I moved to Bowen this year and I must say, this description is pretty spot on. I still reckon it's pretty underrated. If you fish, spearfish, play golf or do hard drugs, it's paradise.
*I'm 10 and I lived in Bowen for 3 months. Not bad. There is lots of playground areas, an IGA at Williams St., and a good Lott and some cool murals on sides of streets.*
I worked on all Whitsunday islands for years but I often took my breaks in Bowen. At least Bowen has beautiful easily accessible beaches unlike Airlie( so called) Beach. Also easy access to the uninhabited islands north of Whitsunday. The big thing though is you aren't paying a fortune in a plastic la la land.
I grew up in Bowen in the 90s, my father was the editor of the newspaper there. If you want interesting stories let me know. You may end up making a Go to Bowen video after hearing them!
Same can be said of anywhere. Without money, everywhere is boring and sucks. With money, anywhere can be a dream. I grew up in Collinsville and Bowen, and after almost 30 years away, I find myself missing the place, even though it has changed so much. Been all over Australia and yet to find a place as lovely as North Qld, and Bowen is one of the pearls of Nth QLD. Townsville used to be good too, but its gone to the dogs. Only place I miss more than Bowen is Singapore. That is another gem of a place.
You forgot the chicken farm and salt flats , but I have a soft spot for drinking beer and watching the sunset eating fresh prawns that Bowen does very well .
Wish you would turn the tv on watch a travel show narrated by you.I livid in Bowen 20 years ago could not wait to leave but like you say there’s something about it just the chill factor keep up the videos mate 👍
Haha so good.. Commercial hotel looks nice... The contrast between the beauty of the coast line and those mines is wild. We really do know how to fuck a place .
let's close all coal mines and all factories and everything producing anything but aroma candles, because economy is based on flying with butterflies and running with rubbits on the green meadows
FMD I have had the misfortune of staying in two of your towns in overnight stays at Pubs. Charters Towers and this bastard. Only cause I had a flat tyre.
No one talks about the sandflies which send you mad .Every day at evening and morning the little spots of demon hell attack relentlessly. Only those being paid double time, and even then splashed with industrial strength insect repellent, goes outside. As for the adventure, well I failed to find any in the three years I visited. I didn't have a boat and I don't fish. I used to sit inside before the airconditioner to read. A slow restfull life in Bowen was passed too slow to contemplate now. Well away and staying away.
Thanks Mick! Sorry about the delay - I'm travelling at the moment and currently working on two new videos, a doco for the main channel and another don't go to. Should have one of them out within a week!
Pretty good video, Bowen is one of those places where it could’ve been something like apparently at one point it was supposed to be the capital for Queensland before that was given to Brisbane but apart from the beaches which are really nice btw, like you said, it’s kinda just really boring outside of doing meth and other hard drugs. At least for people from the Whitsundays it’s got the cinema and KFC which is the only reason why any of us locals even make the trip up there but I fear, that time might be up soon with KFC opening soon in Cannonvale
The capital was not only going to maybe, be Bowen. Also on the list was Toowoomba which it actually was for a bit. That's why the first train line was up the range to Toowoomba as it was suppose to be the capital. Also, Redcliffe and Gladstone were prospects. But Ipswich was the actual planned Capital. But it was Brisbane due to the geographical harbour position for boats imports. It was never going to be Bowen.
You lost me at the colonialist bit. Yes, there are wrongs in our history, but you say nothing of the good that has been done or mention that towns in Australia, grew by people who emigrated there, freely or not and loved their home and worked their arses off to make Australia a place where you can freely sit by a beautiful beach and drink a beer

I really enjoy this larrikin viewpoint, it's a side of Australia that speaks volumes, great locations and great camera work.🌏🌏🌏
Stopped and bought a carton from that fancy pub once, three of us demolished it before Cairns, thanks Bowen you are in my holiday photos for ever
6 hours for a carton. Pussies
That is literally staying in the .05 driving range. We do a carton by Townsville

Well said 👍🏽
Well, they are about to launch Australia's first orbit rocket since 1971 from Bowen, so that's interesting.
Literally only came to Bowen for the Bowen cinemas because my town didn’t have one
My home town, left over 25 years ago, it’s nice in so many ways but damn it’s great to get out !
That ruver is now the best off road race in Australia. Check out the Don River Dash.
