The meter rang on moisture you could see with your eyes. Remarkeable. Such indispensible technology.

The moisture meter only indicates the dampness of the surface. The location of the dampness like what you mentioned in your last few sentences that it may not be where the leak is. Hacking your wall without knowing the source of the leak may be very costly. Regards, TLD.

Hi, in regards to water dampness in wall, there are only a few sources where the water can come from. It can come from 1) a leaking supply pipe/s, 2) leaking drain pipe/s, 3) stray leakage from some poor plumbing joint/s or seals, damaged basin, wc, etc and 4) lastly dampness from the ground. So, if the supply pipes are turned off and the dampness disappeared, you basically eliminate the above causes from 1 to 3. You can also do a hydrostatic test on the supply pipes to check whether it is leaking or not. Once it is comfirmed that the leak is not from the supply pipes then you can check on the drainage pipes and other possible lose joints or gaskets. The above are only a very short description of what can be done. There are more to it. Hope that it is of some help.

Useless information.this will only tell you that there is a possibility of water behind the wall without a visual inspection. The dry wall has to be removed for a closer examination. Most of the time when water is behind a wall you will begin to know it's appearance by flaking plaster or something of that nature on the dry wall. Which besides this gadget will not pin point the source of the leak since the leak could be coming from outside penetrating the building. For sure this device would help as a preventative when buying a house but you would have to inspect every square inch since water could come in at any point or be anywhere.

OBAMA HATER sounds like a water pressure issue. I would definitely contact a plumber because the last thing you need is a massive break.

well you already knew where the weak spot was. The big question is how much RH% is high enough so you'd have to open the drywall or leave it

Prakash Rai yes it is a little expensive if you are only going to use it once but Not being able to pinpoint the exact location can overtime cause a much greater damage.
