    This is not a sales pitch? Dude, I've been waiting for this my entire reptile keeping life.... IDC if I have to buy all new fixtures, bulbs I don't care. This is such a game changer that I've been waiting for the lighting industry to take hold of. And I knew it was going to be arcadia. Brilliant. Well done. Bravo. Cannot wait to make the change for our whole collection. So stoked about this. These are the things that make me excited to be a reptile keeper. These are the things that get me excited about our futures as reptile keepers.

    I've been trying to figure out a dawn/ dusk period for my lighting for years, and my wall has been that I'm not a coder and I kept running into needing to write a (maybe simple) custom thing to control my lighting. And then JCS walks in and has a product that does this. Like a boss. So give it another decade, and controllable uvb lighting will be part of the new standard care. This is the best time to be a new reptile keeper, the tech available really helps flatten a very step learning curve. Even the fairly clunky system I have now of layered sensors and timers and heating and humidity and lighting is dramatically more advanced than it was in the 2000's. Reptile keeping wouldn't have been accessible to me without the layered tech I have. But I've been bothered the gaps I have in care because I can't diy custom systems. It seems like the learning curve for that is straight up. So I'm forced to rely on commercial products, and arcadia's lighting seems to consistently be the best lighting commercially available. Also JCS not releasing a just "good enough product" and waiting to have a product that meets his exacting standards is what makes him a trusted expert.

    Honestly, the only way I think this launch could be better is if Arcadia offered some type of trade-in on your old Arcadia lamps. I will plan to resell mine as I upgrade my enclosures to the Lumenize and hopefully another keeper will find good use in the lamps that I have been using. However, I will feel a little bad that I will be upgrading my own animals to what I believe to be the new standard and selling my old tech to somebody who’s own animals will be in the last generation of husbandry lol

      Everyone starts somewhere. One might just be learning and getting more into the lighting of their reptiles and they are trying to improve but don’t quite have the money for something like the LumenIZE Therefore you’d be helping with their cost and bridging the gap until they have the money and are able to progress further in their reptile keeping 😊

      @AnimalsatHomePodcast I have learned to think of the reptile brain was a less extreme, better at automatic response and autistic, compared to people. That is most likely due to the smooth brain and not wanting to loss information, unlike a cat, that needs to be thought and unlearn as a survival thing. So, the reptile brain is equipped to handle what it needs to, but not able to learn truely new things easily. Like a autistic child would have the same problem

    Touching on ferguson zones and those zones being an average from across the whole day, wouldn't dimming then reduce the average UVI levels? If we were to truly replicate nature, wouldn't the UVI would be going up into double digits for some reptiles by midday?

    • @AnimalsatHomePodcast
      @AnimalsatHomePodcast  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is a good question. In my experience thus far, I think the answer is technically yes, but practically no.
      Technically dimming, the UV will reduce the UVI average throughout the day. But in practicality, only to a minimal extent. Let’s say I bookend my daily UV cycle with a 30 minute ramp on and ramp off period, this means there’s only 60 minutes of the day where the UV is not operating at full strength. However, even within that 30 minutes, there still will be UV production as the bulb is either increasing or decreasing depending on if it’s dusk or dawn.
      If someone was really worried about this, they could program the ramp on to start 30 minutes before they want their bulbs at full strength, and ramp off to end 30 minutes after they want their bulbs off (of course 30 minutes is just an example, the dimming up and down could be set to any time interval).

    Can anyone recommend a uv meter that works actually and doesn't cost a cazy amount of cash? I would like the ability to measure different areas in my enclosure build I'm working on, I have also chosen to use lumenize in this build and they should arrive in the next few days. I have wanted to do what these lights can achieve since I build my first enclosure but never thought it was going to be this convenient haha

    🤔 this looks very interesting…. Like the ‘bright light’ rise-to-wake alarm clock… I sleep through ALL sound alarms, & my sister got it for me from Amazon as a joke, but it actually is the best alarm I’ve ever had!)
    (Just an fyi, & I have NO IDEA where it relates on the spectrum, but an interesting & very REAL observation is that the literal ‘LED BLACK LIGHT’ mini lightbulb they sell at pet smart for the low profile ‘Creatures’ light fixture (specifically, the ones used to make scorpions glow) - & and it absolutely DISTURBS my Alligator Snapping Turtles- they act like they are roasting in a 200 degeee spotlight, but it obviously doesn’t produce ANY heat….🤔 I can’t figure out WHAT it is, but I then tried putting a ‘standard’ black-light party bulb on them, so see if they would still freak out, & they DID!!! (They act frantic, like they are trying to frantically escape their tank, & i’ve never seen them ever do that)…. & the SAME thing from my COMMON snapping turtle!!!

    Someone should test the ramp up and down feature with different strength bulbs. Measuring the UVI with a solameter at the different time intervals to see what the UVI indexes are in between the times where the UBV is at full power. Dont know if that makes sense.
    Like someone said in another comment. In nature depending on the environment the UV index could go up to the double digits during the midday. So for crepuscular species the recommended shadedweller techincally wouldnt be enough anymore right? Would it be better to use a more powerful bulb to accurate replicate nature? So that way the animal knows what time to safely bask, and what time to seek shelter as the UVI levels rise to undesirable levels, just like they would in nature.
    Someone let me know if this makes sense

    Great talk as always.
    What confuses me is that I was told that there would no longer have manufactures making T5.

    I live in Europe UK to be precise why this? we are facing a T5 ban in 2025 as yet no exception for reptile keeping..do arcadia know something we don't ?

    • @ArcadiaReptile
      @ArcadiaReptile ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that is not true and does not apply to reptile lighting. A full exemption stands that is renewed in the usual course. It is building lighting that cannot be made. If it were true, every hospital, dentist, tanning shop, military, factory production, car manufacture, aircraft flights and more would shut almost overnight. It is untrue.

    1:28:25 I disagree with the fear part, I say let small pox out, I have started to see evolution not as survival, but what we use. When we look at the human brain for us to get more empathy, we need modeling and imagination. So if the animals have no fear, they may start to lose the modeling due to not using it. And this would absolutely mean we could never let them back into the wild. And they absolutely have empathy in the form of a model. But we need to understand this reptile, probably have ego, and when we take ego away, they may find it harder to mate.

    Another marketing pitch from Arcadia? Don't get me wrong, I use many Arcadia products, but after reading the first 100 pages of Mr. Smith's most recent book, it becomes obvious that it's all advertising fluff.

    • @AnimalsatHomePodcast

      There's nothing wrong with marketing, in my opinion. If you are confident in your product's quality, and believe it will be a net-good, why not share it with the world? I spend a ton of time marketing the podcast for the same reason.
