    as someone who's gone through the strict parent experience, talking maturely was not an option and what worked for me was just simply growing up, becoming my own person making my own decisions and I had begun blocking out my parents from the decisions in my life, time and especially body. so boundaries and distance was the solution when it felt like any conflict might have permanently damaged our relationship

      Reading your comment felt like a weird out of body experience. I’ve had strict parents too, and we were really close; but last year I’ve started to feel like growing quite distant from them and we have quite a conflictuel relationship nowadays. We are trying to find solutions and trying to talk about it but reading about people having that same experience made me feel better somehow. Thanks !

    I was in a toxic relationship for 3 years, when it ended I thought my life crumbled (even though the relationship was mutually abusive). I learnt a lot from that relationship, and swore I’ll be better and never act like that again. So when I met my current partner, I tried to be a better communicator and learnt to love and care for someone (and myself) unconditionally. We’ve been married for a year now and everyone tells us we are the happiest couple. If you just came out of a relationship, don’t give up, something better will come for you:)

      @@meemeelipota hi I was in a lot of grief at first, there was a lot going on like moving his stuff out, so it was more burden than relief. Once I recovered from the situation, I recognized how much I wanted the breakup and asked myself why it took so long to happen.

      @@patronofthearts9343 sorry to keep this going it’s ok if you don’t respond I have a question too. If you ended the relationship ship what finally clicked in your head? I have a friend who’s I’ve a toxic and abusive relationship and they just “celebrated” their 3 year anniversary. Our close circle of friends have seen her brake down multiple times over their breakups and get back togethers. She’s told us she doesn’t love him anymore but she doesn’t know how to live without him... idk sorry lmao we just don’t know what else we can do for her seeing her so hurt

    • @patronofthearts9343
      @patronofthearts9343 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Kiwikick238 I have friends who are in similar situations, but there is little you can do other than being there for them when they need you (because I can tell you are a good friend). I can’t speak for her, but I can speak from my own experience, hopefully it could provide some insight.
      Sometimes our perspective gets warped when in an unhealthy relationship long term, for example, when things are difficult, it becomes “a testament for true love”, or romanticize it, like “misunderstood love”. When others objected or criticized the relationship, it made me want to revert to the familiar (the relationship/partner), and would make up excuses for the relationship to try to justify the bond, almost like Stockholm syndrome. What your friend describes sounds like separation anxiety, it’s very scary leaving what you regard as a source of love and care and comfort for 3 years, even if others disagree. Once you lose your perspective, it’s easy imagine dealing with the current unhappiness (familiar), than dealing with the uncertainty, sadness and loneliness which could be long term. I felt it in so many ways, such as the fear of heartbreak, the stress of moving him out, the frustration of searching and dating…I would rather face the arguments every other day, than the doomed prospect that I imagined.
      The thing is heart break is temporary, the feeling of independence is freeing, and falling in love again is beautiful. To answer your first question, everything clicked but only after it was over, my view was so clouded and probably so is hers. Considering she has a group of amazing friends like you, she sure is worthy of being loved by someone better. She just have to see it, and none of us can make her.

The moments leading up to meeting someone new or starting a conversation can make you feel like ur at the top of the board getting ready to jump, but once you do it you feel great. He was really emotionally intelligent but not emotionally available especially as I needed more connection. I’m glad Andrew is working on it :-) it requires a lot of unlearning and therapy.

    in my last relationship, my boyfriend was constantly talking about how we never fought or argued or had disagreements. and in my head, that was a good thing. but i’m now realizing that when i think of arguing with your partner, the only thing i can picture is what i grew up around. my parents have never been able to have a calm argument or disagreement. it’s either they hold in all of their feelings, or it turns into a gigantic, loud, overwhelming screaming match where nothing is resolved. and so when he would say that it was upsetting or weird to him that we never did these things, i was confused. i would think to myself “why would you want us to go through that?” but now i understand that arguments and disagreements and talking about your feelings is normal, and can be done in a healthy way. but MY reaction and the way i express myself is a result of how my parents have always treated each other. he never grew up around that, so to him, he just meant that he wanted me to express myself more and be open and honest with him, not just pretend everything is okay so i don’t “cause issues”. it made me realize i really need to change the way i handle and view conflict with others. because conflict and being open about things that bother you is necessary for a healthy relationship. it’s hard but i hope one day i can learn how to properly communicate instead of either being completely silent or completely exploding at the other person.

    • @vanifarron
      @vanifarron 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah same here. I realized that in my last relationship. I entirely avoided setting boundaries or arguing about anything, because I was so afraid of us ever exploding like how my parents did growing up. But in the end, keeping silent is what made things turn wrong. Like the banana man once said, "It's there's an instruction manual on how to talk to people, and everyone has it except me." We both didn't have good role models growing up, so it is difficult to communicate. So it's also up to us to figure out how to break the cycle of toxicity and work towards healthy relationships. ^^

    Okay BUT I have adhd too and accidentally interrupting people + oversharing is a def thing with the condition. It's unfortunate because people think we're being rude but we're just excited and can love someone so much we can't help but explode with our feelings and excitement.
