      Karpov being in top 2 till 96 is even more mindboggling , it gets more crazy when you see his performance in the 1994 Linares tournament( most prestigious tournament back then ) where he demolished the best players in the world at that time most if not all of them younger then him .

      It's not even known whether or not he even tested, just because some journalist wrote an article and gave an arbitrary number doesn't mean it's verifiably true.

  • @KingTode
    @KingTode ปีที่แล้ว +20

    A lot of people use arguments to suggest the gap between Fisher and his competition and Kasparov and his competition make them better than Magnus. And while the delta IS numerically higher, I think the SKILL gap between Magnus and his competition is MUCH more impressive. Those Legends were way above the competition in a time where computers weren't involved. Now every GM has the same access to the same engines, yet Magnus is still above the rest. I think Magnus is near the limit for what a human brain can achieve.

    • @absolutesonic4266
      @absolutesonic4266 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@MihajloNasticIn terms of raw memorization, cognitive thinking and reasoning skills, Magnus is definitely above average. You can see him immediately recognize positions from games without being able to see the pieces, immediately spot complicated patterns and ideas, and even outside of chess, he memorized (correct me if I'm wrong) all of the 200+ Norwegian flags by the age of 5.
      Sure, I'm not claiming he's the epitome of the species, but Magnus' memory, pattern recognition and cognitive abilities are definitely on the higher end of the human scale. This is demonstrated resoundingly by his achievements in the game of chess, but also even outside of chess.

    • @metatronyYT

      One problem in your argument is that Kasparov also dominated during time that *computers were very much involved*.
      Chessbase was released in 1985. and by 1995 it was used pretty widely, and towards the end of the 90s, all professional players prepared heavily with database and engines.
      So Kasparov dominated in both pre-computers and in computers era.
      Another issue is that dominating with computers isn't necessarily harder than dominating without them.
      Being a rich chess player (which is very rare), Magnus has more access to super computers, and can pay GMs to do the endless work for him, of finding new ideas in various openings. So that gives him an advantage over other top chess players (not to take anything away from his menacing natural talent of course)

      Because the margins were bigger. What Magnus did is more impressive because the margins are smaller. He was and is way more dominant than Bobby fischer ever was; and to understand this you or someone else needs to give this deep though to really understand it. Needless to say, magnus has his predecessors to thank for. They developed the sport and Magnus absorbed the knowledge from known chess masters and with the help of computers.... just way way way better than anyone else. Magnus truly is the goat. @@scottwarren4998 I mean peoople love to say this, but the skills required to be at the top these days aren't the same. A lot of what distinguished past top players is made much, much easier by the availability of AI. Example: Kasparov had supreme opening knowledge; but that wouldn't be nearly as useful nowadays, when AI allows you to explore openings in a fraction of the time that it used to take.
