  • Deux Danses, Opus 73 (1914) I - Guirlandes II - Flammes sombres (3:23) A curious and intoxicating pair. These are studies for the Mysterium; Scriabin was envisioning a dance of all the peoples of the world together, enraptured, enivrated and intoxicated by the swirling sounds. Dark/Somber flames is a theosophical reference.
This performance was created (by human me!) on a digital keyboard (slowly!), then edited (lots!) and mastered in Digital Performer 5.13 (MOTU) using Ivory (Synthogy) sound banks.

Scriabin's ability with sets and synthetic chords set him apart to this day. Kind of the original jazz..

The 2/4 against 6/8 in the second dance is genius.

He did it in Sonata 10 as well. Other composers who have done it earlier includes Szymanowski

Truly awesome MIDI work. Again I am fooled. This is just as good as any live performer.

I am really stunned by Scriabins music AND your ability to reproduce it so beautifully. You must be SUPER accomplished to interpret this difficult music. This is certainly music I can appreciate and simply enjoy. THANK-YOU !

Great stuff man. Currently learning them myself, the 2nd in particular my favourite. Very few pieces I know of hold this kind of weight and summon up such wild and dark thoughts. All the best in what you do :)

thanks man. I listened to Sofronitsky's recording a million times trying to make sense of these two dances. Learned a lot in the process...

Love Sofronitsky :) Tbh though my favourite recording was done by Richter but unfortunately can't find it on here any more :( The second dance makes me think of a ritual or something equally diabolical. And yes the swirling you mention is what I feel, being blown about like smoke :)

Guirlands is pure genius, both programmatically and theoretically. I can literally hear dancers in garlands, swirling around in languid ecstasy and yearning.

Good rendering! But how not recall the genius interpretation of Glenn Gould for these two pieces?

I don't think Gould has ever recorded these piece... If I'm wrong, please share a link

    And suddenly I thought:it is a computer playing....and I was right.

I prefer this computer version over real performers. Never thought I'd ever say that about musical performances, but for this kind of tonal exploration the cold sounds are just more haunting when they are played in such a static manner. Humans turn this into romantic music, which it isn't. Thanks for this work John!

Such a well done midi! If it's possible, can you share the file with me? I want to make a MIDI-visualization version of it then upload to my page. I will provide credit as well, I'd appreciate it!
