I worked on the CIWS weapons systems while I was in the US Navy and you are right, they would absolutely wreck shop!,,, if they didn't jam or malfunction, if they were not all fired at once( you would need 1/2 down for reloading while the other half fired) if you had enough ammo (the Mk 0 I maintained fired 3,000 rds/minute, the Mk 1 I understand fires 6,000) and if you had enough people in the center to maintain clear troubleshoot and reload these things. On the other side I think you underestimate the destructive force these things would visit on squishy used to be humans! a 20mm depleted uranium slug would go through several of them and still have a lot of killing force left
If the phalanx guns were each mounted on 40 foot towers instead of sitting on the ground, there wouldn't even have been one destroyed.
How about a battle of everything human against everything not human...Star Trek, Star Wars, and LOTR? Add a city, Hills and a canyon
Better than sending in ground troops, especially against zombies.

I don’t think this is working right. There should be much more and deeper damage to the zombies than I’m seeing. The CWIS is a formidable weapon. In RL they can only fire about 30 seconds total before they run out of ammo. But in this fantasy scenario, since they have unlimited ammo, they should have easily destroyed all the zombies.
100 rounds per second equals 30,000 rounds total per second. They would kill 3,000,000 zombies in 100 seconds or less than 2 minutes. That's assuming one shot kills one zombie. But each bullet would penetrate multiple zombies.
It should have done a lot better. They are not sweeping like they should and once a pile builds up they quit shooting.

Are they incapable of firing in a sweep pattern? Why do they only seem to fire in one direction at a time?

The Phalanx can fire 6000 rounds a minute. With 300 of them you can fire 1.8 million rounds in 1 minute.
And lets say only 40% hit their mark and lets say it takes 3 rounds to destroy 1 zombie; but you get any of 3 guns targeting the same zombie at the same time.
That makes for 80,000 zombie deaths a minute, and 37 ½ minutes to kill 3,000 000 zombies.
Whoops mistake in calculations as the video is 19 ½ minutes long.
Maybe it takes 2 shots to kill a Zombie. Well that’s closer. At 120,000 deaths a minute - looking at 25 minute video.

The guns were damaged far too easily by the zombies, the accuracy of the guns was not as good as it would be.

each bullet is 20mm it should kill multiple zombies when the bullet hits them
Plus with intelligent control the enemy should never get near like that where tthey kept coming right up to individual guns in groups and just getting ignored.
