Ah yes, Anneke van Giersbergen in her original band. I also really love her performances with the Devin Townsend Project, Ayreon and solo as well. Glad you liked it. I was grinning when you noticed the "unofficial video" in the title of the video, so no wha-wha-wha this time. This concert was their 25th anniverary show and had all previous and current members performing several songs. Unfortunately, only the audio has been officially released, so these unofficial videos were put together by dedicated fans that gathered all the phone footage they could find. I thank them from the bottom.of my heart for that.

I love it when Anneke does it again! The original inspiration of great singers like Floor Jansen and Simone Simons. She paved the way. She was already amazing on Pinkpop in 1996 but she still blows your mind away today. Right now on an epic tour with Marco Hietala from Nightwish through South America. They take down the airport when she lands 😅. Some suggestions: The Gentle Storm with "Storm" the official live video. The Gentle Storm with "Brightest light" live in Zoetermeer In this band Arjen Lucassen from Ayreon was heavily involved. It is not to be missed. Anneke van Giersbergen " take me home" the official music video ( not live) or "Hurricane" More recent stuff from her. More poppy. She is a fabulous singer. Of course it helps that she surpassed Marylin Monroe as being the most gorgious woman on this planet, and absolutely remaining funny and humble. Her interaction with the public is mindblowing. I saw a concert where she gets 4 wedding proposals before she can even start her song. She handles that brilliantly, with so much humor, laughing with the crowd. Her stage presence is intimate, closing the gap between stage and audience. Getting everyone's attention and focus. People forget everything. They are virtually with her on that podium like they are on her birthday party. It helps of course when you have that lifelong experience. I love her. The metal grandmother of the Dutch metal Goddesses. I saw her live a couple of weeks ago with Ayreon in the Netherlands. I had a complete meltdown. They are still scrabbing me from the floor. 😅

Definitely Travel from the TG25 show. P.s. there are some "Monsters of Rock" versions of this (On Most surfaces) song, where Anneke also plays the guitar with her band Vuur. The TG25 are generally the best versions though

Annekeeeeee! ❤ I’ve met her live once, and I must say she’s the most charming person ever. This positive energy can be clearly seen on stage. I know you always try to be honest and you’re a prof musician which makes your reviews almost unique 😅 So it’s super exciting when you say good things about my favourite band. In case of The Gathering I think the most important thing is that they’ve got the certain mood, groovy but melancholic with some ambient feel. I actually appreciate their harmonic simplicity which allows listener to float in the sound so to speak.
This performance amongst so many others makes me wish I had a "strange machine" so I could go back in time and try to be there in that crowd! just superb from start to finish, I am glad you got to see and hear it for your review. I was never good at Maths but I'd still give it 11/10!

One of my favorite Gathering songs. One of my favorite female vocalists. Although Annekke is the "Godmother of Dutch Metal Queens" still with powerful pipes, she is also amazing at singing ballads just with an acoustic guitar without any other accompaniment.

It is ther 25 anniversary concert in my hometown. And I was under a stone. Anneke was not part of the band here, but you can't tell. There must be something in the water in the Netherlands. O my... David you just witnessed Anneke... that is something special :) and with the gathering... even more special. Got to meet her once and she has that energy you cannot ignore, she is soooo nice in a very natural way. Besides out of the world talent, charisma, niceness and "badasses" combined, she just has that thing that mesmorizes you and gets you to her world. There have been some really great Dutch bands from Shocking Blue in the 60s through Focus and Golden Earring in the early 70s all the way through to bands like The Gathering and Ayreon but the Dutch music scene tends to be completely overlooked - certainly outside Europe ( mainly because people don't realise that these , and many other great bands actually come from Holland )
Anneke is one of the best and The Gathering definitely one of my fave’s, just saw her live solo and next time will be in July when she’s opening for Floor
Nice reaction. I think Anneke van Giersbergen (The singer) is one the best singers in Metal/Rock right now. I still think her greatest work was with the Gathering, though. Her solo stuff is not really metal, and her band Vuur has only released one album in 2017. Her collabs with Ayreon and Devin Townsend are awesome though. Nice to note the Anneke was an inspiration to many female metal singers, like Floor Jansen (Nightwish) and Simone Simmons (Epica) and also inspired Cammie Beverly (Oceans of Slumber).

I still remember when I saw them for the first time on their Mandylion-tour at the end of 1995 after the release of their first album with Anneke on vocals, which was also my favourite album in that year. Anneke really is a great live performer and also super-nice when you meet her in person! After she had left the band, I've also seen her live solo, as part of The Sirens, with the Gentle Strom project and her own band Vuur. One of my favourite live clips by the Gathering is the version of "Rescue Me" from their "A Sound Relief"-DVD: th-cam.com/video/VrxKcdusqyY/w-d-xo.html (the entire DVD is worth watching, though) This song features an instrument not often seen and heard, especially not in metal, namely a theremin (Avatarium's original keyboarder also played it occasionally) and I love how it is incorparated in this song.

You also find a clip without the Spanish subtitles (the reason why the one with Spanish subtitles has already more than a million views is probably the fact that The Gathering are very popular in South America, especially Chile I think) and clips with the entire concert. "On Most Surfaces" is more of a fan-favorite than an example of a typical song by The Gathering. It IS a great song, to me though.
