In 20.1, they made lower tech books appear more frequently in lower loot stages and increased the odds of finding books overall. Seems like it's working as intended (especially with desert + city loot bonuses).
Yeah, that's what I was going to say. Being in the desert and the (potential POI) loot chance increase is definitely help Glock in this one. In the temperate biome on the same map, day 1 and 2 it isn't a guaranteed book per mailbox/newspaper bin etc. So I think it's in a much better spot now. Being in a harder biome should feel more rewarding for surviving the increased difficulty, even in the early game.
I'm pretty sure they boosted it too much. I literally find Spear, Hunting, Archery, Clothing books in every mailbox, and I do mean literally EVERY mailbox.
I agree, there are playthroughs I reach cap level and am still missing books, so this is a nice addition.
What he's saying is it shouldn't be a 100% rate. More frequently is okay but 100% is to much. In his opinion it is anyways.

I completely agree. They need to adjust the pipe shotgun. so far it's just a massive downgrade from the blunderbuss. It's should at least feel comparable since it actually costs shotgun shells. The reload speed needs adjusted and should deal slightly more damage or at least have a higher stumble chance when I'm stuffing the barrel in the zombies mouth.
They made the reload animation so cool they didn't want to speed it up. It should be double barrel like over/under config that would balance it out
Or make it have 2 shots like a double barrel - so effectively making it a tier 1 entry level double barrel. The reload animation is ridiculously long for how crap it is.
I agree... and i almost think it's bugged. I often think I have loaded it, but find out I Haven't because the animation takes so long, I click something right at the end.
Also, every time he shoots that thing it probably summons 6 more zombies.
Would be better if it holds more ammo to compensate it to its time consuming reload animation
18:18 You don't have to move the land claim block, it's field goes from the top of the skybox to bedrock, the height of the green indicator box isn't an accurate representation, only the length and breadth are a finite number of blocks.

Yup, that was interesting to know. My base is in a POI that has a pretty extensive basement, and I was wondering how far down the land claim protects.

That strip mall you were in is a tier IV POI, so it's fairly involved. I'd say you were about 60-70% of the way through it so it was a wise decision that you bailed. I've tried to do it at night with feral sense on and it is an absolute nightmare.

Yes - 20.1 put more spear, archer, and clothing books in the mail and news in early stages since that’s when you need them.
Crazy how it's easier to find books in mailboxes now than in book stacks...
Maybe between that and the desert biome it's a near 100% rate
That's my thought too. My current run started in the grasslands and I've found some books in the mailboxes, but also plenty of paper. But the desert has a higher loot quality level.

The first a20 update books were crazy rare so they upped books a lot in news and mailboxes. But they gave it tiers so spears and clothes and club books are way common early game.

Seriously, those escalators are the highlight of my 7dtd experience. That bldg. was in the wastelands, and the target of a Tier IV (I think) mission. I was halfway down when zombies started POURING in from both sides on the floor below, even the one that should have dead-ended with the bathroom. They had broken through that outer wall. They also converged on me from both sides of the floor at the TOP of the thing. I had heavy armor and points into it. I had a level 6 auto shotgun and points into boomstick. And I must have had 200 shells. Oh...My....God. I have never had such fun swiveling on that escalator, blasting in both directions, trying to keep my doom at bay. According to my daughter, who was in the street putting loot in her jeep, I was shouting like Hudson when he dies in "Aliens", punctuated by relentless shotgun blasts. When it finally broke, what saved my ass - besides my heavy armor - was the fact that the zombies, for some dumb-ass reason, never came at me from the neighboring escalator. So I was able to jump to it and repair the gun before they regrouped against me on that one. Then it was back to blasting, laughing and shouting. "Oh you want some too? You're gonna have to share with her, mother fucker! Here's some for you too then, bitch! Fuck yeah! A chicken in every pot and buckshot in every face! Boo Yah, asshole, come and get some more!"
There are a lot more books in letterboxes since alpha 20. This episode was epic!
Best episode in a long time! Not like you’re going through the motions, but genuine almost dead terror. Loved it.
Since A20 (or A20.1), you can find Spear, Bow and Needle books very easily in mail boxes. I usualy have the 3 book series completed by day 2.
you can find a lot of books in big blue mail boxes and newspaper vending machines but notice only the pocket mod book was really useful the better books do not come from them often. Don't forget while exploring that there are sewer areas in city zones :)
Glock, you are in the dessert biome, in a city downtown. The loot table is much higher here than in the grass bio. For this reason your chance of finding a book in a place like "crack-a-book" mailbox or bookshelves is much higher than otherwise. Also I believe the Fun Pimps set it to where easy to grab books will only give lower tiered books like the spear, archery and clothing books. If you were looting these book lootables in the grass biome, you would get like a 40-50% chance of a book and get mostly paper but since you are in a downtown and in the desert, the loot stage all but guarantees a skill book. Higher skilled books will be found in "Main Stash" loot, not so much in easy to grab locations (Crack-a-book crates).

I am getting caught up on you City Life play through while I get my sweat on (working out)... Looks like today I was not the only one sweating. Was it me, or was that chicken thinking "fu fu fu FUCK!" as you cornered him. Hahaha! Great episode, I enjoy the struggle.
First: To slow down zombies, kneecapping works really well. Hard to hop along with one leg as fast as running with two.
Second: ... What happens if you step into a fire? What happens when zombies step into a fire? That may be a thing to try.
Third: You could have put some blocks on one of the high places while walking on that crumbling wall --- that would have (slightly) delayed backstabbing zombies and might have given you a warning.

That was cool, seeing Glock get ambushed! Normally I end up getting a little bored during his zombie encounters because he just doesn't get hit much. He must be good at stamina management and picks good places to defend. But this time they caught him off guard and it was awesome!

As you've now experienced first hand, cities in Alpha 20 are no joke. Especially on Survivalist. The pipe shotgun will get you killed. I highly recommend putting a point into boomstick and gathering shotgun parts to make a double barrel right away. Reloads faster, does way more damage and has 2 rounds. Also, yes sorta about the mailboxes. They raised the chance of finding needle and thread, hunter, spear hunter and... one other book in mailboxes and newspaper things early game. I'm pretty sure the chance returns to normal once you hit the threshold for the next loot stage.

I don’t think I’m caught up on the series so idk if you know this but when you are harvesting animals with your knife you know how the animation takes forever and when you try to attack the animation doesn’t take forever if you aim close but not on the animal hit then move your crosshairs back onto the animal before the animation is over it’s so much faster
I did a couple test runs, Day 1 starting near a big neighborhood, run around collecting Spear/Bow/Sewing books from every single mailboxes. Getting over 30 books in first day. Whether you need the skills or not, it's easy early money if you just sell them. It looks like they changed their prices to 100 tokens each, I remember some of them being worth more. It's still weird, though. Basically, find a new town? Farm those mailboxes for easy cash.

In those raised planters outside the door, with the trees, you can plant crops in those. At least I can in the green zone

Loving the challenge of this playthrough so far. Seeing glock get humbled a little bit by the zombies is extremely entertaining. I'm loving the 80's themed "city" music, too. I wouldn't mind a full playlist of the tracks he's using.

Just an idea but you should power this building fully. Blade traps above the entrances so it hits them as they're coming in. Smg turrets using 9mm since you use that less in horde fights. Electric fences at the entrances so the blade traps do more work. Lights. It'd be great.
Everytime Glock got cornered by the zombs I was like this could be more intense than the one hit series! And then he ate the cornmeal like a mad man and i knew it. This is more intense lol. Bring on the madness!

Crazy morning. But I guess that's what you get when you live in the city. I wish I could find a city this big as well, I'd love to try a run in this style.
If it were a show that would be the desperate cliffhanger into the mid-season break… a shot of Glock sadly huffing cornmeal powder and a fade to black as the camera pulls out to show the city outskirts being overrun. Then we see “stay tuned for more The Glocking Dead”.

Hey @Glock9 I had a relatively decent idea for a future series you could do, it'd be called "Watch tower" or "King of the hill" or something on that line. Basically you could build a base on the peak of a tall hill/mountain and have a heli pad for a gyro so you can fly to and from your base, you would shoot down via however you setup the tower/base and have turrets and traps at the base of the hill/mountain ect, could be pretty cool!

Two episodes and man this series is already crazy and insane! Loving life in the big desert city! Also I feel like I get books every time from mail boxes and those paper boxes now a days think they made it like that in the last patch.
This. This is good stuff. Damned near every zom seems to be feral and with the sense turned off its this intense? This of course means that in a few weeks the next big challenge will be to do city life 2 with it on, max difficulty. Anyone else wondering if we're finally gonna see Glock put some points into armor instead of just bouncing his body around in whatever he happens to pick up? :)

Last time I played the Dishong tower I put my land claim block on the 5th floor and it prevented spawns in the whole building. That was back in alpha 18 though so don't know if those mechanics have changed.

All mail boxes have been buffed for Clubs, Spears, Bows and Clothing books only. Plan accordingly. Whenever I hit a newcity, I run all mail boxes. Great bump at the start of a new game.
When Glock eats corn meal you know it's bad. Also the universe dies just a little.
There is books in mail boxes everywhere, on my recent play through I completed a series 7/7 at 4pm on day 1
Hey Glock, you do know Grilled meat no longer takes thirst and fills the same amount of hunger right? Your using up jars and water that you don't really need to.
Firing your weapon in the city is like ring the diner bell for them. Not a good idea at low levels. It has the same effect as turning on feral sense. They will come from blocks away.
Wow, rough start indeed. Must be the combination of desert (higher loot stage) plus city (higher tier zombies, lotsa ferals). Watching another player who's also doing a city base, and he had a really hard time at the start too. Night will be the WRONG TIME to go looting, you'll get bears, cops, bikers really fast.
It's actually the bedroll that stops zombie respawns not the land claim block. The land claim block just adds to your bases block strength.
Man, that series is awesome already. I always think like "Ey, he is a pro at this game, nice to watch but he'll manage easily..." and then 7DTD kicks his ass in a new and funny way. Loving it.

You should do a series like this. But put your helicopter at a top of the building like the tower. And you have to collapse the building down to get it. But also you’re not allowed to build in that building but you have to fight the hordes in that building so you can’t put down any blocks.
I agree. The magazine in every mailbox/container for paper/magazine's is a bug. This happened to me as soon as I increased the difficulty to survivalist. I haven't checked to see if insane is also bugged.
I just checked the small, wooden Crack-A-Book and most of the lootables for magazines had paper. So it's possible only the lootables outside/in the cities are buggy.
Watching you find all those books after I got nothing but paper from my entire city of mailboxes was both frustrating and satisfying lol. Maybe the recent patch actually helped those odds.
