I still love Hong Kong, depsite all these flaws. I dont think white people are that discriminated in HK (maybe the grannies will wave their stick and say stuff about you but thats pretty much it). Even my friends (white) call themselves gweilo. Calling somebody a gweilo is hardly an insult nowadays. But discriminating against indians, blacks...etc is common around here unfortunately.

Being called "Gweilo" is still better than having someone next to you saying "Ching Ching Chung Chung" or making the slant-eye gesture.

Are you talking about those two kids that Ahmed said good morning to? I don't think they even replied to him.
For people who aren't familiar with Cantonese slang, in HK, they call East Indians "ah cha". Because "cha" sounds the same as the "cha" in "cha siu bau" (roast bun pork) , that kid mocked him with it.

People in all countries can be backward, it is ok, as long as the backward people is only a small minorities! e.g. < 10%. Statistically is call normal distribution, i think naturally there is nothing we can do!!
In my opinion, education is the key to eliminate racism!

Funny thing is, lots of oversea second or third generation Hong Kong Chinese have skin color exactly like Filipinas here in Southern California. People can't really tell or even care if you're Chinese, Hong Konger or Filipina. You're just all Asians.

Then tell them that calling him 鬼仔 is wrong and uncultured. Most people don't think of it until you call them on it -- it's very, very easy. At least next time they may try hiding their racism rather than appearing like bigots. :P

@ChuppahCrunch, the fact that they are making a official program about it means people of Hong Kong are starting to be aware that discrimination is bad.

I'm from San Francisco but my mom is from HK and Guangzhou. I can understand Cantonese but when I speak, it is only semifluent but I mix english and cantonese too. I love it back there, the US just isn't for me.
    我是美國人,住在三藩市,我的媽媽是香港及廣州出生。我聼廣東話很好,我說還可以。 如果我想說中文,我說很多 "chinglish." 我想去香港讀書, 住在美國不太玩。

I think most part in this video is over doing it lol. I was born and grew up in Hk, and when i was around 11~13 years old I had an indian friend, and no such problem lol. They should learn chinese when they live in China, just like we chinese all over the world have to learn all kinds of languages.

I agree with you, I think stereotypes will never cease to exist because people tend to think that their stereotypes are accurate. Plus, stereotypes are used as a way to make sense of this confusing world even though they are a major source of disinformation. Perhaps if people start realizing that, they would be able to acknowledge their own stereotypes. Anyways, I second you that humans have a long way to go.

I grew up in the States, but I can also speak Mandarin. In HK I am treated VERY differently depending on whether I speak English or Mandarin. Store clerks are insanely rude if I speak Mandarin. If I start speaking English, immediately they "fall into line" & become nervous. But at least the rudeness stops.
What's ironic is... these same store clerks get crapped on by white westerners who expect them to understand & speak English better than they do. They should know how bad it feels!

If I lived in such a culturally diverse place, I'd be happy for the rest of my life.
