This makes me so angry - we all have growing collections and the hobby is expensive enough without having to pay for bolstered security and reinforced fencing. I hope the thieves are caught and the trees recovered soon.

It is horrifying to see such senseless acts, by the majority of comments many do not understand trees are living things that require years of dedication and care just to keeping alive let alone the artistic vision and effort needed to make something beautiful.

This is just so sad. As a gardener, I understand how much time, care and love went into the trees. These thieves are morally bankrupt losers, shame on them.

I actually have a pit bull guarding my trees in SF. Built 4 foot high benches to keep her from messing with trees but don’t trust them being unguarded out there

This was carried out by an Asian crime group, to sell the trees to Asian buyers. You should see how certain wildlife is poached in California by the same types, to get innards for Asian “medicines”.

Those trees are beautiful and the fact that the owners of them lent them to the garden for other people to enjoy was a nice gesture. In the future I don't believe people will be so generous with there trees. I hope they didn't steal the tree that was given to Lincoln by Japan during the Civil War. It's time that the city of Oakland and the bay area stop playing activist with people's livelihoods and go back to enforcing the law. Before criminals ruin there city and the surrounding areas. Make your vote count by being responsible, stop voting for candidates based on there race sexual preference, and gender. You need a former police chief for mayor city council members that have actually run a business, and state house members that have been in the field of law so they understand the constitution as well as the law. And if you don't stop b*tching you deserve exactly what you voted for!!"
Those plants will either be returned or die, anyone who has respect and appreciation for Bonsai would never purchase a stolen one, no one will buy them.
I expect nothing less from Oakland.

This is someone that clearly knows their value they’ve probably been there before. On several occasions they thought this out they probably even know where to sell them at. It’s probably down in LA somewhere.

Man people need to start treating there tree's like they are worth what they are worth. Put Security measures in place when you have valuables just like if you have valuable Jewelry locked in a safety deposit box.. start with camera's and locks for less valuable tree's then with tree's over 1000 dollars put tracking devices in the pots..
At least several security cameras also each tree could have a gps tracker .

Yeah the prices can be kinda crazy, but some of these will have had multiple generations of work put into them. There's not many other art forms where this length of time is needed to create, and such dedicated, skilled care needed to maintain
