Oh man, your followers are great snake owners, with their researching BEFORE buying a snake. I said, "I want a dog." My husband said, "no, but if you really want a pet, you can get something small that has its own cage/tank/some sort of smaller housing of its own, and something that doesn't free roam the house." I said, "Great! We'll go ball python shopping tomorrow then, shall we?" His eyes bugged out of his head because I'm sure he thought I was going to choose a hedgehog or something like that... I researched ball pythons for a total of 8 hours, all night while I should've been sleeping. Brought Noodle home the next day, and I chose her because she was the biggest one I could find.
I’ve already gotten my lemon blast baby girl before this, but will definitely take in account all of these things when I get my next baby. I’d love a dreamsicle and a banana.
I got my first python from the free stuff app, she's actually pretty sweet. I'm glad we got her because it was obvious she wasn't being treated well. That is my fiances python. I bought my own baby python from PetSmart. We tried feeding them outside of their enclosure but it wasn't working. Now we feed them in their enclosures and they are good eaters now

I can attest to ordering snakes for the FIRST time about two weeks ago. I got them from morph market and was so worried about the process. Not seeing them or handling them first. But it was SO easy. So great. And the snakes luckily are perfect. They are live eaters and I’m trying to transition haha but. Honestly. It was the best snake transaction I’ve had in years. Expos are awesome too!!
"If you can rescue a snake, rescue a snake" and that's how I ended up with my ball python Udon ;). Interestingly enough, I'm watching this video almost a month after I've gotten it
Hey Bob-thanks for posting these informative and educational videos. I'm thinking about getting a Ball/Royal, but still doing research. I've seen a lot of videos, read many articles, and have even rented some books from the library, but your videos are the most comprehensive. Quick question though-what is the ideal temperature of the room where you keep your snakes? I think in one of your other videos you mentioned 78 F, but all temperature information seems to pertain to the enclosure itself, not the actual room it is stored in. I'm concerned because I typically keep my place cooler, and I'm worried about negatively impacting the snake. For example, if my thermostat is at 72 F, could that potentially impact the enclosure's inside temperature? Thanks so much!
Hi there! Glad you like the videos. That's a great question. I keep the snake room a little warmer - between 76-78. If the room is 72° you might have a hard time keeping the ambient temps up in the snakes enclosure (depending on your setup).
@@GreenRoomPythons Makes complete sense. If 76-78 works for the snakes then that's what I'll set my thermostat to should I decide to get one. Also, is it okay to use more than one substrate in your enclosure? For example, put one on the warm side and one on the cooler side? Thanks again! I hope to binge watch more of your videos this weekend.

If I'm buying a single snake I pay the asking price, but sometimes I find a collection for sale, and I'm always asking for a deal. Sometimes I get a fantastic buy, and some awesome new friends to play with. Rats , and snakes are addictive. There's always another one that I have to have. Lol. Great hobby to get into has been a big positive change for the whole family.
I got my first snake a few weeks ago from petco, it is a "fancy" ball python which I have determined to be an ivory morph. I saw it on a Friday but didn't buy it until Sunday so I had time to prepare and do more research, so far it seems to be doing great and has eaten 3 times with no problems and even shed one already! I've been calling it Little Buddy because I've been having trouble sexing it and I still don't know whether it is a male or a female
They're not very common. That's a locality of ball python and not many breeders work with them. I saw a 50% Volta on Morph Market the other day but rarely come across them.
Morph market is absolutely amazing. What I personally do is click on the Ball Python category, click of filters, and put my zip code. When you do that, you can look for breeders in your area. I message the breeder and meet with them personally for local pick up. It’s awesome…
I just adopted a beautiful ball python from a reptile rescue. I believe it is a bumblebee morph but not really sure. It is a wonderful snake and I reccomend everyone who is looking for a snake to look at a rescue
I got super lucky with a super pretty corn snake at a pet store and honestly I was super surprised at how much they knew abt him and he was is really good condition and he is my sweet boy now 😊
What morphs do you consider best options health-wise (and maybe activity and feeding-wise)?? I've heard that some morphs have neurological problems or a tendency to die young so...I was wondering which would be my best options, as I'm getting a baby soon
There are only a few morphs that tend to have neurological problems (spider and a few others in the spider complex) but other than that, the morph doesn't effect the health of the snake. Even spiders tend to live a long life - they just have a wobble :-)
@@GreenRoomPythons cool! Tysm! So the only morph I should stay away from if I don't wanna have ANY genetic problems is the spider?? Btw You're such an amazing guy, I keep re-watching your videos like...You're the best!!! ❤❤❤
@@ag6655 aw thanks for the kind words! Glad you like the videos. I would just Google "ball python spider complex" to see what other genes are included. Then just make sure to do any research you need to do to find out if there are potential problems with than gene. Snakeless from South Africa. Hubby is terrified and I just LOVE all animals. So I get my snake "fix" here😅 would love to have a ball python of my own and to teach my 3 yr old son about loving and respecting all creatures
i have been talking up morphs to the manager of the petsense in morristown, tn. they keep getting in better "fancy" ball pythons and they sell really well and at least a couple of the employees have their own reptiles and are honest about what they do and dont know. they just sold a kingpin for $150 that had just come in. they said they are going to order something at their $250 level to replace him. corporate wont let them order more than one regular and one "fancy" at a time though.
Eric the murderer🤦♂️🤣🤣🤣 BTW I bought Ziggy with a breeder of Cal Kings. He's an aberrant cal king 66% het albino. He was born 29june 2020 and I have him since August 24 2020. Best source to buy your snake is with a breeder imo. And here in Belgium I pet stores it's not that bad because here you we have strict laws and there has to be an employee that has to know about the reptiles they sell. Most of the times it are cornsnakes and hognose, and bearded dragons and sometimes ball pythons. But here in big shops they know there stuff most off the time (if not the shop will be closed very fast) and the set up is actually great too. I speak about my local shop. But still I bought mine with a breeder with a very good reputation over the whole world. I bought him with Colubra its in Zulte/Belgium they ship all over the world. I also went to the vet immidiatly to be absolutely sure, and yes he was very healthy, and was indeed a male. I go every year to a vet for a checkup. And this year he went the 4th January and again he's super healthy. Now he's in shed. Also the breeder asked me foto's about the set up. So I was happy about that they don't sell to everyone. And I talked to him alot before I went afther my snake. I paid 130euro for him. I found it an excellent price.
What about ages? It seems a lot of expos have very young snakes. Is that risky? Are babies hardy enough for a beginner? What makes someone choose younger vs older?
If we're talking about ball pythons, the babies are very hearty. I think most people like the idea of raising a snake from a hatchling. Some people just want a big snake to start out with though
I spent two years researching, finding the breed, colours and individuals I wanted. But I just drove 6 hours to pick up a 2yo male for a breeding project later on, that was advertised on MMarket. After a 6 hour drive, I get to a snake that was not advertised sufficiently. This boy has clearly never been handled, he is flighty, bitey and extremely unhappy with life. We start handling training next weekend, followed by target training when he gets his confidence back.
No. There are some cases in a couple genes where their genetics come with neurological problems and if that's bad enough, you may have some different care. The vast majority of morphs just change the paint job of the snake though :-)
does this sound normal to everyone?my snake gets wheezy when shes had a lot of exercise, i kinda use as a sign that she should go back in her enclosure and she usually goes right to get a drink of water.
Just personally, I disagree with the bit about asking questions to breeders. I think they should be open to answering questions whether Im a buyer today or buyer next month. We're always told as potential reptile owner to research and ask questions but theres a ton of different answers out there. I've watched dozens of snake videos and often times people contradict themselves. Even google will say varying info. Its nice to get the perspective of someone who has personal success raising the animal I want to commit to for 20-40 years. That "annoying kid" asking questions might turn out to be a huge buyer 5-10 years later and remember your patient guidance. It gives off an air of gatekeeping for people who want to get into the hobby when you cant make time for those who are keen on doing things the right way. Thats so weird to me in the reptile world. I disagree with dog breeding, but I've never heard of a dog breeder being too busy to answer all questions thrown their way by any one. I can understand walking up and asking for a step by step care guide might be excessive, but.... tbh there's a lot to learn about owning a snake and I wish people would do as much asking as possible before purchasing. If the breeder was truly concerned about homing their snakes in happy homes instead of profit- they should welcome as many questions as possible and if it gets to be too much, to guide them to where they can get that accurate information. Just coming from a perspective snake owner, I know u didn't ask... idk maybe u can change my mind? 🙏😣 (Previous experience is with a snow corn, currently researching hognoses and balls for future purchase.)
I totally agree with everything you're saying and as a small breeder, I personally can answer everyone's questions. These questions aren't usually "how do I care for a snake" - they're more specific questions about that particular animal like size, weight, temperament, and number of meals - often coming from people just dreaming of buying a snake but can't for whatever reason. It's a really common problem with breeders larger than myself. I don't advertise on Morph Market as most other breeders do. But imagine you're even a mid-level breeder and you have 50 snakes advertised. Even if you got one "tire kicker" per snake each day (they usually get more than that), you'll spend a huge part of your day writing emails instead of caring for the animals. Reptile breeders deal with way more animals than a dog or cat breeder and way more customers, meaning tons more "tire kickers"... Again, your points are totally valid and I'm sure most breeders are happy to answer quick husbandry or keeping questions - but unfortunately, the majority of the "tire kicker" questions they spend time on have nothing to do with that.
@@GreenRoomPythons Hahaha, ah icic.. yea I would never ask a breeder about a specific snake's eating habits and details unless I had my rack up and running at home and cash in my pocket. I get how that would waste a breeders time. Well! Ur officially my fav ball python breeder, thanks for being so cool! 🥰👍

Many people say check for mites, but so far you're the first one for me who specified to pay extra attention around the eyes and heat pits. Much appreciate these little, but important details you often put in 👍
When I first started researching I hadn't found this channel yet but I watched Snake Discovery and Emily gave many of the same tips for when buying a snake and checking for the mites around the eyes and heat pits. It was very helpful during my trip to the reptile expo both times in choosing our girls
@@unicorn4676 I watch snake discovery too but apparently haven't seen that video. I'm gonna search for that video too.
Yeah, this was very America specific - and I forgot to talk about the whole category of reptile expos... Glad you enjoyed the video!
I am one that has been watching everyone's videos before I buy my first ball python. Your channel is one of THE best for accurate (and entertaining) information. I appreciate it so much! Will you be breeding and selling?
Thanks so much Amanda! That's a really nice compliment.
Yes, I should have some snakes available in the next few months or so. No eggs on the ground yet, but I'm expecting some soon :-)
@@GreenRoomPythons great! I'm not sure I have a preference in appearance of snakes yet, but I'm excited to follow your journey to see what you get! I would love to support an honest, helpful creator if I am able
@@ajshearer625 thanks Amanda! I appreciate that. I'll start a waiting list once I have a solid idea of when some hatchlings will be available ;-)

@@ajshearer625 awww thanks!
Thanks for mentioning the rescues! I just saw a rescue facility who has open house/educational days where you can also be a volunteer. Might be interesting to do in the future to get more acquainted with the care of snakes irl before purchase 😊
In 8 hours I bet you got way smarter about snakes than you were before!
I did! And I think I've done a pretty decent job being a snake keeper.
@@amybentley1291 I'm sure you have!
Great post. I read it to my wife and we were both cracking up.
I’ve already gotten my lemon blast baby girl before this, but will definitely take in account all of these things when I get my next baby. I’d love a dreamsicle and a banana.
That would be a nice trio of snakes!
I got my first python from the free stuff app, she's actually pretty sweet. I'm glad we got her because it was obvious she wasn't being treated well. That is my fiances python. I bought my own baby python from PetSmart. We tried feeding them outside of their enclosure but it wasn't working. Now we feed them in their enclosures and they are good eaters now
"Watch out for meeee!" 😂
It's a fair warning ;-)
I really enjoyed the snakes on the plane joke 🐍🛩
Thanks! I had to awkwardly work it out on camera 😄
Should do a video on what to look for in good reputable Ball Python breeders
And just talk about that
Idk there was something else but it left lol
But I think could be a good video
That's a good idea!
Dig you're channel and definitely enjoy your content man keep it up. One day maybe Kent will conquer his fear or vice versa lol
Thanks Casey! Glad you're enjoying them... Kent is a tough but to crack, but maybe one day...
I finally understand the origins of Eric the Murderer. 😂😂😂❤️❤️🐍🐍
Yeah he doesn't pop up too often :-)
I can attest to ordering snakes for the FIRST time about two weeks ago.
I got them from morph market and was so worried about the process. Not seeing them or handling them first. But it was SO easy. So great. And the snakes luckily are perfect.
They are live eaters and I’m trying to transition haha but. Honestly. It was the best snake transaction I’ve had in years.
Expos are awesome too!!
You should make a video about expos! I'm going to one next mouth to get my first snake so excited
Aw cool! Congrats on the new snake! I have one expo video, and I'll do another when I go to my next one :-)
"If you can rescue a snake, rescue a snake" and that's how I ended up with my ball python Udon ;). Interestingly enough, I'm watching this video almost a month after I've gotten it
Congrats on the rescue snake!
“-and no vowels.” 🤣🤣🤣

@@VanHelsing34 sure, you could do that but it will probably just get mixed together as the snake moves around
great info. will check into rescues..n I love damra too.great temperament!I'm mailing what I painted for you tomorow...🐍😊🐍🐍🐍

Yes, you can get great deals buying in groups!
I love your videos. tell Kent I said hi.
Bob, Do you have any information about Volta Pythons and also where is the best place to find one. Thanks man, Frank
They're not very common. That's a locality of ball python and not many breeders work with them. I saw a 50% Volta on Morph Market the other day but rarely come across them.
@@GreenRoomPythons Thank You,Frank
Morph market is absolutely amazing. What I personally do is click on the Ball Python category, click of filters, and put my zip code. When you do that, you can look for breeders in your area. I message the breeder and meet with them personally for local pick up. It’s awesome…
I love Kent 😂😂😂😂
He's not the brightest, but at least he's loveable ;-)

I just adopted a beautiful ball python from a reptile rescue. I believe it is a bumblebee morph but not really sure. It is a wonderful snake and I reccomend everyone who is looking for a snake to look at a rescue
Congrats on your new snake!
@@GreenRoomPythons thank you! I had it sitting on my chest for some bonding time while watching your videos. I love them.
i'm a little surprised you would tell kent that there are snakes on planes. he'll never fly again
😉😉
There are wobble issues with spider and hidden gene woma and occasionally a couple others :-)
Eric the Murderer = best stuffed snake name ever. Y'all have a badass day 🤘
Yeah, it's a pretty solid name ;-)
Hey Bob, thanks for the advice! Just one question; where/how can I get my own Eric the Murderer? Will Kent sell him to me?
Eric the murderer🤦♂️🤣🤣🤣
BTW I bought Ziggy with a breeder of Cal Kings.
Congrats on your snake! Agreed, breeders are the best to buy from :-)
What about ages? It seems a lot of expos have very young snakes. Is that risky? Are babies hardy enough for a beginner? What makes someone choose younger vs older?
If we're talking about ball pythons, the babies are very hearty. I think most people like the idea of raising a snake from a hatchling. Some people just want a big snake to start out with though
Do you recommend going to a breeder to pick and meet the snakes?
Sure, if you have a breeder In your area with an open facility that would be a great thing to take advantage of.
Thank you! That is what I thought.
This will be my first snake. Appreciate all your videos .Thank you. Hope you have a great day.
Hello, can you provide a few online breeders that you recommend?
Watch out for meeeeee lmao
I'm guessing he's pretty food agressive ;-)
I spent two years researching, finding the breed, colours and individuals I wanted.
But I just drove 6 hours to pick up a 2yo male for a breeding project later on, that was advertised on MMarket.
After a 6 hour drive, I get to a snake that was not advertised sufficiently. This boy has clearly never been handled, he is flighty, bitey and extremely unhappy with life.
We start handling training next weekend, followed by target training when he gets his confidence back.
Amazon do a great range of stuffed reptile plushies 🙃
They sure do!
Lol snakes on a plane 😂 that line should have been handled by Kent
Do the genetics of a Ball Python have any effect on its care?
No. There are some cases in a couple genes where their genetics come with neurological problems and if that's bad enough, you may have some different care. The vast majority of morphs just change the paint job of the snake though :-)
Lol because that's what we do 😂😂😂
does this sound normal to everyone?my snake gets wheezy when shes had a lot of exercise, i kinda use as a sign that she should go back in her enclosure and she usually goes right to get a drink of water.
Hello how much is a snake sound love one stayed I would love a small one like a teeny tiny one not venomous
I don't know why I'm watching this I already own 12 snakes! Lol 😂
A lot of them from expos!
I'll be off to pick a pretty lady up in like 4 days. I met her once at the shelter where she has been for the past 3 years. I am so nervous...
That's great, Congrats!

Yeah I definitely pay attention to how reptiles are portrayed in TV shows and movies. It's usually completely wrong
eric the murderer sounds a lot like alf... tell me I'm wrong

Been looking into a ball python for years and it seems like there’s waaaay too many breeders in the hobby. So many poor animals always become unwanted. Breeders on youtube seem like a huge problem too. Never really see anyone go against breeders.
