I backed the 2nd Death may Die crowdfunding because I almost finished all missions on Season1/2 (2 three missions missing at that time), now Season 3/4 arrived. I do not back Season 5/6 because I didnt played any mission of Season 3/4. I wait for the retail version that will come out in my language as well as the others seasons, costs a little bit more but at that time I am ready for it (or not, and then I dont buy).
Thanks for your thoughts! I decided to jump in this season , not owning any of the previous content. I figured if i dont like it I'll be able to resell at cost thanks to the stretch goals. Plus, i dig all the exotic minis from this season. However, I totally agree on the unwildiness of a Cmon game with stretch goals, its just too much stuff, too many boxes to open for a single game if wanting to mix n match. I do enjoy Cmon's content though, but 1 game of each franchise shall suffice.

thats the most sane take to have. i have realized on not that sane though at times.
I purchased seasons 1,2,3 & 4 from retail. I do not feel I am missing out on the exclusive content. I also paid less and had free shipping with my most expensive box being $84. How much do I play? At least twice per month. I play with my newphews when they stay over my house. I also feel like it is a good game for non-gamers. This is one of my "comfort games" in that I can play without looking at the rule book and I feel like it is easy to teach. If I feel like purchasing S5 and S6 I will again wait two years and more likely than not get it first. I am interested to see the campaign mode but I am not willing to crowdfund. A point on Godzilla, they have a smaller version for $25 but I do not care because If they were going to do something they should have have had at least an episode box where it was minature Cthulhu vs miniature Godzilla.
i know its kinda a lost cause convincing hoarders that board games are 10x more expensive than they should be but yeah. the prices of board games are such a joke
Agree with your comments, it's also interesting to hear the underlying issue here as well. The fomo will never end as long as customers are buying into it, and the customers won't stop buying until the seller quits selling, it's a vicious cycle and when you're in too deep it's a long tunnel out.
So I've sort of done the numbers. If you have EVERYTHING from before this campaign, it would take about 50-ish times as long (to play all combinations) as it would take for the sun to explode.
okay maybe, but like i honestly dont feel like I would bother including investigators mixed up with the combo. Elders x scenarios? for sure, and can play vastly different. But 3/4 of the invesitgators arent going to play that much differently from each other, you get more variability with what you draw from cards imo.
@@harmarize hmm fair enough, but I feel like I at least wanna see different investigators and combinations between them, so I wanted to include them since the challenge also sort of matters. I think most episodes also play the same though... It doesn't make much of a difference whether I have to flip and move four jurors or four ball guests mechanically
The investigators are overkill, as they barely change the game, since the bottom two skills are all mix and match from same powers, albeit new expansion adds some new powers. However, more new scenarios and elder gods are a must. This is one of the few games I do play often and many friends enjoy. The game is just so simple and yet very fun. The large variability is what keeps it fresh.
I got Season 1 and 3, and that was more than enough for me. But they got me with Godzilla (the "free" one). The newly revealed Cthugha and the flame creatures are a welcome bonus.
Season 2 didn't come with extra elders only the Kickstarter unspeakable box came with them. I didnt get season 3 or 4 as it didnt look different enough which is why im backing this as for me this is definitely adding a lot more than 3 or 4 did. New investigor abilities, relics, and campaign mode are enough for me to say that its an easy buy.
On the fence on this one myself. Leaning toward just waiting for retail, but I was pretty set on backing when the campaign launched just a few weeks ago. I do love the game and play it fairly regularly. It is a top 5 for me overall. I assume I will feel the same way in 2 years (or whenever it arrives). Have not backed a CDMD campaign yet, so the desire to go back and get the Unspeakable and Unknowable content and not missing out on the Unimaginable content is really what’s making me want to back. But that would be around $400-500 (without shipping) for Season 5, 6, and both of those boxes. However, with all the retail content so far, I’m not even close to needing the extra content. I think the best thing for me to do is not back, continue to play through what I have, save my current $500.00, then, if I feel like I need more content while waiting for Season 5 and 6 to hit retail, I could grab some of the extra Kickstarter stuff somewhere online.
I mean the question you need to ask is whether you can wait a little longer to get the Stretch goals I feel like. If you grow impatient you can always pick up the elder one and season six while waiting though. (that is if the same situation occurs as last time, I feel like everyone just assumes that) At the end of the day, you need to know yourself, but if you want the extra stuff you could potentially save those hundred bucks. But this is from a die hard fan, so...
I think if I was in your position I would for sure back the base pledge or $200 pledge, you get all that content plus stretch goal, but i dont think I would back the previous stretch goal boxes, too much money for the content.
Did you cave? Or resist your FOMO? I caved. The stretch goals just looked too enticing! Already have S1 and S2 (retail). S3 and S4 are on the way from the last kickstarter. Probably WAY more than I'll ever get painted and played, but my FOMO won once again. I did use restraint with Enormity, as I already backed Kingdoms Forlorn (which will be my 1st ITU game). Hopefully, I won't regret that decision.
There were no elder ones in the season 2 box. 2 in the core plus 2 in the unspeakable box, there was also the optional black goat of the woods. My season 3+4 arrived in early November :)
I bought season 1-4. S01 and S02 are already beautifully painted so the game is one level better 🙃. S03-S04 will be painted but it will probably take up to half a year. The thing is, I'm giving up on this campaign, I'll buy it someday when I get bored with what I have (if that happens). FOMO is screaming a little in the back of my head but I'm holding back for now. I only joined a friend's order and bought Scarlet and limited artifacts so this campaign is only a $13 expense for me. It's time to give up.
I‘m gonna back it anyway. Love the game. Always like it when i play even if i loose 5 times in a row. Just need to resort everything and build some sort of insert cause i don’t need and want to store all the investigators. Put them aside and be happy. Rest is top notch. More scenarios and more GOO - give! :) I don‘t think im gonna play the campaign but if its a nice 3-scenario-thing i might aswell. Rasputin and The Kid will even stick to us through season 3 and 4 cause we love them. If we don‘t go random investigators it‘s almost always those 2. :D
So I totally agree with the plethora of content. For someone who already has a fair collection of games and doesn't play DMD WAY more than the others, season five is entirely unnecessary. Season six is worth a pickup once it hits retail, since it's different enough I'd argue. But unless this is the basically the only game you play, you will never need anything more than what's available at retail. Sure, most of the cool stuff is Stretch goals and exclusives I'd say as a Lovecraft enthusiast, but you don't need it. Regarding power creep, as someone who has designed lots and lots of custom characters, I don't think it's an issue at all. The new abilities are just as balanced as the old ones, even sometimes a little weaker I'd argue. It just creates new potential for synergies between unique abilities and these. (also already having played FotU, I'd say your old stuff is just as valuable as it was before, maybe even more since you can play it with the new stuff now)
Love season 1 and 2. Backed Fear of the Unknown all in, minus Cthulhu. Decided to only back the core of this one (with Scarlet added on). The shipping price is very low considering. And I’ll look to pick up season 6 at retail. A few extra cards aren’t worth the price spike in shipping
หลายเดือนก่อน
Agreed. looking at what exclusives 6 has is for sure retail
Would you back anything on the current campaign, if you don’t own any Death May Die content at all, and want to dive in? What is the best content for someone starting fresh?
Start anywhere. It's all super good! I just got seasons 3 and 4 and have been really impressed. Of course, the first 2 seasons are amazing. The first season is really good. Two of my favorite episodes from the first season are in the unspeakable box, but they are all really good.
If only I would have watched this two hours earlier…it’s fine, everything is fine. It’s my fav of all time, why don’t I need 8 big boxes on the shelf that I may never get all painted nor all played…worth it
Only if you really really really want to get into CDMD because you want the miniatures or the game. Else it is a bad idea to get into a 900€ game at its third campaign, especially if the game is just a silly simple dice chucking game. And if you only want to play the game a bit, then better stick to S1 and S3.

getting retail of 3 & 4 that might wet the appetite now as opposed to waiting 2 years to find out
Bought two small games in last 2years, and backed ome kickstarter (expansion for guards of atlantis that we play A LOT). Never been happier, still got 500+ games from last 10years of madness but i have more cash for other stuff and feel good every time i sell something i bought but never playwd, which is probably like 70% of my collection
Your arguments against backing it are legitimate but I backed it anyways. Not going to lie, I did spend a few seconds thinking about that large Godzilla. On the other hand, the combination of R'lyeh Rising and Godzilla epitomizes some of the worst aspects of the hobby. It's an excess within the hobby costing over $400 plus S/H for two giant chunks of plastic. Are the people who buy those large items the mobile gaming whale equivalents?
They throw all sorts of modules in your box and expect you to balance the game yourself. That's a real problem. I want a 'designed' game experience for my money
I overspent in the all in DC United, probably won't spend anything on entertainment for myself the next couple of years. I think it'll be worth it as I'm having a lot of fun with the only 3 retail available Marvel United S2 and S3 content I've gotten so far, but I'm easing myself in not having participated in some other cool products like this.
Imo, you can't have ''too many'' variability with episodes and scenarios (investigators is not variability enough in my mind, more like a difficulty parameter depending how bad you group is). The problem is that I don't like paying for all the plastic. I don't need a 100 investigator100 monster sculpts when we can reuse the minis from season 1 with just different stats. At this point, the non stand alone seasons could really just be episodes and elder gods, but CMON is banking on miniature painters
I give them $100. I will buy what I can find in retail next year. If down the road I like it that much I will give them more money before the final closing of the pledge manager
I own the retail CDMD. I didn't back any other season. I am backing this one but only the $100 plus the $25 godzilla because I really want godzilla lol. I definitely don't want or need the big one.
reasons not to back: - already too much content after S1-S4 - too many boxes, it takes so much storage space - way too expensive: 900€ for a silly simple dice chucking game (not counting bigatures)
