LET'S KILL A PALETTE | Depotting the Pat McGrath Mothership Subliminal

  • Sup kids!
Today, we're depotting the Pat McGrath Mothership Subliminal palette. I had originally filmed a 3 looks and review with this, but ultimately the film got botched and I opted against uploading my review. So you may hear references to that, but that video doesn't exist.
PLEASE DO keep in mind that even though this series is named "Let's Kill a Palette," I'm not here to cause dramz or disrespect a makeup brand, particularly one by a makeup artist who works as hard as Pat does. That name is supposed to be all in good fun. I know not everyone likes depotting, and that's okay. You do you. But I do, and it's an important part of my makeup experience, so try to keep an open mind.
ANYWHO. The look on my face is filmed, and it will be/is a part of my 10 Looks with the Morphe 35M, which will be up shortly.
    See y'all around the internet!

Honestly this is a another type of being brave! I would be so afraid to break such expensive shadows! Great job 😍

FYI: The 4 shadows on the right end of the palette, which are her “special formula” are the only ones sitting on the plastic tab. All the other shadows are sitting in traditional pans. Never mind...you figured it out. LOL! =) And the reason the others are sitting on the plastic tab is because they are baked. That I am aware of, all baked formulas sit on some type of plastic tab like these.

Yeah haha yeah I did figure out out eventually.
Yes! Jo was telling me about the baked formula the other day. That makes sense. Though I do still like it much better after I repressed it.

I think that's how baked eyeshadows are. Most I've seen have not had actual pans. I depotted some nars eyeshadows and found that to be the case. Lol

The saddest part of this video for me is that you had a shade that your detested. For the price paid for it, that's heartbreaking.

Well luckily for me I didn't pay for it! Haha. It was a gift.

Hi Gina! Curious if you’ve ever tried to depot the single eyedol shadows? I’m fairly decent at depotting, have the zpotter etc, but I’m stumped on the single pmg shades!

@@FacesByGina lol I would never. I just find it all so relaxing. I make a hopeless mess when I do it. I have a load of Smashbox shadows I want to depot as the packaging is sticky (had them years don’t tell anyone) if I depot and break them up and repress would it “refresh” the shadow or do I need to bin them because of their age? Some have never been used (sickness and just stopped bothering) sorry for all the questions feel free to ignore me lol 😝

@@JoolsVoiceOver no need to apologize! I'm here to help. You might be able to refresh some of them with a repan; it really depends on what's causing them to feel old. Like if you swatched them a lot and the top of the shadow has a lot of your finger oils, a repan might do it some good. But if the binder has broken down or something I'm less sure. I haven't done a ton of tinkering in that area.

@@FacesByGina thanks hon it seems a shame to waste them. I think had I used them loads they would need binning as there would be all sorts in them but it’s just the packaging that has aged, the shadows seem fine to me. No doubt when I try I’ll break them all but now I feel better about fixing them thank you xx

Ah!? These shine/glitter formulas PML's are like the MAC the Extra Dimension bakes eyeshadow formula. I deported my MAC one because the base cracked off and the grid is meant to hold the product together because the formula matrix is drier compared to a traditional shimmer/metallic eyeshadows... they would just slide out of a metal pan. O_o lol

    • @FacesByGina

Ooh, so actually, they're baked! They stay just fine in a regular pan, but they have that silicone bottom because they're a baked gelee formula, I believe. I've had a few more products with the same webbing on the bottom.
