But when he gets a ball screen especially later in his career the way used it was masterful, bird was ridiculous as well with pin down screens to the point it absurd.
With this Microskills series, people gets to appreciate more the efficiency of MJ's game. Fancy is not really part of his game, it just comes out naturally due to his athletism and creativeness. Majority of players of yesteryears preferred efficiency over fancy playing, not to mention coaches discouraged players to be fancy. If one gets too fancy and fail, high chance he will be hitting the bench soon. Not the same nowadays. Just wanted to mention that because younger fans always argue that old players cant dribble well and uses these arguments as proof to say current players are far superior. There are more to the stories, games rules and culture plays a great part of it.
thats the orthodox style of basketball no fancy extra moves no waste movements. todays game is streeball style one million dribble and one million waste moves just to look good
Someone please tell this to 2k cause I don’t know how to get in those chat with game developers. Jordan’s skills as far as purple badges are super great and accurate but to show this in his game would truly show his elite ness from everyone else.
I actually used to practice the MJ’s stutter step cross over into a midrange fadeaway or get to the basket for hours at the gym. I also practiced MJ’s push out jumper too which is a great move to use versus taller and more athletic defenders.
"And then you can start beating defenders like MJ"... Oh, so that's what was holding me back? LOL 😂 Nah, I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy this. Knowing and doing is two different things hahah
Everyone should look at these MJ video break downs to see how he was able to score in games, good stuff man! very great stuff! this is why he's my favorite all time sometimes I think people don't really understand how great this dude was
Anyone who sees this and still thinks MJ ain't GOAT needs to have his head examined. No one, not KAJ, Lebron, Wilt, Russell, were as skilled as MJ. NO ONE.
Those moves as basic as they look they’re difficult to execute bc you need to also study spacing. So kudos to Bean who mastered most of not all of these. Just Kobe wasn’t as light in his feet as Mike... mike was a different athlete altogether...
LOVE this whole series....I'm only kidding when I say.... I can't believe out of all the quarter-spins you didn't use the greatest one of all when he faked out Oakley & Starks and jammed on Ewing.
I want to see a video comparison of why Jordan is better than Lebron. We know Jordan played with a great deal of skill and fundamental precision. I would love to see an analytical breakdown between the two players. Lebron is a power player . Jordan was more of a finesse player that played in a different era. However I would love to see the breakdown from your perspective.
There was a move where he had his back turned against the defender, sort of a post, then he will have two hard bounces on different directions then he'll take a turn around jumper. Can you please analyse that move.
You shouldn’t only model your game to MJ and Kobe if your 6’4” and above. Or if your an A.I. athlete. I like the break down but I think it be best if there is a disclaimer on the videos. Also, if your like most and avg height to 6”2’ you may want to look at other players to model off of. Also, he does not note the matchup here. MJ is the GOAT but he was also very intelligent and knew his defenders well. There are things you can take away from these videos but not everything if your around avg height. Also, these moves worked because he was colossal in the midrange and lets face it. Not everyone has a 48’ vertical either even at 6’6”. He also had probably one of the quickest first steps with Iverson and Dave Bing.
@James Robert ... Difference in the way we did it is what I'm getting at. We took more than 2 or 3 steps. There were also instances where you can do it off the pivot. Depends on who was giving the test. Years ago it was stated that Jordan could stand jump and get his whole hand above the square. If you work the numbers out, that would be around 46".
also his huge hands made everything he did a lot better too, something that is a lot more rare than being 6'6. those inside-out dribbles, spin dribble, or first step going left and then quickly cut back to the right dribble could not be done as smoothly if he didn't have those huge mitts.
Jordan is the GOAT because of all these details. I personally don't give a lot of credit to the titles when we speak about GOAT because it's a teamwork and the Bulls didn't beat any juggernaut in the finals. Yet, I consider MJ the GOAT.
They held a team that swept the Shaq & Kobe Lakers in the play-offs to 54 points in a finals game. To reference a fictional character, Thanos is Thanos, regardless of who he faced in the finals. Michael Jordan was pretty much Thanos in the 90s. Lets keep in mind that Jordan was the ONLY Allstar on the Bulls first Championship roster in 91. I remember watching the 96 finals against a Sonics teams that was no joke, and I just knew Michael Jordan and the Bulls were not going to be stopped. His aura was different. The 93 Suns were a great team, and if Jordan didn't go crazy averaging 40 in that series, the Suns win. The Bulls were molded in his image.
I doubt he ever practiced the wheel. It probably came instictively to him in game time and to be truthful, the way he does the move looks like impossible to replicate without dislodging a couple of joints in the process.
5:42 he doesn’t have a lot of moves? Shhhhiiiiddddd. Jumpman abusing people on these vids. This stutter step fucking them up. They don’t know which way he going or if he going to the hole or pulling up for a jumper. He doesn’t have a lot of moves!!! He has too many #🐐
Wade and Zion both use the same skills to attack the basket and are the only 2 slashers on the level of Jordan. Bron might be the GOAT finisher once he gets there, buy he is far behind most of his peers at how he gets to the basket. Bron is terrible at creating space off the dribble in the half court. Wade and Zion excel at that ish.
Tremendous analysis series. Bravo. Jordan’s game was so nuanced that I can’t believe that people compare him to anyone playing today.
Exactly. And then there was his defense too...
This is awesome man. You’ve obviously studied MJ’s game and know his moves well
It's a shame these vids don't have more views.
FACTS
Kids don't study just watches highlights
1 thing i noticed is mj doest really need a ball screen..mj is crazy quick with elite fundamentals..the greatest..
But when he gets a ball screen especially later in his career the way used it was masterful, bird was ridiculous as well with pin down screens to the point it absurd.
His quickness was translatable to every era

Yo that stutter step seems so simple but its deadly
Damm!! Players now a days are so lucky to see this content and confidential video of MJ moves
I wish all these moves can be incorporated to MJ's moves in NBA2K.
If you seof edit you can get it done to a high degree

@@Shellykat-p4w true i only shoot 3s when wide i just go to midrange most of the times
Its a shame to even compare him to other players. MJ was on a class of his own.
Lebron is the greatest of all time, pure athlete with a wide range.
Blakii Beats bron the best athlete but mj more skilled
@@zachbaquiran7796 I agree but I think it’s hard to compare the 2 since they have very different games

I appreciate the minute movements that many people don’t catch. There are so many small details people never pick up watching basketball.
Just the idea of an effective “float” excites me to the Nth degree
this should have more views. your analysis was on point

More players, trainers and coaches should watch these videos from Drew Hanlen.
4:16 That’s Ridiculous
fundamentals are everything
One of the most underrated part of his game is his fundamentals
It took MJ only 2-3 dribbles to bust his defenders.
Them big mits & strong forearms helped too!

2:25 Inside Out
3:12 Stutter/ Inside out crossover

They should still be effective if you are facing players your own height. Jordan's defenders averaged 6'7 in height
@James Robert... There are different ways in which vertical leaping was tested back then, not just that way.
@James Robert ... Again, years ago, they also tested the run and jump. We did this and the stand and jump when we were tested for ball in the 80s.
@James Robert ... Difference in the way we did it is what I'm getting at. We took more than 2 or 3 steps. There were also instances where you can do it off the pivot. Depends on who was giving the test.
