This singer did justice to the Sri Lankan national anthem by pronouncing the words so well and singing it in such a way that evokes pride and love for our country. Thank you very much!
Please don't compare singers. Our singer Umara apologized for her mistakes. They were unintended mistakes. Leave it at that. Like Brian she sang the anthem not according to the Indian-Sri Lankan style, but that's ok. Even the army, navy, and airforce bands play it using the western music style at every independence Day ceremony!
@@IsuruCharunya if that is true, I hope it changes. I see country anthems like hymns that hopefully draw people together as a community even when a community is made up of lots of cultures. Best wishes to you.
Thank you. It was an honour to sing the Sri Lankan national anthem for the team and all visitors from Sri Lanka to the test match. It was the first time both anthems were permitted to be sung together on Australia day and since then it has become a tradition. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
I'm speechless.....You couldn't have sung it more perfectly..... You've got such an evocative and powerful voice that deserves the appreciation and admiration of all the Sri Lankans. Thank you so much for honouring my country with your impressive and immaculate singing of our national anthem. ❤
You are blessed with an incredible gift. To be able to sing like that in a language that isn’t close to English and yet to be able to enunciate the words perfectly and to emotionally move people, speaks immensely of your talent and cleverness. I sincerely hope you receive(d) credit and praise - then and now
Brian, your pitch was so perfect for the SL National Anthem. I show a lot of respect for Sri Lanka where my parents were from Sri Lanka. They lived in Sri Lanka when they were younger.
Thank you for your kind words Pooma. It was an honour to sing your National Anthem in these circumstances and to work with the Claesson family who helped me with the pronunciation. Please feel comfortable to share the video with your friends.
@@dontsingbesung Oh it's you who sang! Thank you for doing such a wonderful job 🙏 sinhales is not an easy language to pronounce, you did it wonderfully! This was sometime back but someone sent me today to compare how a mucky job a srilankan has done at an opening of some games in s/lanka recently :( Thank you again!
Thank you Dinie. We have a strong Sri Lankan community in Adelaide where this took place. A Sri Lankan family, the Classen family helped me study the phonetic delivery of the anthem. It was a very emotional day and was the first time a visiting country anthem was permitted to be delivered with the Australian national anthem. It became a tradition since then and all of our international sporting events present both anthems as an exercise in good will. Bg
Wow I feel so proud to hear you sing my precious Sri Lankan National Anthem so beautifully. Thank you Brian. I also love your rendition of our beautiful Australian National Anthem. Such a legend you are 🩵
Your voice is a gift from God. You are blessed. Really eye opening for Sri Lankan's. When foreigners speak Sinhala and sing . Some Sri Lankan forget their original native language when they live in a foreign country and when meet someone your own country. Many pretend they can't speak Sinhala this was an good example for people like them. These is my true life experience.

Thank you for your kind words. It was an absolute pleasure singing your anthem and honouring your cricketers and community here in Australia and around the world on that memorable day
Dear sir, expect a surge of comments on this video. Your great singing is compared with a bad singing done by a Sri Lankan singer recently. And have to say your singing gave me goosebumps. hats off!
Thank you. It was a very emotional moment. Subsequently I was invited to dine with the team and they presented me with a signed cricket bat which I treasure.
Thank you. It is only through receiving these comments that I was made aware of the interest over there in this performance for your team. How do you know that millions have heard it? My youtube channel says it has been viewed 36,000 times. Best wishes to you.
@@dontsingbesung Sir i assume that you know about the recent incident where a native singer mispronounced words in our national anthem. Well, some TV channels that reported on this also cited your performance as a prime example of how the anthem is treated with respect even in other countries... + your performance is also on facebook... so i believe it is safe to say that millions of Sri Lankans have watched your performance and that you have made many people happy through it.
@helikopter6857 thank you for this explanation. It makes sense to me now why such a big interest. Did they play my singing of the anthem on the TV? I have now read about the young woman who sang the anthem. Did she deliberately change the words in some sort of protest or did she have a mental freeze and just mumble words to get through? I have read that she was called to explain herself before a minister. I hope she is ok. Kind regards Brian.
@@dontsingbesung yes sir. If i remember correctly one channel has telecasted a small clip of your singing on their news broadcast. And regarding the singer, there isnt a proper idea on why that incident happened because she is yet to speak about it openly. The only thing we know is that she has sung the National Anthem in an Opera style,(if that is the correct term) and as a result she has mispronounced the word "matha"(mother) as "mahatha"(Mister)... Anyway i thank you once again for your performance and for your time. Best wishes to you!

Thank you Gihan. I learnt the Anthem from 2 weeks before the Test Match which took place on Australia Day that year. It was the first time a visiting team's anthem was sung at an event on Australia Day and has since become a tradition. I was coached in the Sinhala version by the late Dr Risien Bartholomeusz who was introduced to me by a Sri Lankan family in South Australia. They spoke it for me. I sang it. They corrected me and I took it away and learned it. I returned a few days later. They were happy and I went out and sang it. I will treasure the experience. Bg
