This was a GREAT MOVIE....GREAT CAST....one of the best biopics ever!!!
yeah sure their was 3 glaring omissions.
1- no mention of the dee barnes incident
    2- no mention of michel'le
3 - didn't go as deep as i wanted them to go with dre leaving ruthless....i was waiting for real mutha fucking g's and never got it.
i agree....i think it couldv'e and should've been at least 3 hours so they couldv'e covered those things.
but even with those things missing i loved this film.....took me back to a better time in hip hop.....those was the golden years......but everybody needs to see this movie.

As a movie it was good n entertaining. As a biopic... It was heavy propaganda and just white washed Dre sooo much.. They wiped out him beating the lady reporter and completely erased Miche'le out.. They showed him all and just in good light..
She was a promising RnB singer and dated Dre back then and they have a son together today. She made a self produced film abt herself and her time with ruthless and was very close with Tupac.. And that one was really good too.. She was being physically abused by Dre and then later by Suge.. Woman survived a Hellstorm and got career taken away.

I just got home from it and I loved it. The raw energy from the music, direction and actors had me jumping in my set. I wanted to get up and dance at points. I do think it got way too sugar coated. I mean they made Dr Dre look like a fucking saint. But it's easily a solid full price if you got any love for rap music or just good filmmaking in general.

I watched it this morning. I thought it started out great. It was involving, surprisingly funny, and very energetic. Then it loses its momentum about an hour in and never really gains it back. However, the movie does have great performances, especially from Jason Mitchell, who I can only describe as a revelation.

From all the reviews that I have read and watched, there is pretty much a large degree of agreement that "Straight Outta Compton" has great acting and an interesting story, and that the film really is a reflection about how little we have progressed in society with respect to race relations - and particularly how the police treats minorities. With all that is interesting about this film, I should be motivated to see it, and normally I would be itching to see a movie about such hefty topics. Unfortunately, rap is such a turn off to me that I almost always get a headache when I try to listen to it, and this film is going to have a lot of it, since it deals with an iconic rap group, I am reluctant to see the film. I know I am going to get a lot of flack for saying this, but it is not just that I dislike rap. I also think that compared to other genres of music, it is the least deserving of respect from a standpoint of talent. Therefore, despite how substantive the message is, and the social awareness that NWA was emphasizing, I would rather not watch the film. I would rather watch a film about other artists, who exist in genres of music that require way more talent, that advocate for social justice.

***** If you think it's the least deserving of respect from a talent standpoint, you really are blind to a lot of what's going on in hip hop right now. Kendrick Lamar is one of the most important and talented artists working today. He crafts his albums like a director, meticulously in control of every detail of his sound. Run the Jewels makes great albums, standing up to anything else coming out, and I listen to virtually all genres. Rappers are more than you think they are. There are people like Chance the Rapper whose albums genre bend. He really uses his voice and an instrument and makes great, melodic music. It's really insulting actually that you think rap takes less talent than any other genre or art. Check your biases. Today's rap is really exciting, diverse, experimental, and progressive.

I did not know that this was ganster rap. And that they came into the community and changed the idea of how black people represents hip hop. It confuses me because I don't see how it advanced blacks in anyway. We are still getting shot harraressed and babies dieing and children still failing in school and for me this looks like a fantasy world we will never arrive to. It looks better on screen then it does on the streets.

Crystal Ingram REALLY.... NWA represented inner city gang life. Public enemy represented Fighting the system. KRS-1 represented Black history /hip hop /knowledge of self . All these guys and group had a different view on whats was and still is pledging us today. They made songs about our situation on many occasion along with backing each other. They made collaboration on topics that was going on . Fast forward it today, Not one rapper today is doing half of what these guy did. Plus today info can be shared faster .These guys didn't have the internet to get the info out . So why hasn't anyone step up and keep up the conscious rap . Most of these guys songs wasn't played on the radio because it was consider inappropriate. Now your hear songs about disrespecting black women and making money. Y'all in need of a NWA not a drake ,little wayne and nikki . No disrespect towards you miss.

Good review, but slamming the actors' headshots a little too much.
Like I've said before, looking forward to Jason Mitchell being nominated best supporting. And you guys have solidified that I think that this could be up for best picture as well, in addition to best director.
Excellent point about the slap. Many people might not have conscioulsy noticed but It was off-beat/ out of place. You feel it but just keep going because the scene is still engaging.Very good catch.

That's probably to avoid TH-cam sticking them with a bullshit copyright claim. Altering the video tends to keep the bots off your ass.

Most amazing movie I have seen. I'd been waiting 6 months for its release and was not disapointed at all well apart from the fact that I was looking forward to 'Real Motheephukkin G's' being played but it wasnt. The theater was absolutely packed which I havent seen for a long time but it made the experience that much better xo

Movie was good, but could have been better and longer. Should have made it 2 1/2 hours long. They left out Eazy-E diss record towards Dre and Death Row as well as Dre and Snoop diss towards E.
This movie was mostly about Dre.
    7.5/10
