  • Bob Pellerin (CTOBOB) selected and shows a 50W portable solar panel that can recharge a 12V battery.
If you rely on 12v batteries to power a boat or off-grid devices you’ll enjoy the lightweight solutions available at online retailers.
Our build uses a “flexible” 50Watt solar panel, a 20A controller and a quick connect plug for easy connection and disconnection to the battery.
    Parts used:
    ►Renogy 50 Watt Solar Panel: amzn.to/3BXMbIW
    ►Renogy PWM Charge Controller: amzn.to/3C13IzE
    ►Renogy AK-10FT-10 One Pair of 10Ft: amzn.to/3zYZOH9
    ►Meiyangjx SAE Connector: amzn.to/3l3BoWI
►3.2FT Clamps to SAE Connector: amzn.to/3tuXIwe

I did the same for my golf cart. The 12v battery handles all my accessories leaving the main battery to power the motor.

Nice project! I put a 30lb trolley on my Kayak and I’m wondering if it would be worth it to add an 30watt solar panel to charge the battery a bit. But mostly plan on using the paddles. But don’t want to waste money if the charge not worth it for the 30 watt panel. What do you think?

Get as many watts as you can. The 50w winded up being too small. Got a 175w flexible one that i love.

Is it possible to use that solar panels on saltwater fishing?

Check with the manufacturer. I don’t see why not.

Could I connect this to my Apsystems ezm1? I just want to test the ezm1 with one of those panels

I’m not sure what that is.

What size panels do I need for 12v 10 and 30 amp.

W = volts x amps. To get 10-30 amps I’d get the biggest W you can find that fits your space. The 300-400W are very common.

      @@BobPellerin your welcome
      So to demastrat
      At the meter
      Test voltage & amps
      Multiply the results
You'll find true watts going in grid or battery

    How did it work out?

    • @BobPellerin
      @BobPellerin  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Well.. I ended up getting a 175W as it wasn't enough for my needs. I'm looking for a project to use this one on.

What is the name of the engine outboard? Where did you brought it?

It's an old one. It's stored away for the winter at this point or I would go check.

      I replaced it with a 175W

You were so engrossed in the parts that you failed to discuss important things like how much current the motor draws, how long the battery will run it without a recharger, what the recharge rate is (when it's sunny), can you run the motor directly from the charger, how much longer will the motor run if the battery is being recharged while running, and I could think of other obvious important parameters that you didn't address.
And secondly, let's see your contraption work. My guess is you put it all away after the video camera stopped.
My overall impression is, here is a guy that decided to make a youtube video about using a solar charger, but beyond buying some parts, has no real understanding about what he is doing.

It was supposed to be an unboxing and I got a little carried away. LOL I have replaced this by a bigger pannel. I haven't tried to run the engine directly from solar. I have to remember to try that when spring comes along! Thanks for the excellent suggestion!!!
