root of the problem but also the primary one making it worse. And by the time he did realize that, it was all just too little too late.
No sorry but I see it totally different. The title is like this because of Dabi. Dabi tried to put out Endeavors fire with his scheme but he failed thus the title The wrong way to put out a fire. Dabi actually made the family stronger since they all bounded together now to take him down and give each other support. Thats what this episode was about and thats why the title was like this. Whenever we see Dabi in this episode he is like: I cant wait for Endeavor to appear in public, I cant wait to see his pathetic face. He certainly didnt expect this outcome.
@@teongreen5254 I’d agree, but the thing is that he pretty much succeeded in destroying the life Endeavor built for himself. Not only that, but Endeavor’s quest for atonement kinda ends at this point since he deserts the family after they all come together. So I wouldn’t say Touya’s plan failed. While the family may have become stronger in a sense, it’s not because Touya failed to put out Endeavor’s fire.
@@natsuotodoroki He wanted to destroy his whole family and he failed doing that. He made them stronger and he basically lit the fire up under them. That was blatantly obvious by the determined looks and voices of them and the end of the hospital scene. And Endevavor doesnt desert his family. I dont know how you came to that conclusion but they showed the flashback of his and Shotos promise to take down Dabi together in one of the last episodes of season 6.
@@teongreen5254 Well, kinda. The only other family member that he wanted to “destroy” was Shoto. The only time he expressed interest in messing with other family members is when it would directly hurt Endeavor. As for Endeavor, yeah, he did desert the family. Just because he changed his mind at the end doesn’t mean that he didn’t spend several months neglecting his responsibility to them. The bit at the end only happened because Shoto had to force him to come back. And avoiding spoilers for the future, Endeavor’s desertion here has pretty big repercussions. So I guess you could say that the family’s fire was ignited, but Endeavor’s was put out. And even then, Touya’s goal was never to put out the family’s “fire.”
@@natsuotodoroki No he didnt desert them. If you forgot about it, but shit was going down at that time. All for one broke out with a bunch of crimninals and he was in a task force with the number 2 and 3 heroes + Deku. So he didnt desert his family. He had a job to do. I dont know if he informed his family about that but even if he didnt his family would be smart enough to know what he was doing after seeing the state of the country. Their father is the number 1 hero after all, they can put 1 and 1 together. He cant play family dad in a crisis. They reconciled in the hospital so they will all understand that.
Touya basically kill himself and die like supernatural phenomenon called spontaneous combustion. There also some subtext of suicide victim too in his story If you rewatch some past episode when Touya death get mentioned, The family mention his death quite in ambiguous way and you can even see it as he committed suicide. Suicide apparently a huge problem in japan and Touya situation also quite similar to those who do it in Japan. Where they go into the forest and after things they wanted not happening (His father to see him training) then they take their own life after it. Another thing is being neglected actually one of major reason in some study that revealed why teenager committed suicide too especially among adoptee who feel replaced after their adopted parent have another child and start playing favorite which quite similar situation with Touya And just like in Horror film he revived and become ghost who haunted the family back
You could say that the fact even the kids feel to blame is testament to this family's good nature. Natsuo feels guilty because he was the one that Touya always confided in and was closest with, so naturally he thinks he could have done more to help him in those moments. Fuyumi feels complicit because she was just scared and kept to herself and yeah tried to just keep up appearances for the sake of not causing any other problems and no one would judge her family. But its true they were just kids though so they couldn't have known any better, so while they shouldn't feel responsible, its only natural that they would. Natsuo does say that "It all started with you, You're the cause" in this ep so they are still of the mindset that it is definitely Endeavour's fault (it absolutely is), but yeah in a way it is true that Endeavour "wasn't the only one who didn't see that child".
What’s especially sad to me is that Natsu and Fuyumi really didn’t do anything wrong. It was too complicated of a situation for even Toya to wrap his head around.
Great episode I swear it makes me emotional every time ;) Touya clearly had mental issues due to many reasons from feeling that his whole purpose of existing is to achieve his father’s goals - not out love - to feeling abandoned when he couldn’t do it! He went through so many emotional stresses which his parents didn’t know how to handle and they just brushed them off and didn’t try enough! Also endeavor making it worse by having natsuo and shouto “to make touya gave up” is so fucked up and sad like it cost him nothing give touya the attention in many different ways not just training! Proves to him that he will love him and care for him even if he couldn’t be a hero! He told him to look outside the world and not to just focus on being a hero - after literally making him feel that was the whole reason of his existence for years - but didn’t reflect that on himself by slowly giving up on his obsession to prove that he really cares! like of course the kid is not gonna listen to you? Touya loved his father so much that i really think if endeavor have forced him to train even harder despite being hurt he would’ve been okay with it cuz he was already doing it 🥲
15:44 A lot of people have had a go at Hawks for being supportive or essentially for not immediately burning Endeavor at the stake considering what they've been through. But what they don't understand is that what Hawks despises more than anything is sloth, the refusal to try to make things better. Hawks watched Endeavor trying, Hawks sees the family here, Hawks sees Shoto doing what he didn't. In a way, Endeavor is almost more of a symbol of hope for Hawks than before - because he shows him that people can change, that they can try to atone, try to make amends, try to do better. Both as a hero and in private, Endeavor has been the opposite of slothful, and he shows that even a horrible person who drove his family into the ground can try to atone, try to do better, try to do what's right.
Hawks likes endeavor because he made a connection with him in his child hood that was one sided. And throughout the entire manga he’s created a version of endeavor in his head where he’s a much bigger man then he really is. Hawks’ parasocial relationship with endeavor is exclusive to him, if it was any other hero he wouldn’t feel similarly
If it makes u feel better the reason Endeavor wasn’t rly focused on his daughter is bc she was born to support her brother and her having a powerful quirk wasn’t the priority Shoto and Natsuo were expressly born to be replacements
Past Endeavor and current Endeavor seems like two completely different people. I wonder if his sins will ever be forgiven or should they even be. The Todoroki is such a wonderful family, despite the hardships they have been through. You just have to admire and adore him
One of the most well written characters in MHA. It gets so grey. On one hand he used to be a abusive husband and a negligent father. But now he is also a hero who puts his life on the line to protect innocent civilians.
By "him" you mean "them" right? Just curious. I will say, in hindsight, his past and present selves feeling so different does partially speak to how inconsistently he's written.
I don't think he aims for them to be forgiven or forgotten. He wants to atone for them, face them and resolve them the best he can and continue for a better future. Scars will always be present because the past can't he erased but you can make the future better and it's up to the others to decide if they'll give him the dignity and honor to do so, which I think they will
I thought it was Rei who used her quirk? And That children don’t get them until like around 4 years old or something. Ik it showed he used it a little with frozen snot bubble does that mean he was able to control it already??
18:40 Okay, when this chapter came out there was no clear indication that Enji struck his wife. And this episode only came out months ago. Cut us some slack 😅 We just wanted to get the point across that Rei suffered mostly from psychological abuse, which is why she burned Shoto
First off the sports festival flashback had a *slap* effect…..and so did the anime….this was common knowledge literally ages ago. And in the manga the panel of rei on the floor is very obviously evidence that endeavor struck her….endeavor put his hands on rei people denied it only because they were endeavor fans and refused to acknowledge all of his horrible actions because for some reason ur only allowed to like good characters and not bad people. Cause that’s totally normal
The slap wasnt abuse. It was more of a punishment because he saw his burned child and his wife didnt take care of him. Abuse is abusing someone for no reason or to assert dominance over someone. He didnt slap his wife cause he wanted to abuse her. That was not the reason. Love for his child was the cause for this happening. The mother did a similar thing just much much worse. She burned her child because of a feeling of hate when she saw his gaze. He slapped her cause of a feeling of love, she burned him cause of a feeling of hate. Two strong emotions. Now you can decide whats worse and whats really abuse...
Even if there’s some dispute from fans about Endeavor hitting Rei in the manga, I never get why fans dispute it in the anime. During the tournament flashback, he clearly struck her and punched Shoto in the stomach so hard he threw up. I don’t know why people try to say Endeavor was only emotionally/psychologically abusive, when that clearly wasn’t the case for the show.
I think the question is whether this was a constant thing. The abuse. And taken out of context it would appear so, but now we know why he was angry. I think he trained Shoto hard, but I think this is the first time he was violent with them. And I think it was actually out of fear for Toya. Since he knew what would happen.
Toya was a victim of Rei's neglect just as much as he was of Endeavor's. Also I feel like people don't understand the significance of Rei ending up where she did. She could have gone to prison for quite a while for what she did to Shoto. While he undoubtedly wanted the whole thing kept quiet, by allowing her to check in to a mental hospital he protected her from the legal consequences of what happened, and also protected her reputation by allowing people to assume (like Hawks did) for years that he was the one who had scarred Shoto. Despite the crude way he told Shoto where she was after the incident, she was not involuntarily committed.
@@akhandtripathi3836 like what? she had the chance to run away or stay she chose to have the first and second baby with him and lets not forget she's grown adult that had the power to stop this ( she could of done a lot except ignore the situation and try not to move on and not acknowledge dabi's pain)
@@perfectly.naturalTell me what power does she have against the second most powerfull hero, he is very rich compared to her coming from a poor a family, his quirk is powerful and he measures more than 7 feet tall while she’s petite and have a weak condition. She choosen to stay and have more babies because at first he wasn’t that abusive towards her, it came later, i agree that she had a part to play in the toya situation but beside that she was also a victim
The title here fits really well - the wrong way to put out a fire. Endeavor could come up - probably also warped by his own obsession - with no other solution to make Touya stop hurting himself than to try for more children until they had one that could fulfill his ambition which would show Touya that he could never do it and discourage him. Rei refused at first, but because she couldn't come up with anything better, she agreed in the end. The proper way would have been to be a father for Touya. To see him, to show pride in him, affection, to dedicate time to him despite him not being able to fulfill your ambition. The problem is that Touya already knew what Endeavor's goal was, but maybe, just maybe it would have still been enough, to make him feel seen, to make him feel valued even without being able to fulfill his fathers obsessive ambition. That neglect is Endeavor's sin, more than anything else. Btw., just in case you get comments like these: Some people believe or try to spin the situation into Enji raping Rei for the children, and the anime's depiction (which is slightly different from the manga's regarding details) doesn't help. But it has been made VERY clear by the author that rape was not involved, and that Rei did consent. Even without the author going such lengths to counteract those accusations, looking at the story with the slightest bit of logical thinking should also confirm that rape was absolutely not involved here. It's just people either not understanding or wanting to make a bad situation worse. But Endeavor's sins are heavy enough as it is, no need to fabricate something that actively works against the story. The story does such a good job in portraying Endeavor going more and more insane just over the course of those few flashbacks. From the Endeavor who - despite his ambition - had a normal relationship with Rei, even showed care, the Endeavor who showed fatherly pride and affection for his son to the Endeavor at his absolute worst, when he hit Rei and Sekoto Peak happened. It also shows the very different experiences the children had. Which also serves as a basis for how differently they deal with the experience. Fuyumi, for example, wants them to be a family again. Because Fuyumi actually experienced that, a working, somewhat normal family, even if Endeavor didn't pay much attention to her. And something I had forgotten about until now: That Endeavor separating Shoto from the others wasn't something born entirely of his obsession and because he thought the other "pieces" would distract him, but something that was born out of Touya trying to kill Shoto. It also shows how (despite, and I want to reiterate that here, Endeavor being the mad man in the family) the Touya situation aided him going more and more insane. Violence is never okay. But just the feeling, the frustration that your partner didn't stop your child from hurting itself, putting the blame on them - that's a very understandable feeling, for many if not most for us. It's not fair of course, but it's natural. Think about it - if you are at work and your partner goes to the park with your child, which then falls off the bars and hurts itself, chances are you will be furious at your partner and direct your worries and your frustration at them. Don't misunderstand me, this isn't me trying to defend Endeavor. It's praise for the realism in that part of the story. The only unrealistic parts here are how Endeavor is MUCH BETTER than your average real life domestic abuser because/and how much he was able to change.
4:28 prime example of dub getting the w, in the dub she said "youre not the only one who overlooked our child". Much clearer than "see that child" even tho they both convey the same point, butthats what she meant. Endeavor wasnt the only one who overlooked toya and led him down the path to be dabi
Comparing sub and dub, I’m in the minority, but I think the dub is just better and less awkward consistently. Jeanist’s joke about eavesdropping is just awkward in the sub and works in the dub. I maintain that anime subs are generally no more authentic than dubs- just more formal and stiff. There are times when subs are better but that’s usually when the English voice acting is beyond annoying (Demon Slayer, Naruto, Black Clover).
@Arizona-ex5yt g like I won't lie, tanjiro sounds like a bitch in the sub abs inosuke sounds like he play too much call of duty and curses out his Parents, but at the same time I enjoy the dub for one simple fact. I speak English so it's easier to understand when English speaking people are delivering the dialogue. No hate on the sub cyz alot of shows and reaction videos I watch are sub" when shit comes out for the first time it's usually in sub, so I'm familiar w both and appreciate both u feel me
13:13 he didn’t kinda brush it off. his idea was that “after [he] killed Toya”all he could of was focus on Shoto to make it so Toya’s death would not go in vain necessarily. 17:08 he isn’t exposing Deku, he just finally put two and two together. Deku used a private line and told Endeavor that Shigaraki was after him. Shiggy was after One for All. Deku was able to lure Shigaraki over. Simple.
This episode pretty much solidified my love for Natsu, Fuyumi, and Rei as characters. Despite how little screentime they get, they've pretty much proven how strong they are just by being here because they ultimately care for each other that much. Like I said before, the Todoroki family plotline is easily the most engaging side story in my hero. Minus Enji, I would also say it's the best-written.
I like the episodes title "the wrong way to put out a fire" endeavor lit a fire under toya, and when he found out he wasnt able to, he just let the fire grow not knowing how to put it out and leaving it to rei to handle it. Rei not knowing to do it either just adding fuel to the fire burning her and the other kids. Endeavors anger and frustration of not knowing what to do was pointed at rei, lighting another hateful fire under shoto leading everyone to turn to ash. But hopefully under all that ash something new and healthy grows.
Endeavor is such an interesting character because on the one hand at this point he's still obsessing over passing All Might but he also still is able to recognize that Toya has his same obsessive streak and while wrong came to the conclusion that the only way to get toya to stop and be safe is he had to cut him off cold turkey otherwise he'd keep thinking that there was a chance that he'd be able to keep training and be a hero
There is another reason why Endeavor couldn't find Toya in the fire.......more will be explained in the later episodes. There are levels to Endeavor's obsession. For it primarily stems from constantly being compared to All might. He got to number 2 at age 20. (Enji is 45 years old) Normally heroes are greeted with a warm welcome when they arrive to save the day. If you look closely, every time Endeavor arrives to help, he is always asked by civilians "What are you doing here?" as if they didn't want him to be there. This man was also super competitive and has some deep insecurities that have not been addressed until later...... Imagine having to hear that for 25 years. After all the things he accomplished, he would never be able to catch up to All Might. Only to look at his back. (This is what was referring to during the Kamino incident.) All Might has also addressed the constant comparisons when they spoke. Unfortunately, that was a conversation that needed to be had years prior. Ultimately Endeavor wants the same thing Toya does. The only difference is that Endeavor seeks the attention of the people and Toya was seeking the attention of his father......Oh the irony.......This is why he said in his speech when he became #1 "Just watch me." It hits different.
What annoys me most about the Endeavor stans is that they refuse to acknowledge what abuse is. So that scene in the manga doesn't have a "smack" but you see Rei on the floor as Endeavor yells at her over Shotos screams. The subtext is so clear. Also, not all abuse is physical. The amount of mental trauma, neglect, and fear he put in his family through are all categorized as abuse. I see nothing wrong with people liking him as a character, but to ignore all that is ridiculous. Hes a very well written character with great development. Honestly i was expecting him to be killed off when that Nomu attacked him just because i thought that would be an easy out for the mangaka. Its really hard to make a character like that be redeemed without a selfless death being the outcome. Who knows what will happen. But so far the mangaka has done extremely well with Endeavor and im honestly excited to see how his relationships turn out.
One of the most well written characters in MHA. It gets so grey. On one hand he used to be a abusive husband and a negligent father. But now he is also a hero who puts his life on the line to protect innocent civilians. As a person he has atoned. Especially if you read the manga.
You are missing completly the point that his father did stop toya from training, so that he is not burning himself anymore because he loved him. And he denied him his fater as he only could show him the hero path, which toya could NOT go as he would burn himself. He did this all for love for his son.
I don't think you can really blame them for "blurting out" about "one for all." They're all hearing about it for the first time, shigaraki just wrecked everyone and is after deku, not necessarily a situation where deku and all might (and Bakugo) can just have their little secret together without involving other heroes now. Plus, the secret doesn't even matter when All For One/shigaraki already know that deku has it, the original intention of keeping the power secret. We're in doomsday now, this fight clearly can't be won alone using OFA
I just find it interesting how shoto, hawks and Davi are all Capricorns and how they’re family dynamic pretty much shaped their entire life. Shoto was heavy pressured and was going to the same path as Dabi but he was saved by izuku(a cancer) and now he wants to bring stability to his life Dabi was heavily pressured as well and was thriving in it but his physical circumstances didn’t allow him to thrive the way he should’ve and now he’s just lost in chaos and revenge And hawks had heavy family issues and didn’t want to be responsible for them anymore so he chose freedom but he lost a grounded part of himself because of said decision
Dude he tried to kill his little Brother, yes endeavor wants to surpass all might, sometimes mental illness just needs a different approach, u kan tell he's fixated on something, But I wouldn't say endeavor is a good dad either, But if he let the kids play they would end up hating little todoroki
Yeah, the whole Todoroki family situation is just a trainwreck, plain and simple. Really, what they need most at this point is a good therapist on hand, lol (but seriously, that's _exactly_ what they could use now).
In defense of being one of those who said that we never saw Endeavor physically abuse his wife, when we were originally hearing and seeing the Todoroki family drama, from Shoto’s perspective, he mentions that his father put his mother in the hospital, and everyone assumed that he’d physically harmed her, despite Shoto or the show clearing up that it was a mental facility. While there was definitely abuse happening, I don’t recall anything in the manga or the show up until this point that showed anything physical. Shoto never says it directly that he knew his dad was physically harming his mom. Even the scene where he hits Rei this episode is one I don’t remember the manga ever depicting it like that. I only remember her crying on the floor while Endeavor yelled at her, but I can admit that I don’t thoroughly go back and analyze every little bit of each chapter. I’m not trying to defend Endeavor’s actions or inactions. I’m not even trying to say that it’s wrong to assume. I simply wanted to point out that we hadn’t gotten everything properly, even at this point.
You could have saved yourself the trouble by going back to the chapter in the sports festival before making this comment. There’s a *slap effect* in that scene which coincides with the anime endeavor slapping rei offscreen. So yea
I think you watched the show with closed eyes and ears, during the sport festival we heard Endeavor slap Rei and then Shoto told his mom that he wanted his dad to stop « bullying » his mom and we know that bullying is something that is repeated multiples times in a long period of time so yes it is very implied that he was physically abusive and now we have another proof of his physical abuse. There's no reason to assume that literally everyone in the family (including Endeavor!) is somehow reading this situation wrong. Nor is there any reason to believe that only the few minutes of abuse they've shown up to this point are the only instances that ever happened. This went on for years, obviously they're not going to be able to show every hit and insult.
I think it's unfair to assume that Endeavor was being a misogynist just because Toya was. Endeavor and Rei actually had a good relationship and was pretty happy along with Toya for a little while. While it was a quirk marriage, they also respected each other (at first). He also didn't purposefully neglect Toya, he just felt like showing him more attention would fuel his desire to train more (I feel like that part was lost in translation). It of course had the adverse effect, because that just made Toya keep training behind their backs. When Toya started thinking "misogynistic" thoughts, Endeavor was already absent. Then again, he could've still heard that Endeavor calls Rei useless everytime they fight. I don't think Endeavor actually thinks "women are useless", but feels like Rei was for not being able to stop Toya from training. Endeavor is a great hero but he just wasn't cut out to be a parent. Some people needs to stay single so they can contribute to society better, IMO.
Unfortunately, the world we live in currently classifies anything a man does or says that negatively affects a woman as misogyny. The ladies even questioned whether Rei could have refused the marriage even though it is stated clearly in the anime. Endeavor was not a good parent that is crystal clear, however, he still loved his family and cared about them, even though he cared about his goal more.
I wouldn't say that Rei and Toya's relationship with Enji was inherently good beforehand. Rei was clearly just trying to make the best of her situation, and Enji and Toya's relationship was questionable to say the least, since Enji was exclusively spending time with Toya for training purposes. (Also, to add to the discussion here, it’s later confirmed in the manga that Rei basically couldn’t have said no or else she would have probably been disowned by her family).
@@Steve-ez8xt No, _Endeavor_ says in his narration she could have refused. That doesn't mean that Rei actually felt like she was in a position to refuse the marriage.
@@You-Tube-n5k the fact that Rei was very receptive of Endeavors efforts to atone means she has a point of reference for what Endeavor was like before, a side of him his kids never saw unfortunately. In the manga, I believe it was also Rei who suggested to have more kids and they did have Fuyumi even before they found out Toya's problem with his quirk. What basically led to them falling apart was that none of them knew how to handle Toya and they continued to blame each other, which of course escalated and led to her abuse. I think from here on out is when Endeavor really starts to become irredeemable for me (even though he's one of my favorite characters).
THIS is why Shoto's mom had her breakdown. And when she poured the water on his face, she was seeing, in her mind's eye, Touya, and was puring the water to put out the fire.
It is abuse alright. The first scenes that they showed Enji hitting Rei could be interpreted as accidental since he seems like pushing her away (to continue training Shoto) by "accidentally" backhanding her. But the scene in these episode pretty much showed that he did hit her intentionally. So we could pretty much tell that Enji could hit Rei at these kinds of arguments. And even if we don't count the physical part of abuse, the mental/psychological abuse in this house especially for Rei is just awful. She was being the victim of both Enji and Toya at the time.
Toya could've learned the hating the women of the family himself, yes Endeavor was bad but Toya probably thought that the reason his dad does not train him or see him is his moms fault for making his body weak against fire
I don't see that Endaveour was abusive or hated women. Only that one time he struck his wife because Toya was training. And he really did that because he feared for Toya's life. I think people are inferring, but I'd say Endevour was just cut off emotionally.
@@Arizona-ex5yt your right it was probably used to make him look chill and not a bad dad lol... animators really want viewers to feel kinda bad for him huh
I still wonder what happened to Toya after the fire. Did he crawl away or get swept away in the river? Did someone rescue/kidnap him? He lost some of jawbone so he obviously had to get some sort of reconstructive surgery. Was he in a coma or had some sort of amnesia? It seems like Endeavor would have checked local hospitals for a recently admitted burned child so if he didn’t end up in the hospital, where did he end up?
I said I was done with this if you did this and you have gone and done it. Toya is HURTING HIMSELF BY USING HIS QUIRK. His Father knows that HE IS THE REASON WHY TOYA IS DOING WHAT HE'S DOING. So he tries to DISTANCE HIMSELF FROM HIS SON TO TRY AND PROTECT HIM FROM HURTING HIMSELF. And he tells his wife TO RAISE HIS SON TO BE A GOOD MAN AND SHE JUST STANDS THERE AND DOES NOTHING. This whole situation is based on two things, Endeavour not just taking Toya to the side and begging him to be himself rather than a hero because he doesn't want to have his son die and Rei not doing the same thing. Toya thinks THEY BOTH HATE HIM FOR NOT BEING THE PERFECT QUIRK AS THEY WANTED. AND WITH THAT THOUGHT, HE THOUGHT REPEATEDLY TRIED TO PROVE THAT HE WAS THE PERFECT QUIRK AND NEARLY DIES AS A RESULT. YES. Enri (Endeavour) is in the wrong and always was for trying to make a future better All Might to live through, but this wasn't all his fault, it was a family struggling with rebellious young people not listening to their parents and pushing at boundaries. The lengths you've either gone to or are too stupid to understand in this situation scares the ever living shit out of me, this is incredibly basic information that is right there in front of you and you're either willfully ignoring it or far too stupid to catch it and you should be worried about that. Toya hurts himself using his Quirk > His Father says "stop doing that" > they have second child who is more like the Mother > They have third child who is even more like the Mother > They have Fourth child who is seemingly the image that Enri wanted > TOYA TRIES TO KILL SHOTO IN A FIT OF RAGE AND ENRI ISOLATES HIM AFTERWARDS OVER FEAR OF THE SAME HAPPENING > Toya continues to hurt himself and train his Quirk getting stronger and stronger while hurting himself more and more > His Father keeps trying to stop him > His Mother keeps trying to stop him > He nearly dies when his Quirk Evolves and the family falls apart as ALL OF THEM THINK THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR TOYAS DEATH AS EACH DIDNT DO ENOUGH TO SHOW THEY LOVED TOYA AS HE WAS. You see it, when Toya talks to his little Brother, the Brother distracts him and tells him to go talk to others, his Mother tries to tell him to not do something in the worst way possible and Toya tries to hurt her as a result and from that Rei is terrified of Toya and his eyes that look like Enri's and she lashes out at the only other eye that looks like it, Shoto. It's all there, it's a family falling apart as all of them aren't telling each other the one thing they need to hear from each other. "I love you" THATS IT! But no, "Endeavour's the bad guy, he hurt his family he brushed it off." fucking stupid ass people.
Bro is the tightest endeavour dik rider I have seen in a while Rei is constantly being tortured and raped even when she always tries her best Endeavour neglected Toya to focus on his better subject (shoto) He deserves all the sht dabi has stored for him
you guys really understood what was happening and how it was still abuse towards dabi bc so many people act like bc he didnt hit him and didnt want him to burn himself, it wasnt super bad like nah
I think they meant he wasn’t abusive at first cause remember endeavor was happy with just the first two kids since touya had potential so I think endeavor was happy then the news came about how he couldn’t use the quirk and it was started spiraling down. That’s least how I interpreted it
@@wkadaliehe also hit her when she tried to defend shoto saying he is only 5 yrs old She saw her son get overly trained and abused every single day There are also 2 scenes of him looking furiously on her when wanting new son to surpass all might (given how scared she looked those time it might as well be called rape) He also put all the responsibility of Toya being burned on her You are really underestimating the abuse she suffered that she went insane
I dont think he was a misogynist he was a kid he got that from his mother not doing a thing to help him when he needed her and when the daughter sad to move on dabi projected his image of his mother on to her when he went to his sister for help.
The flowers rei brought at the hospital were a gift from endeavor cause he couldn’t visit her when she was hospitalized and she only told him once that those were her favorites and he remembered years later I find it really cool idk about y’all
He knows that Rei's family basically sold her and he knows that they kept having kids because his father wanted a child with both quirks. He grew up seeing that his mom had no real power in the household.
ok, why is wanting to be the strongest so wrong? he literally uses it to the best possible outcome, he was gonna do the same with his children Allmight is a literal cheat code, if it wasn't for the OP power that is OFA, Endeavor would be number 1, and it's not even close to the next spot in the ranking, he was miles ahead of 3rd place, and how do you think that happened? he saved countless lives, it was always impossible to ever reach number 1 while Allmight was still working, he just didn't know that He wasn't always "abusive", before Toya became uncontrollable, the Todorokis were happy. And I still don't think he was abusive... he had an abusive action, in a burst of rage, once the reason for that was that he saw his son full of burns, of course he couldn't channel the rage towards the kid, so he let it out towards Rey, who he told to take care of Toya. Obviously he shouldn't have done that and he also should have been more present but the truth is that neither him nor Rey were good parents Endeavor was always busy with work, aka saving people so he couldn't be home very often and when he was, he would be training with Shoto, that's why he put Rery in charge of Toya and the other kids Enji isn't a bad person, he never was he didn't know how to be a father and he didn't know how to communicate and he also had some anger problems, but that's about it
beating the shit out of your 5 year old and not allowing him to be a normal fucking kid because you're obsessed with being number 1 is objectively wrong and fucked up . enji is a bad person, he put his own narcissistic, egotistical desires above the needs of his family
One thing that I think you are being too harsh about, is Endeavor "abandoning" his son. He did a lot of fucked up shit that can be criticized, but he definitely didn't toss Touya aside because he was "useless" to him. Endeavor had every intention of training him, despite him not being like he envisioned him to be. He only stopped once they realized, that his own quirk was hurting him. Him no longer wanting his son to be a hero, is rooted in him not wanting Touya to hurt himself. He tried talking to Touya, but he wouldn't stop, which then caused Endeavor to make the unfortunate mental gymnastics, that the only way to make him stop, is to "replace" him. In his mind, that was the only way to protect him. What he did wrong is not taking the time to fully understand him, but I think for less selfish reasons.
Please stop putting white stuff in the middle of the coach, it makes the video much harder to watch as you already not showing the video full, just with background, this white stuff makes the video so much harder to see as it is always shown over the pictures of the episode.
you know what I thought about with endeavor and his wife the way he looks at her man those eyes look like a man who’s about sexually harass his wife, not in romance but trying to create a perfect heir. Yeah I can see why Todoroki and his siblings really hate him throughout all his angrily temper worst anime father. (but I let whatever your opinions are)
Rei was a enabler of endeavour obsession. Thats why toya said the women are useless. And fuyumi doesn't understand toya was groomed into this and felt replaced.
W comment
Pretty much
Endeavor was right and wrong. He was right in that Toya had the same weakness as him. But Toya surpassed him by tapping into his hate. Which wouldn't have happened if he'd become a hero.
@@wkadalie well, he also overcame that weakness by numbing his feeling emotionally, physically, and figuratively! Great character
I'm not actually sure if we have explicit confirmation on that one, but it's a very prevalent explanation in the community.

chapter 249
@@natsuotodoroki
He wanted to destroy his whole family and he failed doing that.
@@natsuotodoroki
No he didnt desert them.
There also some subtext of suicide victim too in his story
If you rewatch some past episode when Touya death get mentioned, The family mention his death quite in ambiguous way and you can even see it as he committed suicide. Suicide apparently a huge problem in japan and Touya situation also quite similar to those who do it in Japan. Where they go into the forest and after things they wanted not happening (His father to see him training) then they take their own life after it. Another thing is being neglected actually one of major reason in some study that revealed why teenager committed suicide too especially among adoptee who feel replaced after their adopted parent have another child and start playing favorite which quite similar situation with Touya
And just like in Horror film he revived and become ghost who haunted the family back
Omg that's amazing, I mean it's not but I never realized that
You could say that the fact even the kids feel to blame is testament to this family's good nature.
Great episode I swear it makes me emotional every time ;)
Touya clearly had mental issues due to many reasons from feeling that his whole purpose of existing is to achieve his father’s goals - not out love - to feeling abandoned when he couldn’t do it!
@@luisfraga4759 Yes and no.
*Hawks sees Shoto doing what he didn't.*

@@luisfraga4759 Tell me you don't know the character without telling me you don't know the character
If it makes u feel better the reason Endeavor wasn’t rly focused on his daughter is bc she was born to support her brother and her having a powerful quirk wasn’t the priority
Shoto and Natsuo were expressly born to be replacements
That also makes sence for another reason why Fuyumi is the one trying to keep the Family together
Past Endeavor and current Endeavor seems like two completely different people. I wonder if his sins will ever be forgiven or should they even be. The Todoroki is such a wonderful family, despite the hardships they have been through. You just have to admire and adore him
Atonement not forgiveness is more I think what they're going for

By "him" you mean "them" right? Just curious.
I will say, in hindsight, his past and present selves feeling so different does partially speak to how inconsistently he's written.
I don't think he aims for them to be forgiven or forgotten. He wants to atone for them, face them and resolve them the best he can and continue for a better future. Scars will always be present because the past can't he erased but you can make the future better and it's up to the others to decide if they'll give him the dignity and honor to do so, which I think they will
Baby Shoto protecting his mother is just...😢🥹🥺. That boy has been the greatest since the moment he was born
I actually think the chapter made it pretty clear. They had a sound effect to my memory.
Yeah, it was kinda hard to tell in the manga.
@@You-Tube-n5k You right, it was in sports festival flashback
Rei is a way bigger victims than Toya or Shoto

@Arizona-ex5yt g like I won't lie, tanjiro sounds like a bitch in the sub abs inosuke sounds like he play too much call of duty and curses out his
Parents, but at the same time I enjoy the dub for one simple fact. I speak English so it's easier to understand when English speaking people are delivering the dialogue. No hate on the sub cyz alot of shows and reaction videos I watch are sub" when shit comes out for the first time it's usually in sub, so I'm familiar w both and appreciate both u feel me
Dub is never getting the w cause the dub is never canon.
Yoooo Gundam Build Fighters pfp‼️‼️
He should have showed him a new path with equal love as he did the first one but instead he neglected him
Best Jeanist using Bakugo's full hero name always cracks me up
Yeah, it's like, we can't just call him "Dynamight." We have to throw in all the other stuff at the beginning 😅
Shoto was heavy pressured and was going to the same path as Dabi but he was saved by izuku(a cancer) and now he wants to bring stability to his life
Dabi was heavily pressured as well and was thriving in it but his physical circumstances didn’t allow him to thrive the way he should’ve and now he’s just lost in chaos and revenge
And hawks had heavy family issues and didn’t want to be responsible for them anymore so he chose freedom but he lost a grounded part of himself because of said decision
Dude he tried to kill his little Brother, yes endeavor wants to surpass all might, sometimes mental illness just needs a different approach, u kan tell he's fixated on something, But I wouldn't say endeavor is a good dad either, But if he let the kids play they would end up hating little todoroki
He didn't throw him to the side,he didn't want toya to get hurt, if he didn't care about him why else would he tell him to stop

@@RectPropagation True. Endeavor would have allowed Rei to refuse but she just couldn't for the sake of her family.
Bro this episode was so heavy I remember I had to take a nap after I watched for the first time
THIS is why Shoto's mom had her breakdown. And when she poured the water on his face, she was seeing, in her mind's eye, Touya, and was puring the water to put out the fire.
There is still part of the story remaining. Toya becoming Dabi.
It's one of the saddest back stories 😢
this season is a lot of Endeavor studying which i enjoy
It is abuse alright. The first scenes that they showed Enji hitting Rei could be interpreted as accidental since he seems like pushing her away (to continue training Shoto) by "accidentally" backhanding her. But the scene in these episode pretty much showed that he did hit her intentionally. So we could pretty much tell that Enji could hit Rei at these kinds of arguments.
And even if we don't count the physical part of abuse, the mental/psychological abuse in this house especially for Rei is just awful. She was being the victim of both Enji and Toya at the time.
@@teongreen5254 endeavour was way more responsible for the burn the Rei
@@akhandtripathi3836
She inflicted the burn on him actively even though she was responsible for protecting him. So definitely no.
@@wkadaliehe beated her only a few times but he mentally scarred her for life
@@akhandtripathi3836 I've wondered if Toya's mental insanity was genetic. That he got it from his mother.
funny how in endeavor's version he sees himself as mellow guy when in the eyes of his family and other people his very arrogant and fearsome guy...
I’m not sure if his necktie with the flames is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen or the most awesome thing.😂
@@Arizona-ex5yt your right it was probably used to make him look chill and not a bad dad lol... animators really want viewers to feel kinda bad for him huh
This episode was really hard to watch…
I still wonder what happened to Toya after the fire. Did he crawl away or get swept away in the river? Did someone rescue/kidnap him? He lost some of jawbone so he obviously had to get some sort of reconstructive surgery. Was he in a coma or had some sort of amnesia? It seems like Endeavor would have checked local hospitals for a recently admitted burned child so if he didn’t end up in the hospital, where did he end up?
it does get addressed, that much can be said without too many spoilers, if i had to guess it would be about episode 150-160ish
It's addressed :) We'll have to wait for Season 7 for it to be animated is all.
I LOVE THE REACT PACK!
Same. I wish I could support their channel but I don't have enough money for that, which sucks.
@@You-Tube-n5k I getcha, but in a way you already are by watching the content they create, liking, subscribing and commenting.
"I love you"
THATS IT!
But no, "Endeavour's the bad guy, he hurt his family he brushed it off." fucking stupid ass people.
Finally someone who gets it
Bro is the tightest endeavour dik rider I have seen in a while
Rei is constantly being tortured and raped even when she always tries her best
Endeavour neglected Toya to focus on his better subject (shoto)
He deserves all the sht dabi has stored for him
Reverting the big bad decay boy into a baby would be a very King's Quest VII ending to pull. Oh and the dog too.
you guys really understood what was happening and how it was still abuse towards dabi bc so many people act like bc he didnt hit him and didnt want him to burn himself, it wasnt super bad like nah
I think they meant he wasn’t abusive at first cause remember endeavor was happy with just the first two kids since touya had potential so I think endeavor was happy then the news came about how he couldn’t use the quirk and it was started spiraling down. That’s least how I interpreted it
I could be wrong, but it seemed like that was the only time he hit her, when he found out Toya was training. Endevour was scared, that Toya would die.
@@wkadaliehe also hit her when she tried to defend shoto saying he is only 5 yrs old
She saw her son get overly trained and abused every single day
There are also 2 scenes of him looking furiously on her when wanting new son to surpass all might (given how scared she looked those time it might as well be called rape)
He also put all the responsibility of Toya being burned on her
You are really underestimating the abuse she suffered that she went insane
Are you guys going to watch the World Heroes Mission movie any time soon?
For the record reactpack im fine with abusive misogynist abandoning Endeavor.
I´VE BEING WAITING FOR THIS REACTION.LETS GOOOO
I dont think he was a misogynist he was a kid he got that from his mother not doing a thing to help him when he needed her and when the daughter sad to move on dabi projected his image of his mother on to her when he went to his sister for help.
I like Toya but dabi can be taken or left considering ones moral compass or husbando standards
The flowers rei brought at the hospital were a gift from endeavor cause he couldn’t visit her when she was hospitalized and she only told him once that those were her favorites and he remembered years later I find it really cool idk about y’all
Yeah im not sure where Toya’s misogynist side came from tho. Either way, Endeavor was the biggest reason for this
He knows that Rei's family basically sold her and he knows that they kept having kids because his father wanted a child with both quirks. He grew up seeing that his mom had no real power in the household.
@@RectPropagation Ahhhh okay, got it
@@RectPropagationit was stated that Rei wanted more children as well
18:43 you can literally see the snot running down Sam nose reflecting in the light 🫢
ok, why is wanting to be the strongest so wrong? he literally uses it to the best possible outcome, he was gonna do the same with his children
Allmight is a literal cheat code, if it wasn't for the OP power that is OFA, Endeavor would be number 1, and it's not even close to the next spot in the ranking, he was miles ahead of 3rd place, and how do you think that happened?
he saved countless lives, it was always impossible to ever reach number 1 while Allmight was still working, he just didn't know that
He wasn't always "abusive", before Toya became uncontrollable, the Todorokis were happy.
And I still don't think he was abusive...
he had an abusive action, in a burst of rage, once
the reason for that was that he saw his son full of burns, of course he couldn't channel the rage towards the kid, so he let it out towards Rey, who he told to take care of Toya. Obviously he shouldn't have done that and he also should have been more present but the truth is that neither him nor Rey were good parents
Endeavor was always busy with work, aka saving people so he couldn't be home very often and when he was, he would be training with Shoto, that's why he put Rery in charge of Toya and the other kids
Enji isn't a bad person, he never was
he didn't know how to be a father and he didn't know how to communicate and he also had some anger problems, but that's about it
beating the shit out of your 5 year old and not allowing him to be a normal fucking kid because you're obsessed with being number 1 is objectively wrong and fucked up . enji is a bad person, he put his own narcissistic, egotistical desires above the needs of his family
I love you so much girls, God bless you, you're cool people, keep being so awesome
19:57 Obviously... 🙄
'He tried talking to Toya' you dropped this pretty lightly here
He just told Toya to do something else
I Baaaaannnnnn (I Burn!)

Noice
you know what I thought about with endeavor and his wife the way he looks at her man those eyes look like a man who’s about sexually harass his wife, not in romance but trying to create a perfect heir. Yeah I can see why Todoroki and his siblings really hate him throughout all his angrily temper worst anime father. (but I let whatever your opinions are)
'Worst anime father'
He isn't even the worst mha father
Rei was a enabler of endeavour obsession. Thats why toya said the women are useless. And fuyumi doesn't understand toya was groomed into this and felt replaced.
