As someone who has had both, CBT really helped me manage the worst of my symptoms and to understand by brain. It gave me a toolbox that really helped a lot. Once I had more stability it was possible to move into depth psych. Depth psychology helps me dig deeper and resolve the underlying issues that led to symptoms in the first place. They are both extremely valuable in my opinion. If you’re in crisis, jungian therapy is not for you (yet) in my opinion. Meds and/or CBT are a good first step if things are really bad and time is of the essence.

So basically Depth Psychology Heals at the root of the neurosis, and CBT treats superficial symptoms of neurosis?

what's wrong with evidence-based though? esp. in social sciences that have a track record in making stuff up

you're right in that there's nothing wrong with it in and of itself but it's not therapy and definitely not a replacement for the real thing, only a supplement

Depth psychology trys to understand a person into context of his or her family , upbringing , surrounding environment and trys to go at the root of the problem ...... Literature also expresses character , human relations and it also helps to understand human psyche..... nowadays psychologists are trying to make psychology a science and demanding objectivity that's why they are reducing psychology but human psyche has far more depth.....

100 seconds in. Cbt therapist would first make you start journaling, what thoughts are triggered by mom's call. That catches your automatic thoughts. Then evaluating how in tune with reality are theese thoughts. Then you evaluate filters and beliefs that shape those thoughts and what emotions theese cause. Then you disput automatic thoughts and if needed, making an behavioural experiment to challenge them. Than you practice gradual exposure. This provides work on every level of issue (including beliefs and interpersonal relationships if needed).

no, it doesn't include the human soul. which is why it is only surface level. Everyone has their own experiences and own calling from the divine.

"An intelligent life is all about such emotional positioning to eliminate the sting of
harm, which as we saw is done by mentally writing off belongings so one does not feel
any pain from losses. The volatility of the world no longer affects you negatively.... .Seen this way, Stoicism is about the domestication, not necessarily the elimination, of
emotions. It is not about turning humans into vegetables. My idea of the modern Stoic
sage is someone who transforms fear into prudence, pain into information, mistakes
into initiation, and desire into undertaking" Nassim Taleb "Antifragility"
What are your thoughts on that kind of view?

    • @JoinAnimus
      @JoinAnimus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      two thoughts:
      1. Stoicism wasn't about the domestication of emotions---that may be what 21st century stoics have adapted the philosophy but that never was a part of its original tenets
      2. unless there's a definite process for domesticating emotions, any claim on its importance will be mostly useless
thanks for the question---I'll talk about this quotation more on the podcast

What do you think about seeing stuff as facts and interpretations and paying attention on facts to be mindful?

You should steel man and not straw man your CBT example, I am not a fan of of the cognitive school but you do it injustice. If you demonstrate a fundamental misunderstanding of cognitive approaches, it doesn’t lend credibility to your description of depth psychology. It reads as bias.
And this feedback is coming from someone who is in graduate school in order to change the field after years of professional experience.

Maybe you are right about this, but every time you belittle CBT (and you do it often in this video) you undermine your own argument by just showing that you are not discussing in good faith. You seem to attack a carricature of CBT with a buffed up form of Depth Therapy, which makes you seem absolutely unreliable.

Depth psychology may be one of the biggest scams in psychology. Luckily, there exists phrenology to take the top spot.
