Ezran never had a plan. That adviser guy and the prince made a plan with Viren to force Ezran to step down with a threat of war. Katolis wouldn't be attacked as long as Ezran abdicated and took Viren's place in the cell. Viren taking the crown was never discussed with Ezran. Viren auto corrected to Virgin while I was writing this.
Can I just point the fact that Zym is eventually going to be able to talk? Seriously, both his parents can, (spoiler I guess) there's no way in heck that Zym isn't going to be able to talk. I realized that the other day and was thoroughly shook'eth. Our little baby will speak one day and it's going to be so weird!

My take on the "Why is Ezran in jail?" thing: he abdicated the throne so as to placate the prince that threatened war, Viren gets released because of shady backroom dealings that lead to him taking the crown, Ezran is put in jail so he can't try to take BACK the crown.
Plus when Ezran insisted that those who no longer wish to fight be allowed to leave the army he was probably hoping that most of the troops would leave, thus the army wouldn't have the numbers to attack Xadia any more.
When Aaravos said he didn't know where he was imprisoned and Ethan mentioned the cube, I got SO excited because I've been thinking that ever since we met Aaravos.
I still think Ezran surrendered as basically his options were: 1) Join the war on Xadia 2) have a bloody war with the other human kingdoms 3) surrender and let those idiots put someone else in charge more sympathetic to the Xadia war (Viren) Kind of a lose/lose/lose situation but he picked what he hoped would prevent all those innocents dying from the first two options.

I believe Viren was sincerely loyal to Harrow in their earlier years. He cared for Sarai as much as he did for the King. But things change, and without Harrow, Viren now sees himself as the kingdom's hope.
Agreed. Viren got completely consumed by the dark magic and his own ego and arrogance. He convinced himself that everything he's doing is for the right reasons. He definitely doesn't see himself as the bad guy... at least not yet. It's such a shame... I believe his friendship with Harrow really was genuine and deep. And he really did care about the well-being of the kingdom and its people in the beginning...

I suspect Soren has been asked to smuggle a lot of weird dark magic shit across that bridge for his dad and sister and at this point the guards just shrug. Like, it's probably stuff for the High Mage. He's doing kingdom-protecting shit, why get in the way?
Or they knew Ezran and Bait were in there, they were probably part of the guards who later left the army, so they're just helping out and pretending not to notice anything
The thing about Ezran and Viren also confused me at first but I later understood it. Ezran only had three choices: stay as a king who chose peace and face a war with the other kingdoms, choose to go to war against xadia with the other kingdoms, or step down from being a king and prevent a conflict between katolis and the angry people. The thing about Viren becoming the king was becaue of that advisor's guy meddling, and everyone was too scared to go against him. I might have missed a few points but that's basically what I got from the whole conflict

I feel like it was more showing how unready he really was to take up the position as king, without his brother by his side. Because Ezran is so kind hearted he is unwilling to defend even the thing he believes in, which is to make peace with Xadia, he doesn't want to fight despite it being what is needed. The fight was going to happen no matter what he only delayed the inevitable confrontation. He is still a kid, and willing to say he won't fight Xadia, until he is forced by threats of others to yield, he deeply cares about his people, but he doesn't yet understand that it is his duty to keep his people safe and sometimes it may seem counter-intutive that fighting is the only way to keep peace, but it is fighting in the short term for the long term peace, and he is unwilling to ask others to give their lives up in war. He lacks that maturity to understand when you need to make a stand and see things through to the end. It is his short-sighted kindness that holds him back, just like Viren's biggest character flaw is his short-sighted desire for power and violence. Ezran is a character that can change for the better, to understand that at times we don't have a perfect choice but that we need to be willing to see things through.

He's responsible for a lot of human lives, and he was told the other armies wouldn't kill those people in war if he stepped down, so he forced through what protections he could (allowing unwilling soldiers to leave the army and not be forced to make war) and complied. It was a really weird/unbelivable way to get Viren to be king, it could've been done better. They literally arrested him for killing a bunch of guards. Unless Opeli didn't tell anyone about that (which would make no sense) I don't understand why no one objected to him being king.
My working theory for how Dark Magic spells were originally discovered is that Aaravos invented them. Since spells seem related to the properties of what's used, it was probably less trial and error and more philosophical rumination.

ethan your big brain energy! i never connected callum's magic box - which is called THE KEY OF AARAVOS - with aaravos's secret prison. though, if it is the key to his prison, it seems like a really easy way to unlock it; all you'd need to do is get a magic plant or creature for each source so each of the symbols glows, i assume, and that seems like a pretty easy thing to do in xadia.
It is the nature of Royalty, when one line ends, you lock up the survivors from that line so that they don't attempt to re-take the throne. That is why Ezran had to be locked up
Actually, the whole ezran and viren thing is basically this. The guy came to Ezzy boy and said either you join with us, fight or give up the throne. ezran chooses the latter. Then viren is also part of the deal and he is made king due to being the ex-kings closest advisor since ezran abdicated the throne. Edit: I don’t usually say this but like so Miclaila sees it.

Because if they did then imma have to say they smallbrain. I mean, even if Viren's plan (which basically consisted of him walking up to the throne and sitting down) didn't work then the other countries could have just threatened war again and had him made king that way

ethan your big brain energy! i never connected callum's magic box - which is called THE KEY OF AARAVOS - with aaravos's secret prison. though, if it is the key to his prison, it seems like a really easy way to unlock it; all you'd need to do is get a magic plant or creature for each source so each of the symbols glows, i assume, and that seems like a pretty easy thing to do in xadia.

It is the nature of Royalty, when one line ends, you lock up the survivors from that line so that they don't attempt to re-take the throne. That is why Ezran had to be locked up
Actually, the whole ezran and viren thing is basically this.
The guy came to Ezzy boy and said either you join with us, fight or give up the throne.
ezran chooses the latter.
Then viren is also part of the deal and he is made king due to being the ex-kings closest advisor since ezran abdicated the throne.
