Beer!!! What you need to control Slugs. Fill a small bowl with beer, the slugs go in to drink it and dround in it because they can't get out. They do that in the Netherlands, which is also a wet damp country.
Try beer in saucers in the garden to get rid of the snails ans slugs and also crush egg shells and sprinkle around plants. It also helps with slugs and snails. Both remedies are environmentally friendly. Alternarively get a chicken or two for keeping garden pests in control.
Ants help the peony to open that is why you will see ants on the bud. Slugs you can put out a saucer with beer in it and they will drown in it. Your garden is so beautiful . Great job . Your mom is so sweet and looks as though she is enjoying her visit.

Read that hedgehogs,some mice,songbirds,frogs, and slow worms plus some types of ants eat slugs. Maybe you should encourage the birds. Also just after my iris burst into bloom so did my roses. It was the warmth .

Wrap your vegetables in tulle to keep out the critters, slugs, and birds.

Once you run out of space on the ground, you just need to figure out a way to grow things in a way that you can somehow stack them vertically. 😄
The best thing for slugs and snails is diatomaceous earth. It's organic and adds nutrients to soil.
