I use to love watching these two guys go at it in submission match...Ken Shamrock as well.... As unfournate as the Chris Benoit situation was he's still my favorite wrestler and one of the best to ever do it!
whenever my friends and I would “wrestle” as kids… the crippler cross face was the move that they actually couldn’t escape and actually made them scream.
Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle heavily inspired my movesets on Smackdown vs Raw when I played. Hope they make the new WWE game similar to the Smackdown vs Raw series. I was the best in the world at that game and I would absolutely destroy people using their moves. It's so fun breaking down a non-technical wrestler limb by limb until you make them tap out.
i really think the submission match is ready for a comeback. it was interesting what kurt was saying about pinfalls and how they are the exciting moments, but if you watch a UFC fight, when someone gets caught in a submission, its almost the same crowd reaction to a pinfall attempt in wrestling with the crowd on the edge, thinking it might be over, and cheering/clapping when they escape or 'kick out'
I was really excited by this match. It was one of the first proper WW(F)E events broadcast properly in the UK non PPV on Ch4. I had been into judo for a while and loved that they did a pure technical match and really enjoyed it.
I was 13 watching this match and me and my 2 brothers freaking LOVED it. It’s weird hearing people say anything but great things about it. I always wondered why they didn’t do more submission matches in general or like this exactly. I guess now I have my answer but honestly it’s a shame because this match was great imo
@@thivankawijesooriya3088 Yea I heard that even though he is blacklisted from the company Regal actually has some of the nxt alumni watch him against Benoit at the Brian Pillman memorial show to study on chain wrestling and grappling.
@@thivankawijesooriya3088 A real chain wrestling match a few can do, William regal, Chris jericho, I wanna say Big show because he can chain wrestle, He did this with Kane. And ofcourse Daniel Bryan.
ppl also forget 01 Rock was gone half the year, HHH was injured, Benoit was injured half the year.. In the invasion angle was handled poorly 01 wasn’t a good year as a whole after WM17 it was bad for the most part but yet it was still awesome to watch
The booking really sucked for about a year or so. From the Invasion all the way to the HHH/Hogan/Taker WWE Title fiasco. When they did the brand split, it picked up a little bit. SmackDown was amazing in 2002-2003, but when it came to RAW, it was probably at it's worst point and remained so until around 2004.
@@SealShpeeDaSweggy i can agree 2002 wasn’t a great either until the brand spilt and i agree Stephanie had Smackdown rocking in 2002-03! Brock vs Taker, Kurt vs Benoit, the birth of the Los Guerreros, Rey Mysterio and the short lived rebirth of the cruiserweight division was awesome to! looking back all Raw had to offer was Triple H and Evolution they dropped the ball heavy with Scott Steiner and Goldberg and they ruined the booking for superstars like Kane, RVD, Booker T and the NWO was very poorly handled big part to the firing of Scott Hall.. Raw was bad for a while until around 2004 it picked up some steam with Randy taken off but they dropped the ball again there
I don't care what anyone says, I loved Backlash 2001. The Duchess of Queensberry Match, The Hardcore Championship Match, and of course the Ultimate Submission Match. The Ultimate Submission Match is still one of my favorite matches ever. Even the Last Man Standing Match with Shane and Big Show was a great spectacle. The Main Event was a slog though... That was the only disappointment of the night in my book.
I srsly don't get what people have against Backlash 2001, it's my all-time favourite PPV. Great main event tag match 2nd best Benoit & Angle match Great European title triple threat And a fun Match between Jericho and Regal. I think folks just hate on this ppv cos it directly proceeds Austin's heel turn, I prefer Babyface Austin too, but his heel run wasn't that bad
Benoit vs Angle you just know it was going to be a great match

same, along with kurt angle.
Love his talks bout chris my fav!
Thank God man that Conrad put these together, because unfortunately we'll never get a DVD with Angle and Benoit giving insight to these matcges.
Despite what all went down with Chris Benoit, nobody can deny that he was an incredible performer in the wring

Kurt mentioning Chicago makes me realize we never got Angle vs Punk ever.
The Ultimate Submission match was good but their 2 out of 3 falls match the following month was even better.
whenever it was Kurt vs Benoit i was glued to the screen the only other guys that had me like that were Rvd vs Lynn

Since when has WWE missed the chance to have a countdown and/or scoreboard whenever possible ?
Never apologize for being ahead of your time. Others were inspired by it to do new things and better things.
I actually think it was one of the best chain wrestling matches of all time.
I wouldn't want to see it replicated nowadays though
@@davsavchav Your right. And I don't think anything can come close to the pedigree Benoit and Angle have set even to this day.

@pdc2268 I was on Holiday for that Summerslam, I only watched the highlights years later.
Conrad's Native American hat is moving in the background. Either it's aircon or he's continuously letting off some steamers
Lamo I reckon it’s the steamers
Conrad can make an American Standard cry for mercy so it's definitely the steamers.
If I had time machine I would prevent Chris to do what he did
Wanna see two lions go at it to the death. Just watch Kurt Angle vs Chris Benoit. Jesus.
Steve turning heel for sure would have changed things

Dang Conrad you just don’t fit with Kurt Angle as a Guest Host. You are a better fit with J.R. And Bischoff.
