How to Shoot Event RECAP VIDEOS for Brands!

- Here are a few simple tips for videographers when it comes to shooting event recaps! My name is Ben Hagarty, I launched my career filming recaps for events, music videos, brand campaigns, and more. Highlighting events has allowed me to grow my clientele and was one of the most lucrative gigs I could do at the time! My goal with this video is to share my strategy and approach during this past shoot with EA Sports NBA Live at their game launch event.
Also, this video is part of the new series that I will create from time to time on this channel called RUN IT BACK. For each video, I will run it back on a past project or event in my life with the goal of providing some deeper insight into the way I create.

Ben great content. This is a really good way to show how essential planning out the edit is before filming.
Absolutely essential... even if you dont have the luxury to make detailed shotlists, storyboarding, etc... you can still do some prep that will help make your life easier and more prepared
Love hearing the thought process behind the shots that you set out to get and the problem solving you used to get the "entering the building" shots to a more compelling, quicker level. Also with the whip transitions to making the gamers look more interesting than just standing there.

This is sick! How’d you plan out the time to get the drone shots and the ronin shots of them dancing if it was so quick?
Great question! So the artist were performing for only a few songs like I mentioned, I made sure to get the coverage that I knew I would need for my overall edit. Once I had that mental performance shot list checked off, I hauled over the side of the venue where nobody was at and got the drone up quickly to get those shots of them dancing before they finished. Luckily, they continued to dance for awhile longer than they had planned so I could even get more coverage if needed. I got the establishing shots while I was up in the air since I was sitting good on coverage. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching! Great question - to this day, I've always had my go to lenses that I would use for events. A 16-35 and a a 24-70. Now I also will haul with a 70-200 and a bunch of mixed primes but it depends.
Most cases I always end up over packing and only need a few tools to get the job done

A7s2 and a 16-35 + 24-70, ronin M, and a DJI phantom 4 i believe.
I got the drone shot after i shot the footage of the dancers
