I worked in a non-profit and love my retired volunteers. There are many programmes in Singapore to promote lifelong learning and digitalization for all including seniors and person with disabilities
Last month I attended the AI generated course and my classroom who sat next to me was a 86 years old man! And the other class on ChatGPT my classroom she is 78 years old gorgeous lady! Although they had hard time understanding the course also to follow the trainers, but that never fail them to keep learning new technologies! Thanks to our government to encourage the silver aged group to continue their skills with SKILL FUTURE LEARNING! Every Singaporean given up to SGD 4000 to learn any courses, be with it cooking course or any skills they could pick up!
I totally agree with what you said. I am 75 years old and I have been volunteering to befriend lonely elderly since I was 43 years old. It is such a blessing to be able to give back to society. My mum who is 95 years old is also volunteering with me. Some elderly we serve are younger than her
Our government gives everyone money to learn. We can learn whatever we want. So our family encouraged the retired parents to spend time to learn how to use all these gadgets.
Last evening, there was a part documentary on the Chinese station news, interviewing 2 elderly over 70+ years on why they volunteer to look after other elderly who are not well. There is an increase trend of although the figures are small. My wife (in her 50s), a volunteer for the Gov agency attending to elderly family told me last week while talking to friends why she does that. She said, for her, it is a way of giving forward. Why? My mother-in-law is getting into the 80s... she said, she hope when her mother needs help in future, she hope someone can come forward to provide the assistance when we are not available at that time.... "You never know", that really struct me as I never thought of that even though I would without fail, to offer help to any one... Now I know why, she had been consistent in asking me to retired and join her in the volunteer services. She had pestered me for several years before I hit 55... now I am into my early 60s
@teykltey2204: Hi tey, just for curiosity, do U get Impress Easily????? Do U always agree with someone just talk, talk & talk......then the noises just go in side your ears without going into your Brain/& think/observe what U had listen or See,immediately U make Some kind of comments!!!!! Sorry to said that I will not automatically offer help to PRc. Because, they will never feel grateful. There is one nad experience, 1 middle agelady from china, asking for the clinic location,my Indonesian helper see the address, told her next building take the lift to the 4th floor. She doesn't understand.so I speak Mandarin to her and explain to her. Endup, she was so angryand said to my helper
Senior around this ages usually was bilingual because of our education system, knew how to manage basic SMS and tech appliances with some practice. Also the government encouraged so there a lot of short courses being initials for them to learns. Most of the course IS FREE or heavily subsided. As for volunteering it depends on individual times and schedule. But heartening to notice nowaday that more senior was willing to spares some times in their own capacity to do volunteering works.
Thanks to Singapore education, those born in the 1950s (the Lee Hsien Loong era), are relatively well educated. Using mobile phone, social media, etc. are part of everyday life. One of the worse things that can happen to one is getting this attitude like what you have described, Surely this is a way of losing respect from others.
between year 2002~2012 I was a computer repair man .. many retired customers bought used systems from me in order to learn basic computer usage .. many of them actually signed up computer courses in the Community Centres .. in Singapore .. if need to & yet do not know a person's name .. most of us would use the word brother or sister .. for elders we would use auntie or uncle .. in most of our mind .. if you address me as "ooi" .. that is an insult .. I am not a dog .. and even a for a dog .. you would address him/her as "sweetie" .. "baby" .. 'darling" ..
seriously all the anti-govt and the foreign commentors tt singaporeans had to work til death r simply stocking animosity or self-praise. the truth r majority elder singaporeans r simply keeping the mind/body active n self-worth while giving back to society/earn an income. Thier/Other country is better as old people don't work. imho, working/volunteer is much better than simply gather to dance/exercise which only benefit oneself.
sometime its those small things that make other dont like ppl from China.. its rude to say this but its a fact which the change have to come from them first. there is a saying that if you don't have nice/good thingsto say just don't say anything. something when open and say things that are not nice it bring more negative issue out .. spore senior citizen do have issue with technology like internet, social media and digital payment. its the willingness to learn and also they don't see much use after they learn as they see themselves as old ppl..
lol, these people are self entitled, no awareness that no one owe them nuts. or either they are still daydreaming under feudalism whatever. note that in Singapore even cleaners ,Grab drivers uses apps n digital medias. they r not some lowly or lower class uneducated people, they could be working part timed or retirees . our govt greatly encourage its people to live a healthy lifestyle, get active, get fit n volunteer

I worked in a non-profit and love my retired volunteers.
There are many programmes in Singapore to promote lifelong learning and digitalization for all including seniors and person with disabilities

chatGTP is not working in mainland China.......
James

Beautiful! Wish you all have long and happy life!!!
Thanks for sharing James.
Of course, I am 60+ now, still able to build Website, run Facebook ads😊
Our government gives everyone money to learn. We can learn whatever we want. So our family encouraged the retired parents to spend time to learn how to use all these gadgets.

Beautiful!!! We all need help and support one day. We will all be in that situation. Therefore we need to build our society to be more supportive.
