    Just got one today on my head. The thing heated up, I had a thing over my head for better imaging, and I had to stay there for an hour. I sweated like crazy and it was the most uncumfertable experience ever. I wish the best of luck for anyone getting these scans

    I needed a MRI on my neck and couldn’t go through with it. It felt like I was in a casket. I had to stop the MRI. I almost had a panic attack. I’m going to reschedule for it to be with with Valium or just to be knocked out completely which is what I prefer.

    I was involved in the designing and assembly of this medical device, specifically the "wider bore" [bigger hole] to combat the claustrophobic fear/risk and to accommodate, unfortunately, but actual increased girth of humans... Was informed by the OEM [Original Equipment Manufacturer] that all that frightening noise is really unnecessary, was built in as "bells and whistles" to impress the WHO [World Health Organisation] reps. It really doesn't need this terrifying cacophony, the whoosh of the magnetic plates is all you should really hear. It is still an amazing imaging solution, so please understand I'm not in any way decrying it, it's just that the patient failure rate to complete, and even begin the whole process is extremely high.. The whole process is actually risk free, apart from aforementioned discomfort and fear..... Once again, with the noise factor, the operators don't require a noise signal as the the software programme, once initiated, will perform the required programmed function in the time scale required/allotted, got bugger all to with frightening sounds, that mean zilch to the operator but scare the bejesus out of the poor recipient... and please understand, I'm not undermining the operators, but they have an onscreen progress report that will remind them to engage and initiate/repeat as required... I worked on this technology and refused an MRI when I knew it was the original, now narrow bore.. and I spoke to these operators as well.

      @mriguy3202 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your statement about the audible noise is utter nonsense. The noise is a side effect of the other necessary operations and has been part of every MRI by every manufacturer for over 30 years. There are MRI models that make less noise than others, but it is certainly not some sort of marketing feature. And the WHO does not somehow control the medical equipment market.

    I went in one 25 years ago for a shoulder injury and it sucked ass, the MRI machine back then was bigger and longer tubed, i had to go in head first and when i got in all the way it was a living nightmare, so i had to make a new appointment at a later time and with the help of drugs to relax me. Not to worry now these days the machines are smaller and not as deep / long as the past, i had a MRI on my low back and it was not even a problem. So if you are still concerned or nervous take some medication to help you relax.

      Yes John I'm with you on this . I had a serious car crash twenty years ago and had to have one . Luckily I was drugged up on morphine etc but I do remember it being seriously claustrophobic! I crushed my pelvis in the crash and now I'm really suffering and I'm off for another MRI on Saturday 9th May 2015 and I'm very anxious! Like you I'm hoping the scanners have come a long way and they're not as long so you don't go all the way in .

    The only weird thoughts I had was I imagined lying in a casket. I kept my eyes closed most of the time and hummed. My husband does not like them because he thinks about what if a fire broke out and they just left him there and he couldn't get out?

  • @LYNNDIEPEE
    @LYNNDIEPEE 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just had an MRI a few days ago and it went smoothly. Lying in a tube so confined made me imagine I was in a casket but I closed my eyes and relaxed. I took deep breaths and opened my eyes as little as possible. I didn't want any sedative because i was already getting it with contrast (gadolinium)...didn't want all that stuff in me at once. The first time I had an MRI they were playing music from my favorite radio station so that helped a lot. Didn't like holding my arms over my head though.

    I went for my M.R.I. scan I wish I looked at videos and information first.. I have sleep apnea so waring a mask or something over my face I was use too.. I was calm, when lead into the room. I layed down on the bed with ear plugs and nurse put something over which covered my head leaving an opening on my face. I was placed in the machine feet first, my stomach touched the under seal of the machine. I had a button to stop and they removed me quickly from the machine.. I had a panic attack and I could not pursue as i was anxious.. I had a C.T. scan before where the drum rotated. I thought the M.R.I. would be the same so 20 minutes was a scary thought for me...BUT if i knew what i know now May be i would be alright... I hope this dont put you off your scan, it's just I suffer with Anxiety.

    Gadolinium: paramagnetic substance meaning it slightly disturbs the magnetic field thus affecting the image.
    The metal is in a moelcule which and one atom gadolinium is surrounded by other molecules that allow it to bond to water and leave your body thru your urine.

    I had one today and like a lot of others said it was tiny. I am very skinny but It was still only a few inches from my body. Luckily the top half of my chest up was out. You might listen to music but I ouldnt do it. About 20 minutes when he was about to do the injection I had to stop. About 5 minutes in my chest killed like someone was sitting on it and I couldnt breathe. I might be younger than the guy who did it above but I am still shaken and affected. They arent fun.

    Only if you require an injection of a dye they will use to help detect certain damages or abnormalities. I had to get an MRI a week ago on my left knee and they didn't use an injection on me. If they do need to inject dye, they might numb that part first.

    Honestly I was soooooo scared when I found out i was having an mri, but there was no need! I would advise you not to watch these videos too much as they do exaggerate. I cried, i was petrified but once i was in there i was absolutely fine, i came out smiling! If you are scared tell the radiographer before you go in, they'll keep talking to you in-between the separate scans. Honestly, you'll be fine!

      Ella, I am happy your experience was good for you.. but my frame is a lot larger.. I had a lovely nurse, setting up was alright for me.. until I was in the machine.. I panicked.. I think for me finding this information I may have a little at ease.. so now I wait to see my G.P. as see if it can be rescheduled... kind regards.

    I had an MRI this morning I'm pretty claustrophobic and it sure showed today lol. I had to get out twice cause I felt the need to move cause I started panicking. So the second time I told the lady sorry I couldn't do it, so she said that we could reschedule then so that I can get sedated. thinking about it I said eff I'm here I'm not trying to come back, let's do it. So I did it and at times I did kind of panic in there but I just tried to think of other things..

    Be under no illusion, it gets pretty loud, but the machine itself is very safe, don't worry about this. The knocking sound is when they start the pulsing sequence to acquire the image, Try to relax and think about the fact that MRI is now a very safe, non-invasive and mature technology

    Assuming 15 is as loud as being at a rock concert, I'd say an MRI would be about 11 or 12. It's just a little bit louder than being in an airplane when it's taking off. I just had an MRI of my brain done today. If you are claustrophobic, you can ask your doctor for a sedative to be taken 15-20 minutes before the exam.

    Close. You're right that they don't have a neutron, but a hydrogen atom has an electron which let's it bond to other atoms. If you remove the electron then you have a proton. If you add an electron to a proton then you have a hydrogen atom.

    Operating MRI scanners, I must say that while this video is somewhat informative it seems to skip the parts that shock most patients: The scanner feels very, very, tight and the ceiling is close to your face. And the example of the noise is misinformative because it is actually a sample of what it sounds like when the scanner is QUIET. Depending on the machine the sound level easily reaches 90dB and beyond! So please consult your physician before having the scan if you are claustrophobic.

      Hi, I'm looking for a Dr. to do the same thing as well. I'm specifically looking for a Specialist to Dx or rule out Arachnoiditis. I know there's a "Well known Arachnoiditis Specialist in GA." You can either get an appointment with him. Or, you can contact him by email and setup a DX interpretation. You will need to mail your MRI Disk but can email him the rest of the information he requires. I'm sure there's a charge for this service, I just have no idea how much it would be? However, I believe I'm going to contact him and find out exactly how it works.
