There is a reason for everything. The concorde was a supersong aircraft making it hard to maintain and even buy. Unfortunately the fate of many an iconic airliner... Arguably the most famous jetliner and the very first Pan Am 707, "the one," the model, specific plane and airline that "started it all" (really) opening the world to "modern" air travel,...after an illustrious career in the late 50s through 60s with the airline, had a couple different secondary ownerships in the 70s and was unceremoniously scrapped in the early 80s. One of if not the last of the Lufthansa 707s was left for decades, virtually forgotten, to fade away at the edge of the tarmac on a defunct airport in Germany until a couple years ago hauled away for scrap. Similarly, the last United 747, the final flight of which was ceremoniously made from the mainland US to Hawaii, was then immediately stored in the desert in 2017 and sold for scrap a few years later. If it's true that, as many pilots insist, planes are "alive and have a soul," the sadder yet the fate of these. It's a well-known fact that any of these type aircraft are very expensive to maintain properly even in non-flying/museum status...Even so, you would think that Gates / Buffett-type-moneyed aviation geeks would come to the rescue on a couple of these! And, this is all a solemn reminder that it's first and foremost a business, and an unsentimental one at that, even if airline enthusiasts may be.
Unfortunately from this video it looks like they restored her only to display her outside. Looks like the mounting brackets for the landing gear were placed on an outdoor concrete pad. If that is the case, then it will only be a few years before this one is in disrepair again.
