This looks wonderful! I wish I were up in that part of the country. Are they still running? I understand this will be going to Broadway (at least I think I read that), and I wonder when, and if they have a theater set yet.
No it closed halfway through June. No one knows if it's going to Broadway yet. I did see it, and while it was fun to see one of my absolute all time favorite movies on stage, it needs A LOT of retooling if broadway is the goal. I have many reasons why that's case, my biggest being what made the movie so great is nearly all stripped from this show. Its like they changed the theme for no good reason. It can work on stage as a musical, but it's needs more careful though than it was actually given.
Jennifer Hiemstra Thanks so much for your thoughts. It's been quite awhile since I saw the movie, which I loved, so this is a good impetus to find a copy (wonder if it's on Netflix?). I loved the way they made Da Vinci the 'fairy godmother' character, and of course, the importance of Cinderella's character and intelligence taking precedence over that of her beauty. I also liked the ending, vis-à-vis the stepmother and sisters~more satisfying than normally, if I'm remembering correctly. Anyway, I liked what I heard of this score more than I thought I might, simply because I'd never been blown away by songs I've heard (admittedly, not very many) by Goldrich & Heisler. I hope they can make necessary changes and get this in good shape for Broadway (not that Broadway's hurting for another Cinderella musical, particularly).
AvalonMorley Hahaha oh for sure Broadway is certainly not hurting another Cinderella type show, but I'm that crazy person, that has no problem with it because they're so different! But I know others might, but I wouldn't mind :) I think regardless of if it hits Broadway, I know it'll be a licensed show and theaters everywhere will do it, it is fun, and Danielle turned into a dream role even year sago when I hear it would be turned into a musical, it just took some time lol!
