It is amazing when you hear it, but when you think about in her view, its just natural that she would just learn the language that she grew up around, its just the fact that its so rare that gets everyone exited, great job

There's a video of her speaking English. Just search "Sharon speaking English and Mandarin" on TH-cam, and it's the first result. Her accent is barely noticeable, but it is there.

@BAIYUE1 They do but they also teach Mandarin as well. I think it's because a lot of people in mainland China speak Mandarin and have their own dialect as well, so it's good to know it, if you're going to do business there. Most foreigners learning Chinese usually do Mandarin as well since it's easier than Cantonese so I guess it's better communication.

@BAIYUE1 I think it might be because more people speak Mandarin than Cantonese, even if someone wants to learn Chinese, Mandarin would be easier for them, writing as well. I'm Cantonese myself, but I feel like I should learn Mandarin or something if I ever want to work in in China and even Hong Kong...

Well, that should not be surprise, if that is truth. In US or Canada or other Western non-Chinese countries, we can see and hear ABC or CBC (and others) can speak fluent English but partial or broken Chinese, if any.

Yeah >.< Why aren't children in Guangdong are taught Cantonese in schools or even english? There was a story of a child being punished for speaking Cantonese at lunch time. This is stupid. The CCP is over doing it. It is equally important to know your native language. I hope Cantonese will continue to thrive. Please everyone! Teach your children Cantonese! COntinue to tradition!

Oh no, that's a big deal. It's hard to speak cantonese. It's much harder to speak accent free cantonese. Sharon does it. She speaks 100% native cantonese. And what's more? She speaks educated cantonese. Not the street kind but one at a high level register. To be frank, she speaks better cantonese than her husband.
