Playing The Crane Game! Freightliner Rollover!

  • In this video, I got to help out on a heavy duty rollover, involving an 18 wheeler that was hauling the lower section of a Darrick, off a 750 ton crane, weighing approximately 50,000lbs.
    The load became detached after the incident, so after we righted the truck and trailer, we had to wait for two cranes to arrive to lift and roll the section of boom, so that it could be loaded without further damage.
    Thankfully the driver of the rig was unharmed in the incident.

    That boom section is from a Manitowoc crane. Before it can be used again, I will have to be inspected and certified by a licensed crane inspector. As for the truck driver that lost the truck and load, he is not competent to drive a truck again. It does not take much to see what happened here.

    The scary statement was that the driver was not “familiar” with the load and didn’t know its weight. So this was a top heavy 50,000lb load held on with a couple of ratchet straps, no chains, and taking the turn way too fast. The list of citations would make my printer run out of ink!!

    1075 next on our list, still waiting on the build to be done. 19month lead time sucks but definitely looking forward to seeing my 1075 rotator. Got a 40ton Rotator for Ya'll if you're interested. And a few Holmes 600R's best dam truck for the money and capabilities of having a Medium duty wrecker with capabilities to handle almost any type of call. And a rotating boom. I think the truck driver was calling them f*** amateurs for the landing of the truck, which I agree with how Donnie does some of his jobs, most of the other towing channels I watch use catch lines for a gentle touch down, but pretty funny since he rolled the truck, so who is the amateur?

    • @Towtruck_Dustin
      @Towtruck_Dustin  ปีที่แล้ว

      The purpose of a catch line is to stop it from rolling towards you, which is generally only a concern on high profile vehicles. Absolutely zero damage was incurred from rolling the truck back over on its wheels like this.

      It would be nice, but rotators aren’t very practical around here. Which is why no one has them.

    WOW, they don't tell you before to know you need extra equipment? No pics of accident sent? No dispatch? Long waiting for others....

      The cops just call next on rotation. It’s our job to determine what’s needed. In this case, it changed as we went along. Went from us making the lift, to having to bring in crane’s because the driver didn’t know how much his load weighed.

      @Towtruck_Dustin OK , I was just wondering

    Nice recovery, sometimes its better to let the heavy team who is experienced direct you instead of you them. Always best to stay in your lane of knowledge saves being wrong at every turn.

    Why not call out a rotator? Less set up time and only one truck needed instead of two cranes.

    • @Towtruck_Dustin
      @Towtruck_Dustin  ปีที่แล้ว

      Because no one around here really uses rotators. We had two on standby, but the crane company already the cranes enroute. They were small rotators that would have probably only barely got the job done, and they were just as far out as the cranes.

    You guys need a 25 ton Rotator Tow truck for some Jobs like theses

    • @Towtruck_Dustin
      @Towtruck_Dustin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A 25 ton wouldn’t have been enough. They ended up bringing in a 80 and a 100 ton crane, and the 80 ton had to setup right on it, and couldn’t boom down much because of the load.

  • @TeamRedfishAssassin
    @TeamRedfishAssassin 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Youre only supposed to tie down boom sections with straps unless it has designated tie down points for chain. Been in crane and rigging 15 years and you never put chain on boom sections.

      Exactly why we didn’t.

    Straps keep stretching, why not use chains?

    • @Towtruck_Dustin
      @Towtruck_Dustin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They brought us those because they didn’t want chains across the surface of the boom. Those straps are how they generally secure them in transport.
