It is good to see Evgeny Kissin still kept improving himself in recent years.

Kissin always plays the song calmly. He tries to convey the song objectively, excluding subjective emotions as much as possible. Thanks to that, we can appreciate the song itself. It's a really great performance.

Good interpretation. But not very Schubert-like to my understanding.
I agree with Sir. András Schiff's comment, that certain Schubert's impromptu pieces are more like "the music leads you forward" (which gives you a feeling like you slowly follow some brook, breeze, or subconscious motivation in a long wandering trip), whilst this interpretation is more like "the player drives the music forward", sort of overly subjective and expressive.

@@efucosiche I think she does particularly well in the middle parts, i.e. the relatively splendid sections. Very impressive with her special explicitness. But the beginning (theme) and the end is a bit too stable and monotone to my taste, or how to say, way too "typical".
If you carefully check out Brendel's interpretation of the theme, you'll notice he plays some passage notes in a more or less Staccato way with subtle dynamics and sustain. He also adjusts the colors of the chords as the sentence flows. Truely thoughtful.
With Pires' intepretation of the theme, you'll hear more hesitation and uncertainty since she seems to pause the "breath" a little bit at the first note of quite some sentences. The flows she plays are also comparatively softer. This suits Schubert's characteristics pretty well.
As analogs (only regarding this piece), I'd say Brendel is more like a sculptor, and Pires is more like a poet, and Lisitsa/Kissin is more like a rock star. Don't take it too serious. 😄

@@efucosiche Sure. For Op. 90 No. 2 I would say Horowitz's rendition is very rich in colors (so as for No. 3).

@@efucosiche personnaly, i don't like lisista in general. I think that she plays in a way too monotone.. i don't feel emotions listing to her

I usually love Kissin as a player but not with Schubert, from what I have seen so far. He plays Schubert not as emotional as Brendel or Sokolov.

Technically perfect, though I can't escape the feeling that these 'recurring trips around the church' are of little challenge and in fact boring to him. You can tell that from THE SPEED with which he plays. His approach is way too fast. Evgeni was really afraid to miss his last train home. For the correct mental attitude to this tune I refer to Valentina Lisitsa. Just go and listen to her approach. You'll immediately from the beginning feel the difference. But then again Valentina has really taken the tune to her heart. En in music, be that classic or otherwise absolutely nothing can beat up against that. Cause that's where it starts and that where it ends!!!
You are totaly right for Valentina. She IS so amazing in everything she plays. But listen to Brendel please. I am afraid he plays better than Valentina for this beautifull impromptu n°3. Just listen and take pleasure because music is not only to compare but emotions.
It's good, Brendel is my favorite though.

This is technically and musically a perfect interpretation. It's so impressive. In my opinion the way he plays it lacks a little bit of emotion though, I think it would be more appropriate to play like this for Mozart or Chopin. But again, absolutely perfect otherwise. Just wow.
